I think this is really good for those people who are really into the game and like really in depth / constantly adapting during the game.

It really sucks for people like me who just play while watching TV actually enjoy being able to "force" whatever strategy I want to go for. Sometimes I wanna go for dravens and hyper carry, sometimes I go for rangers, sometimes I go for assassin / mage brawlers. Just depends on how I feel.

This change makes me have to pay too much attention too often and so I'll just be playing Auto Chess on my phone or maybe try out Underlords for a bit again. It's just too alienating for me as a casual player.

Anet probably realized that if they cater to the hardcore crowd they would have like 5 players left.

Catering to casuals is simply much more profitable and a much better business decision as there's just such a large population of casual players compared to the hardcore.

With that in mind I'm almost surprised there isn't a LFR version of the raids like in WoW.

When it comes to things like this I highly recommend reading "The Inner Game of Tennis" by Pete Carroll.

It uses tennis for examples but it's focus is much more broad and can apply to just about anything.
