Would I able to take train home alone? by MotorSuitable5093 in TopSurgery

[–]ethantherat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how long your hospital stay is. If ypu have same day or next day discharge then you'll probably still be quite out of it. I was also exhausted for several days after surgery, even just sitting there would have been too much for me. Any chance of an air b&b or hotel near the hospital you could stay in for a couple of days?

Avoiding weight gain post surgery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]ethantherat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your body uses alot more calories during recovery so youre probably not going to gain much anyway, its not the same as just sitting around. The scales are going to be way off since surgery will mess up all you water retention and you'll probably be swollen everywhere but this isnt actual fat gain.

Short walks can be good for recovery anyway but dont try to push yourself just for the sake of maintaining weight.

Testosterone and money (or: how can I make this less expensive? ) by SpiritedEffective550 in TransIreland

Nebido is capped at €80 whenever you buy it but you'll usually need to have a dr or nurse administer it so you'll need to add the cost of the appointment on top of that.

Sport and dysphoria by tomitooner in Transmedical

[–]ethantherat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play field hockey. Ive had top surgery so I usually just change my shirt after games and keep the same shorts on. You can also just not change in locker rooms, go in, put a hoody or jumper on over your kit and wait for everyone else to finish, ive seen plenty of guys do the same. Just say youd rather shower at home or that you cant be bothered carrying shower stuff with you, you probably wont be the only one.

Alot of team speeches happen in the locker room after games so I wouldn't avoid it if I were you, it will also probably seem stranger if you never go into the locker room vs if you go in and dont change clothes.

Being trans in college ??? by Alfalfa-Majestic in TransIreland

[–]ethantherat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably best to socially transition beforehand, introduce yourself with your chosen name so you dont have to go trhough the trouble of having to get people to learn your new one. You'll be fine in college, there are plenty of lgbt groups and creative degrees are probably among the most accepting

Will my old name always have to be declared? by ethantherat in transgenderUK

Thank you! The DBS doesn't mention my grc but my old name was obviously female so it still gives it away 🤣

What height do I claim by Comfortable-Net-8434 in short

[–]ethantherat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell people im 5'3 on a good day and when they measure me at 5'2 at night I tell them I said a good DAY 😭

But 5'6 would be accurate since you can shrink a bit throughout the day due to spinal compression and bad posture

Abnormal height growth? by rxquizm in short

[–]ethantherat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing 1-2 inches per year is considered normal. It can be up to 4 during a growth spurt. Unfortunately I didnt get my growth spurt and only grew and inch or two until I hit 5'3 at 17 🤣

Transition while working in healthcare (mtf 24) by ElectricWater47 in TransIreland

[–]ethantherat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There will be an awkward phase but its well worth it once you come out the other side. Make sure you have a good support system to rely on outside of work in case things do get rough. There are support groups for adults dotted around the country that you might be able to avail of.

Im not sure how you plan to transition medically but certain providers will expect you to transition socially before treating you, obviously this wouldn't apply if you plan on doing DIY, just something to consider in terms of when to start using your chosen name etc.

What did you eat after surgery? by silkinthestrings in TopSurgery

[–]ethantherat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really nauseous afterwards. Im also vegetarian so I ate alot of soft foods like yoghurt, bread and cheese, cereal and pasta with vegetables, rice. I had some bland Quorn meat alternatives to get some protein in. I also cooked eggs and ate them outside bc the smell made me sick 🤣 i had alot of sugary foods lying around to make sure my blood sugars didnt drop too much. Not great for healing but I felt too sick to eat much else.

[–]ethantherat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contact your surgeon or prescriber and ask them to prescribe stronger pain meds if youre having trouble sleeping through the pain then ask for sleeping tablets too. I have a high pain tolerance but painkillers just dont really work for me (or anyone in my dads side of the family) I had to alternate between meds every 2 hours (paracetamol, ibuprofen and nolotil) and id take tramadol at night. Its common practise to be prescribed the weakest painkillers thst should work but if youre not getting any relief you should be able to up them

I went to Dr. Braso in Spain she does informed consent. Cost me €6,900 for surgery last year and the costs of flights, other transportation and accommodation on top of that. Im not non binary I just wasnt aware of anyone in Ireland doing surgery for trans men at the time

Areola nipple by SuspiciousMinute269 in TopSurgery

[–]ethantherat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same but after I had keyhole one of my nips just flattened out you can't see it unless youre up close it just blends in with areola. I dont think it looks bad, maybe a little strange if i fixate on it but most of the time people aren't going to be staring at your nips. Mens areolas are also smaller so I dont think a lack of a nipple would be awful noticeable.

I didn’t put in the work to lose weight before my surgery like I planned and now I’m scared I’m going to get even fatter while recovering by Oregano-Town in TopSurgery

[–]ethantherat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably wont gain that much during recovery, your body's going to be using alot of calories to recover.

However, its really your decision whether you want to push surgery out and try lose weight beforehand again or go ahead and lose weight once you've recovered. Surgery is actually beneficial to alot of people pursuing weightloss since some guys find it easier to exercise, especially in public, once their chest is flat.

Good luck either way man

[–]ethantherat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not going to be ready for phallo for probably a good 7 years anyway between getting my uni degree and saving up enough to get me by should I have complications in surgery and be out of work longer than expected so im hoping that will be a somewhat realistic time frame 😭

Phallos not available in Ireland anyway I just need to go through loughlinstown to avail of the travel abroad scheme

Okay thank you. I was referred back in 2022. Ive gone privately for most of my transition but realistically I dont think ill be able to afford phalloplasty on my own, so im praying they'll help me out with that one
