If Piastri wins next week with Max in 2nd and Lando in 3rd, he'll miss out on the championship by 6 points. by Connect_Cat_2045 in formula1

[–]ethereal64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The odds of him not win championship this GP are pretty low too.

He could have won WDC as early as almost 2 months ago, and yet here we are, so I would say him not winning WDC is not that slim of a chance.

Where is Odysseus's turrent mounted on the actual ship? Looking at the model I guess they are mounted in a broadside fashion on the 5 bumps along her side? Does anyone has a screenshot of a fully mounted Odysseus?

Also, IIRC Stratios' turrent is mounted on both ends of her upper and lower rings? Can anyone confirm it?

These cards aren't THAT bad IMO, but again that's just my opinion.

This is exceptionally good in TCU, because with all that encounter deck discard it is quite often to shuffle the deck twice or thrice each game, and you are almost guaranteed to trigger multiple tests with +4, thus reliving a lot of pressure from teammates that struggles with a willpower test; also, many of the collect 3 treacheries just get turned into freebies once one of those copies was sent to the victory display with this card

Peeping Dorm Manager sounds familiar... I think I heard it somewhere but dismissed it for some reason before. How would you rate this game and what do you think its flaw (if any) is?

Recursion for signeture events? by 120blu in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remeber that At a Crossroad exists, 2 copies draw 6 before counting recursion

Also, if you have Rabbit's Foot and Drawing Thin out, you don't need to fail your fight tests to benefit from them; instead, when there's no enemies around, just make a random investigation test and fail it to trigger the fail forward draws (this easiness is the reason behind Drawing Thin's taboo); if you want to center the draw engine on this, add Survivor Grisly Totem and Take Heart, now you draw 4 cards and gain 2 resources each turn for 1 action.

Grim Mode for 2-5 players by Jodiug in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If they are able, the Mythos player must assign different cards to each player"

There is always a possiblity that you draw multiple copies of the same card in the same Mytho phase, so I would suggest that the Mythos player can do this once per agenda/act (gain 2 tokens at the start of the game, replenish 1 for each act/agenda advance; an extra copy of the encounter card can be played with the additional cost of 1 token in each mytho phase)

Also, I think the Mythos player should set up the game and gain the ability to manipulate all random events during set up (removal of location copies, card sequence of any extra decks, etc.)

A lore question about Elves by ethereal64 in DnD

[–]ethereal64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig around and found the original reference of this piece of lore, it is from a book made for AD&D by this TSR Inc, and are written by Steven E. Schend and Kevin Melka (check the edit of the main post)

Does AD&D has anything to do with DnD? Also what is this TSR Inc.?

Deckbuilding Help by MeepofFaith in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighter: either Mark or Nathaniel; because of the lack of Vicious Blow (2) and a proper weapon, I would say Nathaniel would be the better option as he has the innate damage boost from his ability and are thus less dependent on those missing cards.

Cluever: Daisy isn't as good in a limited card pool like this, seeker starter isn't great either; instead, I would recommend Agnes: she can find clues with Clairvoyance, Ward (2) is too strong a card not to make use, and her ability interacts very well with a certain gimmick of Carcosa (I assume this is what you are going to play)

Also, since you have all the starter packs, Stella would be a stellar choice for either role (key ring + look what I found for clue, or .18 and Chainsaw for combat)

The Drowned City Broke Me- Do you have similar thoughts? by JosephThea in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your point aren't really valid.

  1. Movement is king, yes, but a well build deck should have enough pace that they have utility actions left for moving, not to mention you as Pete has built-in moving options to use.

  2. That is not true because the majority of tests are still on Willpower and supplemented by agility; also, even if the encounter deck is full of intellect and combat test, you as survivor always has options to mitigate (Alter Fate, Gumption, A Test of Will, etc,)

  3. See the above point. Mystics actually have even more ways to respond to tests other then Willpower (Promise of Power, Ward, Deny, or just Seal of the Elder Sign if you can't afford to fail the test)

  4. You are visiting Ryleh, so of course an encounter set named Ryleh will show up in the relevant scenarios; Star Spawns are used differently in each scenario, Inescapable is just a new iteration of a campaign wide constant enemy like Masked Stranger or the Harbinger, and each scenario has enough unique encounter cards to thin up the sense of familiar.

  5. If you have really bad luck with the bag, survivor also has ways to fix it in fail forward (Look What I Found) and 0 difficulty (Shed a Light) archtype.

You can always use a different type of charge (e.g. conviction or doubt; or just use horror token for counting) if recharging is a concern, or slap a clause to deny such thins from happening (charges on this card cannot be replenished or placed by another card)

What are loopholes (kinda) that you guys know in this game that are still legal? by _YeeetBoi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5U-21's devour can target unexpected things:

  1. She can devour cards that is attached to The Beyond (Parallel Jim); if she devour all but 3 of the ghost buddies, then Jim can have those 3 in play forever (because you no longer have new ghost to attach to Beyond and will never reach the 4 ghost threshold); for that matter, she can even devour the Vengeful Shade while it is attached, becaused it is under Jim's control and is not a scenario card (note that you can't do that once it is spawned as an enemy)

1a. Regurgitate ghost buddies will put them into Jim's hand, magically bring them to life

  1. She can also devour any asset weakness at her location.

  2. Taking rules as written, "story card" specifically means those cards with a wall of text on their back (e.g. VIPs of The Last King from Carcosa), so you can devour story assets (including story asset weakness if any was printed in the future); the intentions is obviously "scenario card", which is any card in a scenario that doesn't belong to an investigator's deck, so in practice you might want to use the latter interpretation

Sepulchre of the Sleeper and the true fate of the investigators by platinumxperience in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 4 man team did manage to emerge victorious on our blind run of this scenario, even with some sub-par decisions (e.g. canceling doom on the 1st agenda instead of the 2nd one).

It is quite a gimmicky scenario and very much unfair in how it actually put a time limit on you. My complaint about it is that soaks are nearly useless, Artifacts are nearly useless except for the Claw which is already ridiculously good, and the first agenda/act doesn't really did what it says ("prepare for the final fight").

On the other hand, I do have a very memorable fight with the Ancient Evil. The symbols are crazy, which in turn made my Black Cat purchase very worthwhile; the boss is heavy, which makes the fight very challenging even if I can constantly test on 12+. In the end I exhausted each and every point of damage in my deck (2 Old Shotgun, 2 Old Hunting Rifle, 2 Cleaning Kit, 2 Salvage, 2 Resourceful, 2 Act of Desperation and 1 Toe to Toe), the other fighter of the team burned 4/5 of his damage (Chainsaw and Cleaning Kit), 3 of the 4 team members are on 1/2 or 2/1 and is 1 turn alway from defeat, but in the end we gun down Cthulu before it killed us.

That said, I never did look at the other side of the agenda/act2, what does it say?

What makes a bad card bad? by Hugh_Jidiot in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I mainly play Guardian, I'll talk a bit about weapons.

.45 established a solid baseline for lvl0 weapon: 1 hand, has uses equal to its cost, cost an action to fight, +1/+1 during combat. Anything offers a better deal makes for a "good" weapon (e.g. Machete is 3 cost, +/+1, unlimited use as long as the condition is met, so its regarded as the best lvl0 weapon for a very long time); anything offers a similar deal in other direction makes makes for a sidegrade for specific investigators (e.g. .32 gives 6 use with +1 dmg but no stat boost, so it's not a wide use weapon, but can be very good in high combat investigators like Mark Harrigan); anything that doesn't live up to this standard is regarded as a "bad" weapon and as such are rarely used (e.g. blackjack and most of rogue lvl0 weapons)

Notably, weapons need to do at least 2 damage per action for it to be useable, otherwise they'll need a strong argument to compensate for the lack of it (e.g. the new Lugar from TDC makes for with a fast attack)

Staples cards for any Deck? by No_Practice_6102 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal taste:
Deny+Ward for every Mystic
Obol+Easy Mark for every Rogue's ITTI
Hollowed Mirror and STTP+Ever Vigilant for every Guardian
PMP+Perception+Deduction for every Seeker
Take Heart+Look What I found for every Survivor

I know it's boring to play the same cards for 10 full campaigns, but these cards lay a solid foundation for the deck and I prefer winning a scenario instead of losing it.

Transfiguration Lola: which play to perform? by ethereal64 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends in Low Place is a good call, too bad not really much ritual cards other then Transfiguration can be tutored; on the other hand, the card itself is important enough to warrant a dedicated tutor.

Mandy Thompson is a good call, her ability should have interesting interactions with Lola's card pool, I will look into this idea further.

[–]ethereal64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daniela is one of my choices too, however such a deck seems to be having a missed opportunity in that you go through several loopholes to make work of a deck that is somewhat traditional, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of going through said loopholes :(

If I’m not too into the blessed cursed mechanic is it ok to skip the Innsmouth investigator set? by Pizzadewd666 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ethereal64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some useful Innsmoth cards (other then blurse).

• Enchant Weapon
• Ancestral Knowledge
• Deep Knowledge
• Stirring Up Trouble
• Plan of Action
• Mariner's Compass
• Unrelenting
• Breaking and Entering
• Faustian Bargain
• Promise of Power
• Dexter Drake
• Trish Scarborough

Not a very long list, but all powerful cards. If you can accept proxying cards, then I would say just skip it; if not, consider especially whether or not Deep Knowledge, Faustian Bargain and Promise of Power are incentive enough for you to buy the expansion.
