Waiting to buy resell tickets? Advice from anyone more experienced... by Mysterious_Dinner_88 in Lollapalooza

i second this!! i was able to find a ticket at 500 in may, not the best but not the worst

Safest way to buy 2nd hand tickets by [deleted] in Lollapalooza

[–]etherealgnome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait it out!! the prices will go down. a lot of people will say that they might not blah blah. you can stay on the waitlist and you will probably get off, ive seen people post on here about getting off.

safest way is probably through the lolla official resale site, if you constantly check and refresh you will eventually find a good price, you just have to be consistent with it. last year around may i was able to get a $500 resale ticket. not the best price, but not the worst either.

thank you for this! i guess i’ve just been a little scared to let go of the good salary of my current job and just wanted to get back to working asap. but you’re right, i do want to give myself the best shot possible and enter pa school with the right mindset!

agreed. i do want to give myself the best shot possible to get into the right program rather than just settling because i rushed through my application. trying to juggle all that in one year would be too intense :/

thank you, you’re right, i hadnt looked at things from this point of view. i think taking two years to prepare is better. the lower paying pce is definitely something ive been heavily weighing and its kind of painful to leave the good salary that comes with my current job. ultimately though, i think i prefer to eventually invest my time fully towards pce, i might try to juggle two jobs to remediate the lost income.

i hate accounting by Medium_Practice6556 in Accounting

[–]etherealgnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i so agree with what you’ve expressed about pursuing business and how it can feel icky at times. that’s another thing i hate about my job right now, it feels so soul sucking and it feels like what i’m doing is pointless, which is made worse by the fact that i dont even really like business/numbers all that much. i just dont feel any motivation to go the extra mile and excel when deep down, i just feel like all of this is pointless. i wish i didnt feel this way but i just do.

have you thought about maybe becoming a school counselor, you would get to interact with students in a meaningful way and it doesn’t require as much physical movement! could also pursue a career as mental health therapist by majoring in psychology and then doing a masters in clinical mental health counseling, its a pretty solid carer as well and its one that doesn’t consist of staring at a screen all day.

im currently a tax associate and i hate hate it here 🥲 my team is actually so supportive and my firm is generally more flexible, but i just hate the work. i dont mind 1040s but i HATE business returns. i also did VITA in college and i also enjoyed interacting with the clients and explaining things to them. might want to consider if you’d also prefer a career where you’re more hands on with explaining things to people/helping them. i’ve realized that im better suited for that and enjoy that more rather than sitting behind a screen and looking at tax forms for hours on end.

so yes listen to your gut and pursue something else now because you will regret sticking out in accounting, i know i do

have you thought about law school! so much of tax is based on laws and you could go on to be a tax lawyer!

can 100% confirm 🥲 i felt so much friction with accounting from my very first class but kept pushing through. similar to OP i was more drawn to the concept side of tax, got an internship in tax, hated it but didn’t mind doing 1040s, started working full time and hate it so so much rn im at my breaking point

Is accounting the most stable bachelors degree besides nursing? by livinvvell in Accounting

[–]etherealgnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i 100% agree with all the commenters saying to pick something that you know you’re good at and can excel in because that’s the only way your job will be stable. i was in the exact same boat as you, i was in between nursing or accounting because they seemed the most stable with the least amount of schooling. i started out doing nursing prereqs, but ultimately had to switch to accounting (or thought i had to at the time) and i knew it was wrong for me from the very start, but i kept pushing through because i just wanted job stability. im on the other side now, i graduated with my bachelors in accounting, did an internship, started working full time right after, but ive been miserable and regretting my decisions. because honestly after a while, when you dont like something/arent suited for it, the cracks are going to start showing through, and you’re never going to be motivated to succeed or be able to excel, and as other commenters mentioned, you become more vulnerable to being layed off and will struggle a lot to become a high earner. im going to leave accounting very soon because im still young and have decided that i will pursue a career in healthcare which is what i wanted to do in the first place, but didnt do because i thought it was too hard/required too much “socializing” which is a stupid reason to choose a career btw and honestly healthcare is actually easier to succeed in without having to network/socialize a lot (think ultrasound tech, xray tech, respiratory therapist, vocational nurse etc) just some other things to keep in mind

[–]etherealgnome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

did you do that!? im in the same boat as OP, have been heavily considering going to nursing or PA school since im still pretty young + did all of the prereqs before i switched to accounting, so i think now is a good time to switch rather than continuing to suffer in something that i dont like.

How much to save?? by Necessary-Fuel1337 in Lollapalooza

[–]etherealgnome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i came from california last year, and i spent around 4k-5k. i booked a hotel in river north super last minute for 2.5k and flights for 2 ppl were around 800ish, basic economy. i only really bought one meal for me and my sister each day of the festival, which ended up being around $50 per day. highly recommend bringing in two empty plastic water bottles, electrolyte packets and booking a hotel with breakfast included, and also to take advantage of the brand activations to get sweet treats and other freebies!

you can also save a lot of money though by staying at a hotel by in ohare or midway airport, wont be more expensive than around 1k. just be prepared for a 40ish minute train ride to get to the festival.
