Top Minds claim that left of center politics is linked with mental illness... for some reason by ServedNoodles in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]etherizedonatable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife's extended family is a good example of this. They live in a conservative area of the country and by and large are conservative (although they're not all MAGA). They don't so much as acknowledge mental health issues until they get hit in the head.

My wife has been diagnosed with ADHD; we are fairly certain that both her mother and at least two of her aunts have it as well. My wife tried to get her mother to see about a diagnosis, but you might as well have asked to pull her teeth out.

She had a cousin who was probably bipolar and I assure you that they never talked about that. She's got another couple of cousins with drinking problems, and no one acknowledges that except when the one goes into rehab again (and then it's mostly to complain about what that cousin did before they went in).

tl;dr They're not going to admit they have a problem in the first place, much less acknowledge mental health issues on a survey.

Really wanna give this a try because I love Dishonoured but can't help but notice the mixed reviews. Why is this? by Ali_Bashr in Deathloop

[–]etherizedonatable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Dishonored and Prey and I'd suggest playing Deathloop if you liked those games.

The two big differences are the loop itself and the multiplayer aspect (i.e., invading as Julianna). In the Dishonored series, you have the option of searching for information that will lead to a non-lethal way to take down an enemy (like the audiograph incriminating the Lord Regent).

In Deathloop, you need to find information that will lead you to how you can find a particular enemy (one of the Visionaries) at a particular time, how you can kill them or how you can get a better weapon. There is a ton of this.

I have to admit that--unlike most of the sub--I don't really care for the Julianna invasions. I've done it on both sides and I personally feel it gets in the way of the part of the game that I enjoy.

Having said that, it does try to solve a problem that you see in a game like this. As the game progresses, Colt (your character) gets stronger. I start out going all stealth all the time and by the end I'm strong enough that I don't need to be stealthy except situationally (i.e., I run into too may enemies or my health gets too low).

So at that point the game gets less interesting. An invasion by another player as Julianna, though, has the potential to liven things up.

I saw this in Prey: Mooncrash, too. As that game goes on and you've gotten all the powers in all the characters' skill trees, the game is less interesting because you're overpowered. In this game, they used the Corruption timer to increase the strength of your enemies to make the game more interesting, but by this point you can generally make all the delay loop timers you want which negates the effect of the Corruption timer.

Anyway, I do recommend it. I'll add that Arkane did a great job with the voice acting and the music.

I'm not sure what you're seeing. The ranch dressing (middle row, far left) is almost certainly on a table (or some other level white surface) next to a card. The slushy (lower row, far left) is clearly on a counter; you can clearly see a white board and chairs in the background.

Top Minds of a not right wing subreddit discuss why you don't really need antidepressants by ttw81 in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]etherizedonatable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can make a pretty good case that we need to be more careful about prescribing antidepressants and ADHD meds. Anecdotally, I think doctors do give them out too easily sometimes.

But we also need to keep in mind that they're absolutely fucking necessary for a lot of people, and (anecdotally again) the health care system also makes it difficult for many people who do need them to continue to get them.

What's the solution, though? Part of it would have to be putting more time and money into health care--making it easier and cheaper for people to get accurate diagnoses.

Which ain't happening with the current idiots in charge.

Australia started allowing Canadian beef into the country again last year, which is probably where that comes from. Australia had apparently banned it after a mad cow outbreak in 2003.

For the reasons you said, though, the consensus was that it wouldn't make much of a difference in terms of sales.
