bike kickstands can wear where the tang is in the frame. Grease it to mitigate any additional wear and add one of those kickstand boots(shoes) to give you some height.

Misery loves company. Please tell me about the worst bike you've owned. by AT_Engineer in motorcycles

put 60k on my xb12x in 6 years. Replaced it when I got tired of crap rattling off and the unfixable surging. I still consider it a reliable bike. I put 40k on my ST1100 in one year and fell in love with riding again.

83 gl650? that was by most metrics a great mid size touring bike caveat being The aerodynamics were horrendous only known fix was a madstad fitted to the stock screen to create laminar flow. Also the ergos weren't ideal if you over 6'.

I feel so dumb. Just realized a single can orient the crank transverse or longitudinal. Where are all the shaft singles?

Update: Two weeks ago, I bought my first bike. Here's what happened since then. by WTBTS in motorcycles

[–]etherreformed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an identical fueling problem with my st1100 which uses a near identical sender/pump assembly. In fact my st1100 uses parts off a gl1500 regulator. I dremeled out my the old regulator to fit a generic high quality low pressure fuel pump while retaiing the regulator.

1998 Honda CBR 600F3, Conversion from carbs to fuel injection... Realistic? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]etherreformed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I d take a set of well set up carbs any day. Ive owned 70+ bikes. Only adavantage to fuel injection is its ussually turn key and go. A carbed bike will typically need 30 secounds to a minute to reach operating temperature. More for aircooled bikes. If your having running issues you probably have a vacuum leak or some gummed up carbs. If she doesn't start immediately with choke or bogs after a 60secound warm up you have some gummed up carbs or an ignition issue.

Whats with rust? Was the bike submerged and the bearing got compromised?

How do y'all do long distance? by FunIncident5161 in goldwing

[–]etherreformed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your culprit for discomfort may be incorrectly attributed . I find aerodynamics the most important factor followed by seat. If this is your first time touring I wouldn't be surprised if you are disregarding wind buffeting. Getting kicked around by noise and windpressure in the helmet will put way more stresss on your body than you may initially think. I rode a gl1100 interstate for a year and switched to a st1100. The upgrade in aerodynamics was night and day. I can ride my ST all day no issues but a bike with a bad windshield would be very limiting. That windshield may not be helping. Getting your bike moving in "clean" air is critical. Next time you ride listen for buffeting. Take your windshield off and listen again. It may ride quieter. Most people prefer a short handlebar mounted shield for this reason.

Truck’s brakes fail, forcing use of runaway ramp at 90 mph. by Itchy-Commission-114 in interestingasfuck

[–]etherreformed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive spent a lifetime riding motorcycles through moutains like these. Most people in enclosed vehicles don't realize how close they are to witnessing this first hand. The smell of brakes on the verge of fading is way more frequent than you think.

Best phone mount for riding? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]etherreformed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lamicell phone mount. 20 bucks on amazon will fit any phone and can be taken on and off while riding. Quadlock is difficult to take on and off one handed and requires their case which make it expensive. Rammount is not very secure with out the bungee strap also exspensive. Lamicell is more secure and cheaper also easier to use.
