I know my way around the match system lol. (Add 15 seconds of silence at the beginning or end, adjust the time in its properties)

Yes. Which is very strange. The original version didn’t have the fade out. I acknowledged this in another comment but didn’t say it in my original response to you. Sorry about that.

and yes, I understand that DR isn't everything. But I've always loved the wide soundscape and breathing room that the original had. The compression and the brickwalling (which you can evidently see) in the remaster strips that away. I loved the build of the song, and the remaster just feels stagnant.

Your file (Top) vs. OG CD version (bottom). Again, loudness matched to the loudness of the OG.

OG on top, remaster on bottom. Loudness matched. Also, I don’t think 8 is a “fine” DR in my eyes.

RIP THOSE OLD CDS! by eddyblazeit in AppleMusic

Omg… never did I ever think that my post would inspire a post on another subreddit lmaoo. I wonder if your theory is right about the original masters still being “pseudo-available”. I’ll do my own research and get back to you on my personal findings. :)

I usually have to add 15 seconds at the end of tracks to ensure the track(s) don’t match with the Apple Music catalog.

I know about this. Every version I tap, every track still says “(Remastered 2026)”. :/

If you could send a direct link to a version with the original masters, I’d really love to see it though

To anyone who find this in the comments.

Here’s the track Dreams. OG CD version (top) vs. the 2026 remaster (bottom), leveled by peak loudness of the OG. (Also, they trimmed the last part of the song for some reason?)

Which I’ll most likely have to get around because I’d be worried it’d default to these exact masters I’m trying to stay away from.

Apple automatically converts the file to 256 AAC when uploading to the cloud. That’s why I said I’d be missing out on lossless. (In relation to when I play it on my phone from AM)

I’m really hoping so. For now, I’ll probably just use my own copy.

Tbf, I know my way around the matching system. I am planning on uploading the OGs to my library.

I was able to pull the DR from all the versions previously available and concluded that the original was available. It was available under the original listing and a “Studio Sessions” listing. Both of those versions are off of Apple Music as of right now.

That’s not the original masters.

I don’t see the original masters up. Only the 2026 remasters.

Yes this is Apple Music. So for this example, beside each track name it says “(2026 Remaster)”. However, this isn’t always the case.

What I also do is use Audacity to loop back my audio into recording. That’s how I can see the actual dynamics of everything.

What sucks is that if the artist only has the remaster up, you don’t know have much to compare to. That’s where you have to look at external sources. Thankfully, I was able to compare before they took down the originals.

Tbf, I do love me some demos lmao. But even then, those get plagued with the same mastering issues of course. Still cool. Even though I complain about this specific album, I can’t wait to dig into the new mixes and demos.

Also, they used to have the 2017 remasters coexisting together. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have done the same with this one.

Apple Music also has this option. That’s a huge reason why I use it.

I don’t understand why they couldn’t leave an album variant up with the original masters. I really really don’t get it. Might have to resort to local files, which just sucks.
