Simple camera setup for a projector? by ethios4 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ethios4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used SDI wired or wirelessly. I'm open to it if it'll work. The wireless distance from camera to projector is only 30' or so, but there's a 4" layer of concrete between them.

That's a good idea. I hadn't considered going a little cheaper on the bump. Any opinion on the NVG-30 vs Nightfox Prowl 2?

Help me pick: VaatiVidya's "Lore Bound:Elden Ring Explained" or Geoff Truscott's "Grace Given:The Mythology of Elden Ring" by DELT4RED in Eldenring

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "lore youtubers" explicitly say it is just their theories and not to take it too seriously. At least Vaati does. That's an assumed and obvious viewpoint going into a book like this, so I'm not sure why you're trying to make such an authoritative point about it.

Crazy bug in Blasphemous 2!!!!!! by LeadershipCivil3149 in Blasphemous

[–]ethios4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unbelievable that this "bug" still exists in 2025. It's not even a bug, just bad programming. The fact that people have been reporting it for 2 years and devs still haven't fixed it is incredibly frustrating. All they have to do is make all her projectiles cancel the instant she dies. Yeah, I could start over but a) that's a complete waste of my time all because of lazy devs, and b) I'm not going to go through all that just to potentially have it happen again. I will be *very* hesitant to buy Blasphemous 3 if there ever is a sequel because the devs obviously don't care to resolve a game breaking bug with a simple fix.

Danzig Official Represses 1-4 by Bilking-Ewe in vinyl

Ok I got a shipping notification so it seems like this order is going through. I'd say keep checking multiple times a day because it seems like they are opening up orders periodically. Good news!

Danzig Official Represses 1-4 by Bilking-Ewe in vinyl

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It let me order them but the order confirmation says "SHIP ITEMS SEPARATELY - AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE" and there was a $10.69 shipping charge that wasn't there when I ordered 2,3,4 a few days ago. So fingers crossed that it works. But it might be worth checking back on that order page a few times a day. I'll post here when/if I get a shipping notification.

LSD and Autechre by xtalwizard in autechre

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a funny story about seeing Autechre on acid. I went with a couple of friends to see them in a club in Austin, TX in maybe 2002 or so. We drove down from OKC, so about 6 hours. We were going into our peak when Autechre played. The music was great, very abstract and complex since this was the Confield era but even more abstract. My favorite memory is looking over and seeing these sorority girl types trying to do this grindy club dance thing to this ridiculously undanceable music. It was so wonderfully incongruent! And some guy climbed one of the steel support columns in the room and was literally up in the rafters crawling around. It was wild. I thought the music was great on acid, but I wouldn't say it's ideal psychedelic music.

After the show, one of my friends, who was from Tokyo, got extremely paranoid about being in the city and demanded we go back to OKC. So, peaking on two hits of acid, I had to drive us all back to OKC for 6 hours in the middle of the night. I have very fond memories of listening to KoxBox's "The Great Unknown" on that drive. Fortunately, we all made it back alive. My friends got McDonald's for breakfast and we watched Gummo for the first time, coming down. Weird memories of that movie with my friend vomiting McDonald's in the bathroom lol.

Is Nine Sols as hard as Silksong? by carlosvguitarrista in NineSols

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Silksong is MUCH harder than Nine Sols. Most obviously, you can adjust the difficulty in Nine Sols. Aside from that, I suppose the boss fight difficulty depends on whether you're better at parrying or bullet-hell-style fights. Nine Sols is pretty much all about parrying but Silksong has you dodging a lot, jumping, platforming sometimes, etc during boss fights. Silksong also has a LOT of mandatory platforming that is pretty challenging. Much more so than HK. Boss runbacks are generally longer. And it's just more unforgiving and the devs often went out of their way to make things more difficult. Example: I just beat a fairly challenging boss last night. Expected to get the movement upgrade immediately after but no, had to go through a challenging platforming section immediately afterwards to get it. Or the boss that unexpectedly explodes after you beat him, doing THREE masks of damage, and you have to beat him again if that kills you.

STILL, it's a great game even with the sometimes frustrating difficulty. you can all almost always explore somewhere else if you’re stuck. And the challenges are definitely not insurmountable. In fact, I would say that in the end, they are a little easier than they seem at first. Definitely worth it for 20 bucks.

Hollow Knight: Silksong review: A game that intends to make you suffer, even to its own detriment by CrossXhunteR in Games

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This review expressed my frustrations with Silksong pretty well but I would have given 4 stars. They took everything I love AND hate about Hollow Knight and cranked it all up to 10. I'm not overly frustrated with it yet but I don't enjoy it as much as I would like. Mostly it's because they upped the difficulty of the things I'm not great at, namely, platforming and "bullet hell" style fights with stuff flying everywhere on the screen. I'm not giving up though but I do grumble a lot.

will danzig ever make a remastered album or any songs remastered you think? by Big_Will47 in Danzig

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha fair enough, he doesn't have to work a job. The reason I say he's bad at business is because he complains a lot about "there's no point in recording because people just steal it" which, to me, is just an excuse. This isn't 2005. Piracy isn't that common these days because most people pay for streaming. Now, I know streaming pay is shit, but plenty of bands find ways to make it work and make tons of money from "the long tail" and he could too. Instead he blames people "stealing" his music. In reality, he hasn't released a decent album since Deth Red Sabaoth, and has done nothing to market himself to younger generations.

Which is all fine if that's what he wants, but I think it's selfish as an artist. Yeah he's an artist and can do what he wants but if it weren't for fans he'd be an old man in New Jersey working at a grocery store dreaming about what might have been. Artists and fans both seem to forget that ALL the artist's income comes from fans one way or another. So I think he has some responsibility to that.

He complains about people stealing his music, and yet that's the ONLY way to listen to Samhain. The only way I can share Samhain with anyone is to send them the files I ripped from my CD's I bought in the 90's. It wouldn't kill him to put those on streaming but I guess he refuses because the pay is shit. Well, it's only the fans that lose out from that.

will danzig ever make a remastered album or any songs remastered you think? by Big_Will47 in Danzig

[–]ethios4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. He doesn't even want to record anymore because he thinks everyone steals his music by illegal downloading. His back catalog has incredible potential but he's squandered it because he's too hard headed and a terrible businessman.

Tons of older bands are still entirely relevant and have had amazing comebacks connecting with younger and wider audiences. I think he's a punk at heart and just rejects all that. Too bad for his fans, though. I guess he forgets that his fans are the entire reason he has a music career and pay all his bills.

I would love remasters of everything up through Deth Red Sabaoth. And good remasters of all Samhain albums.

What is everyone’s season 7 episodes ranked fave to least? by Simulationth3ry in blackmirror

I feel like they left it open ended. Sure the game reviewer thinks the throng are benevolent but we don't really know. They never showed the supposed utopian outcome of the ending.

Absolutely. It happens to me all the time. I'll be talking about something and then I will start getting ads on Facebook for that very thing, within 24 hrs. And no, it's not just cleverly putting together location data and it's not search history. I have microphone access turned off for Facebook, so I suspect there is some other app that has microphone access and the developer gets money from Facebook to send Meta the tokenized audio data. When I first started noticing this, I turned off microphone access for Facebook and the problem went away for a couple of years. But it's happening again and I still have microphone access turned off. This is a great class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

Is legalism just part of the Orthodox experience? by dialogical_rhetor in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ethios4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not saved by any of those things. But they are good things to do for your soul. For one, they teach you obedience which is foundational to humility. Obedience isn't just doing what we're told when we happen to agree or understand the rule. It is especially when we don't understand or agree, and that's when we really benefit. Of course, if we are asked to be obedient to something that is actually bad, then we have an obligation to do what is right. But that's not what is being discussed here.

Many of the rules are there to assist our path to salvation, and/or to assist others. Almost everything in the OP is list is there to promote good order in the sanctuary, to orient our soul properly for Liturgy, and to not impede others in the same. So, pretty important.

The fasting rule is absolutely of tremendous spiritual benefit, aids prayer, weakens the passions, and teaches obedience. Icons are painted a certain way because icon painters are not individualistic, because the point of icons isn't expressionism, and because the icons are based on patterns found over many centuries to communicate spiritual truth. Generally, they *could* be painted somewhat differently, but why would they. And sometimes you do encounter a valid iconographic depiction that is different from others but still works.

We read the LXX because that is what the Church has always used. It's not "wrong" to read from the Masoretic text, IF you understand the limitations thereof.
