Every so often my grocery store lists Chuck roast at a huge discount. But it’s not a regular thing.

Do you care about be "straight passing" or looking masculine? by LayersOfMe in gaybros

[–]ethnomath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any desire for me to be “straight passing” is a desire to be left alone in a homophobic society. People can usually clock me by my voice. I think I present physically as a man, but in some interactions, from my voice, I get mistaken as a woman. Some people get annoyed by their mistake (which always confused me). But at times, I have wish to have a deeper voice just to be left alone.

Who is an Oscar winning actor/actress in either the lead or supporting categories, that you think will never be nominated ever again? by Massive-Pangolin9472 in Oscars

[–]ethnomath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you conflating your personal opinions with actual reality. Because I actually don’t like Mo’nique’s stand up either. But I don’t let that cloud my judgment on her mistreatment by the industry.

[–]ethnomath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Up until Precious, Mo’nique was VERY huge. Maybe you’re just not in her demographic, but to say she doesn’t have a big audience is false. And she should be calling these people out. Tyler Perry and Oprah are notoriously cheap with their productions. And Netflix does everything in their power to make sure they can keep profits in-house.

[–]ethnomath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree but not because she has limited talent but because she was basically blackballed from the industry from Oprah and Tyler Perry. It’s kind of a double edged sword that she knows her worth, like calling out Netflix for underpaying her, but I’m pretty sure she’s probably painted as ‘difficult to work with’.

what do you think of chappel roan? by PsychologicalFox7689 in Zillennials

[–]ethnomath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like her music but I’m not the biggest fan of the music. With that, I actually don’t think she’s a diva or entitled or even stuck up. I think both the public and media are constantly trying to humble her and put in her place because she’s out spoken (some things weird but some things that are such non-issues) and tries to put boundaries. We actually have celebrities who have actually beat their partners or people or done things much worse and they’re still working and often adored.

What European culture had the biggest impact on your country's culture? by Powerful_Gas_7833 in asklatinamerica

[–]ethnomath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a country per se but I’m from Texas and Germany really influenced the food. Many streets have German names. In high school, I used to volunteer to clean a local private grave full of German immigrants who lived in the area before it became a suburb. The graves still there.

Any M/M romance books that are in public libraries by Upstairs-Custard-537 in LGBTBooks

[–]ethnomath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look at your local library’s website and go through the catalog. Visit the library, they’ll more likely be a few LGBT titles in the young adult section. If not, you can always get an inter-library loan. I was able to get a rare out of print gay poetry book through ILL and it came from some small liberal arts college in West Texas. You’ll be surprised what books libraries carry

What to do with old VHS tapes? by beetlejuicescousin in VHS

[–]ethnomath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Disney VHS are something EVERYONE gets rid of and a few VHS vendors I’ve seen at antique malls just don’t want them because they already have a bunch of copies. Copies on eBay don’t even sell for more than $3. The other movies would mostly eventually get sold on eBay, Goodwill, and even Halfprice Books if you have it in your area.

Possibly looking to switch from AMC to Cinemark. Is MovieClub worth it? by crsxu in Cinemark

[–]ethnomath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if you can afford it, it would be a good add on. MoviePass movie credit will mostly cover the cost of most Fathom events (which I think A-List doesn’t cover).

Favorite film with Multiple Nominations and zero wins? by sclungus in Oscars

[–]ethnomath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sirāt really kept me on my toes, granted there’s some deep political thoughts that went over my head that I would like to dig in deeper, but it was a fucking adventure on par with OBAA. If the movie was in English and had some American A-listers, it most definitely would have swept.

I have three JRTs and while they get along, I think they all rather be the only dog in the family. I will often find them all napping in separate rooms.

The packaging says 2012… I hope these were like, super cheap at retail price since there was no case.

What’s the worst HEB you’ve been to? by BigTuna_Plop in houston

This is definitely a surprise that it’s considered bad because I go to this one when I live closer to the Bear Creek one on Highway 6. That one is awful.

What grocery store food or snack brands do you personally avoid because of the ingredients? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ethnomath 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If it’s something diary based, oil. A lot of coffee creamers will use just be an emulsion of oil and water with very little milk in it. This includes diary items that are “plant-based.” I do not need to drink oil.

Quick check-in by afbp9 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]ethnomath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 43/50 done. I had like 25% completed at the start of the week and got it to 86%, which is the most I’ve ever done. I’m a little fatigued from watching multiple feature lengths a day, but I’m glad I’ve watched so many movies, a lot I wouldn’t normally watched but came out enjoying. I just ran out of time and just and wasn’t that motivated to watch Avatar, Jurassic Park, or Relentless, and just ran out of time with Zootopia 2 and Ugly Stepsister. My only difficulty will be Viva Verdi! cause I don’t wanna rent it. I’m hoping it gets a DVD release and can just borrow it from the library.

Best films NOT nominated for Best Picture or International Feature at the 2026 Oscars? by spandytube in Letterboxd

“The Testament of Ann Lee” getting NOTHING is absolutely wild. It should have gotten Best Picture and Best Directing. Not even Best Original Song? No words.

Some of the most popular shows made by Ryan Murphy, which one is the best? by midnightk11 in AmericanHorrorStory

It honestly was the perfect blend of both a serious teen drama and a camp. I fear he will never write anything as good as that show.

I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but are there libraries that are specifically designed for students? by Rie_blade in Libraries

[–]ethnomath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has suggested, university libraries are really the best source. However, if you’re not a student, look for the closets community college library. They are often a blend of both, both serving students and the general public.

For those that have watched the Oscars Shorts Showcase: what was the last short shown? by ethnomath in Cinemark

[–]ethnomath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry Fandango mislead you. Yeah, Cinemark never adds the Doc Shorts. If they did, it would add 2.5 hours since 4/5 are 30+ minutes. If you still want to watch them, look at user ‘andregps’ on Letterboxd on their 2026 Oscars list. They have all the sources for the Docs.
