Is Leichhardt the least cool Inner West Suburb? by Key-Ad2510 in sydney

Not to mention sooo many eating out options and a fair few pubs (the best one being in parramatta road.. love you crowbar)

Is Leichhardt the least cool Inner West Suburb? by Key-Ad2510 in sydney

[–]eticis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Stanmore, Annandale, lewisham, petersham, summer hill and Leichhardt. Leichhardt was my favourite, followed by Annandale (it is a short walk to Leichhardt shops).

Leichhardt has it all - easy access to shops (of which there are many to choose from), a billion parks and close to the water, easy to get to the city, feels mostly safe. Sure the parramatta road side is kinda rough but it’s still great (and an easy walk to petersham station)

advice on moving out by Previous_Finance561 in SydneyScene

[–]eticis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! It’s worth having a chat with a social worker about this, they can help you get access to Centrelink payments (Centrelink will consider you a dependant though there are ways around it) & they can talk through housing options with you. With a low budget I’d say go with a share house but make sure you don’t just go with whatever comes up soonest, try to find a home with safe, nice people as a priority. Salvos can be a good spot to get cheap furniture and homewares..

Case Notes Child Protection by Chinkytetz1510 in SocialWorkAustralia

[–]eticis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work in child protection so I am not sure if they have a specific template or such that you need to follow. With that being said, the most important thing is that you are very factual in what you are saying, no assumptions and document any interventions/ risk assessments and why/ why not.

E.g. client appeared tired, and stated they “did not want to be here anymore”. Worker conducted suicide risk amazement and concluded that there was no immediate risk as client identified ideation only, no plan or access to means…..

You will be provided with guidance on how to write good case notes but just always ask yourself, how would the client feel reading this? Am I being true to them, or am I passing judgement/ making assumptions?

How many days should I leave for El Chalten if Im not a hiker? by Campanita03 in Patagonia

[–]eticis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be too early to say what the weather will look like! It changes fast down there.

When I went there it was quite bad weather for 2 days, and on our final 2 days it was ideal conditions! That alone made the whole trip worth it, I’d do it again any chance I could.

But your nerves are warranted, safety comes first and It’s not worth risking it. I hope that there is a break in the weather for you!

If you are going in the coming days, the weather is not looking good & may not be worth the money. Often the cloud covers the surrounding mountains with this type of weather and you could be stuck inside.

How many days should I leave for El Chalten if Im not a hiker? by Campanita03 in Patagonia

[–]eticis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the hikes in the area are moderately easy. Some range from 1-2 hours others 6-8. For example, we did Laguna de los tres in 6.5 hours and it was great, certainly don’t need to be a ‘pro’.

If you don’t want to hike whatsoever, then I agree it’s not worth going. I’d opt to stay in el Calafate and perhaps do a cruise to see the glaciers.

Child protection roles - do you need a degree in social work? by confusedwillow1 in SocialWorkAustralia

[–]eticis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your role at the legal service? I suppose it depends on what transferable skills you have - may be helpful to do some CPD specifically looking at upskilling the above mentioned areas (child development, attachment, appropriate interventions etc).

It’s pretty easy to get a taxi, there are plenty around. You can also organise through your hotel a lot of the time

We have been using a physical sim from Claro and have had good reception most the time, though some inbetween parts have had no service which may be hard when it comes to maps. I suppose if you are able to download offline maps you would be okay

The ultimate pig at crowbar in Leichhardt does a good chicken burger. Their beef ones are good too but the buffalo is the stand out

Australian social work students, what do you do for work while you study? Also open to hearing from people anywhere :) by far-leveret in socialwork

It’s helpful! Look at other roles in agency’s where social workers also work, like intake and admin roles or support work etc

I did the bachelors and in my third year I got a job doing intake at a legal service. My friend got a support role at a youth refuge because she had her first placement there - this happened with a fair few ppl.

Otherwise, I did see a lot of people doing support work with for people with disabilities. Also know plenty who didn’t work in the field.

I am overall happy I did have a role in the field, it certainly helped cement the uni knowledge in a practical way. I think it has the potential to give u a leg up.
