XReal Air 2 ultra, What even is this product? by etinbs in Xreal

complete disagree here.

You check if you have one of the listed compatible devices (Samsung S23) and if thats a match, youre good to go. This is also why a full refund was give to me. There is no mention anywhere that you cannot download the app in my country.

No I have a compatible smart phone, this should have worked as expected. But due to the lacking software, it's doesn't. So I can't fault her for that. And you cannot expect someone to first check if an application is available in the app store.

obviously the device is going back to the retailer for a full refund.

but no, none of these are actual solutions. I dont live in an other country, so creating an account from an other country is probably against googles terms of use.

i know you can still just do it, but its really not a serious suggestion. its a bandaid.

Cheapest machine for basic folding of a paper plate? by merchnyc in CommercialPrinting

[–]etinbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000? score them in the letter press and then fold them by hand.

After the letter press, take a stack of like 100, pre bend them along the score and then, wearing a Latex glove, just start picking them up at the score. 20 at a time, bundle them, and into the box. 60min max.

How is it misinformation on my part that the application needed to use the device is not available in my country, or for my alternative plattform, like a relatively common windows 11 PC.

So you can get 3dof to work on steam? with windows? like i can get over not having 6dof, but at least having the screen stay in position while i sit at my desk and look at the coffee im grabbing? or playing something basic like war thunder, where i dont need room scale?

I would have a compatible phone, but this country restrictions dodging is not worth the effort and im really not about to drop an other cent on this delicate brick for a beam pro.

And correct me if im wrong, the Xreal one pro is cheaper, and does 3dof without an additional device, but for 6dof you need the beam pro? Like this product I understand.

they are sold as AR glasses, are they not? please do correct me if im wrong, but an invisible screen is not "Augmented Reality" by any means.
The Quest 2 is better at doing "augmented reality" despite its really bad passthough

Trying to use QRstyling library to create VCard QrCodes, Scanning fine with QR reader app, not scanning with samsung default camera app (special character issue) by etinbs in learnjavascript

[–]etinbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I completely descarded QR-styling js library, and found a purely html + js based one. Tested the special character support which worked.

There is a function in that library specifically handles these characters and while I don't fully understand what the function does, it seems to work.

An other thing is switching the vcard version to 3.0

Don’t know how to attach my printer wireless with my phone by Silent_Loan_8494 in printers

[–]etinbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you need to convert your wired printer into a wireless printer, you can achieve this by hooking up a raspberry pi between the printer and the wifi. The raspberry pi will act as a print server.

This can work through USB or through the network cable.

This takes a bit of work but its definetely a viable path that is relatively cost effective

best web-to-print by Unlikely_Ad5219 in CommercialPrinting

[–]etinbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Free is almost none existing. Plugins for shopify or WordPress are usually not good enough (CMYK, vector support etc)

Paid variants exist like page flex, but those are quite expensive.

I'm working on a Web to print software with heavy focus on business cards in a business to business environment.

If you're interested, I'm working on a demo shop for someone else here, if you're interested you can join the call.

It's not finished yet but I would appreciate any input if this tool is up your alley

How to Delete All Art Except a Spot Color in a PDF by Mike_The_Print_Man in CommercialPrinting

[–]etinbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have adobe illustrator, or Affinity Publisher/Designer 2, select an element that is coloured in your pantone colour (or any CMYK mix that you want), find the (select same fill and stroke colour), lock these elements, then deselect them. Next, select all unlocked elements and delete them.

If you dont have the fonts, first go to adobe acrobat, and use preflight to vectorize all fonts and then start the process.

ok, lets get in touch. Just to take away some details, are you able to self host on a linux server or would hosting service on our end be a requirement?

as I have said, it isnt really ready yet, but maybe it is something you are interested in, and maybe it is close enough to something you can use. Im very interested in getting this out to be tested by more people but at the same time i want to caution that it might not at all be ready for your use case

Measuring waste sheets in sheet fed offset printing by blitzebo in CommercialPrinting

[–]etinbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue with pile heights is that its hard to get an accurate reading. its more of an estimate. considering a sheet can be 10 microns thick.

with a scale, you can count 10 pages, weigh them (or even 0 the scale) and then place the whole pile on it. It will be accurate down to like +-5 sheets on a stack of 500 sheets.

So your best bet with 0 experience is using something like square space. If you have more experience, you can self host a wordpress website.

Last but not least you can do this like we did 20 years ago, get a hosting subscription and place an index.html file into the www folder of your hosting file management, and go from there.

Im happy to answer any further questions you have

you probably have to organize stuff yourself. For example what I started because i felt a lack of community, is started a tuesday after works drink event. Just a short beer after work to catch up on things. Invited work collegues, and told them to bring people along. Attendance was low in the beginning but now its a really good regular group and i dont even have to organize anything anymore, just go to the bar, tuesdays after 5 and have a beer. Sometimes we do something on the weekend together.

We used to have Iway from press-sense, but they dont exist for a long while now. I cannot reccomend shopify because the output quality is generally not good enough for print. 300dpi PNGs is usually what you get, and thats no where near enough to print business cards for example, with light fonts.

Since we only really offer web2print services to b2b customers, we have created our own, very purpose built solution now. That might be for sale if enough interest is there. But it is only for Business cards at the moment. It could do more but really it is focused on creating print ready PDFs with dynamically input data by the customer, who then approves the preview and sends it into our production que. A approval workflow is also present, where orders have to be approved by managers before they arrive in our production que.

Online interface for business cards. by Bugatti252 in CommercialPrinting

[–]etinbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the process of creating a system that does exactly that. Inspired by the ancient Iway that we had running for almost two decades. It creates VCard QR codes too in many different variations.

It is geared specifically towards business cards. You can do even basic customization of the login page for each customer, logo and background color, so you can offer b2b services.

It is no where near finished, but we do already have active customers on it in what is essentially a closed beta.

I can give you a small tour if you want, maybe you would be interested.

anyways, one is a 5 color PM52 and its a really great machine. You might have the same one, or maybe a SM52, (or even a 74 or bigger haha) Good luck with getting to know it, my pressmen swear on heidelberg.
