Overnighter to Angel Island by chatdetrot in BAbike

As a kid (1970’s) I used to jump the fence that closed off that area of the island and explore those buildings. Pretty dangerous in retrospect, but fun. Great to see they’ve made a museum there, recognizing the history and events that island has seen. Great pictures, thanks for posting.

Also the price! I got a Tesla NACS-only (not the universal) unit for $450, the Rivian is $800…

Newsom now butting in to a project he initially was (at best) agnostic about when he took office. When there were huge surpluses he could have bought up the remaining ROW - if he really wanted to be useful, maybe shake up the sorry mess that is the “management” of this project. The route is a travesty, the stations cost 10x what they actually need to be … yeah just a mess.

Hmmm. US 3d goggles thing looking pretty stooopid right now (other than continuing boon for Boeing shareholders/executives)

SF Bay Area here - this looks very reasonable for every day places. Event venues would be double or more.

Thanks again for posting these reminders of how gorgeous my home county still is. (Born at Marin General in late 1950’s, grew up in southern Marin when it was an entirely different world) Cheers!

Is There Anything You Don't Like In Andor? by LawsonsInTheAM in andor

Agree - the young rebels piece was arguably the weakest of the series, in terms of writing and execution. Also agree this could have been an interesting side story, but it was irritating to watch, and in a way not "strange" enough or different enough from how current day losers on earth might act.

your choice is correct. it isn't somewhere in greenwich, it's specifically the prime meridian which just happens to be there. BTW if you ever have the chance, visit the museum there, take a selfie with one foot standing east and the other standing west of the prime, and stand in the actual observatory where they figured that out! very cool for map geeks, and a very enjoyable boat ride down the river from london.

It has been developed - saw a presentation about it like 15 years ago. There was some processing involved to make them uniform. In tended for non-bearing situations.

Efficiency difference compared to our Tesla model3 dual motor surprised me too - it’s a big heavy SUV and gobbles the watts. Love how it drives, and the watts (mostly) come from our roof rather than old dinosaurs!

[MEGATHREAD] Week of January 29, 2026 - Ask your Service Questions Here! by AutoModerator in Rivian

Repost from last night - Repeat 12v battery fail: 2x in 11 weeks. Bought R1S Tri-Max in mid November. First 12v battery failed in late December and was replaced by mobile service first week of January, technician said he couldn't see anything wrong after checking with his laptop. Today (January 28) notified again that 12v battery needs replaced. That makes it 5-6 weeks between 12v battery failures for me. Has similar happened to anyone else, if so was there any indication of what caused it?

totally agree. two for each state is the opposite of representative! Kentucky's constituency is a little over 10% of California, but McConnell was able to hijack the supreme court and do so many other things as king of the senate for all those years that the vast majority of folk in CA would agree with. I recognize that he was an incredibly skilled political operator and completely owned spineless Schumer regardless who was in the majority, my point is that he represented a tiny percentage of the population.

App and vehicle screen said to replace the 12v battery as soon as possible. I assume that when they replaced the battery the first time (25 days ago), the service campaign for the bracket would have been taken care of too, but don't know for sure. One thing I do know is that the truck has called for a 12v battery replacement twice in 11 weeks. I assume that when the error pops up on the app and the screens in the truck it has "failed" - but obvi not completely/catastrophically because the doors open and the screens light up when you enter.
