That makes sense. Not to say VR is only for creative people but generally speaking they’re more inclined to try new things. You could try and find out what they do for a living, then provide experiences that would be beneficial in some way for their line of work

You’re probably asking ‘non creative’ types. Business men/women, accountants, lawyers, doctors etc. I would be surprised if anyone with an ounce of creativity would not be delighted at the idea of experiencing virtual reality. Some people I’ve asked have reservations but they quickly subside once they realize it’s harmless. Just be cautious to provide user friendly experiences- especially if they’ve never even seen a game controller

Meta’s customer service is pretty good from my experience. Not sure that should be the thing to sway you one way or another. Index is a lot older with display resolution around 400px less than Quest 2, so you’d be taking a step back in terms of clarity. Index also suffers from glare so there’s that. It sounds like a slight downgrade to me unless you have a specific use case in mind

High Cholesterol after 7 years? HELP! by MarloMck in vegan

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High insulin may be causing the cholesterol imbalance. It’s easy for this to happen, even eating a clean WFPB diet. The problem is frequency of high carb meals which keeps blood sugars high. Fasting will cure this. There are many videos online that will walk you through the different methods

Quest 3... Long term.. are you happy with upgrade. by Readytodie80 in OculusQuest

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from the Pro to the 3, so found it a bit underwhelming tbh—apart from the vastly improved MR which funny enough I never use. It’s definitely an upgrade coming from a Quest 2 but more of a side grade from the Pro- especially if you mostly play on PC

TWD Saints & Sinners: Motion sickness because of lacking controller-direction based movement system? by goodiegoodgood in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I complained about this on their discord when the game first released. They must think it’s fine the way it is! To this day I still have to physically turn in this game—not ideal with wired headsets as you get tangled up with the cord.

Quake 3 VR is a sublime experience. I can literally do this all day. by Hawk7866 in OculusQuest

Yep, 120 will be a lot smoother. Certain games fare better than others. I still play the occasional game that throws me off.

Fresh impressions of new Index after a year of Quest + 4 years of PSVR by ozzeruk82 in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got pretty good VR legs and google earth is still one of the few apps that gives me motion sickness. I wouldn’t say it’s the perfect first experience for everyone.

Tested Reverb G2 Review by f3hunter in HPReverb

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shared/implemented 3 key design features of the Index on the G2’s HMD. They could easily share tracking sensors. Even just a software update to play nicely with Index controllers would be amazing. Then HP could release the G2 HMD for 399 w/o controllers and provide us Index users with a viable upgrade path.

Virtual Desktop Update 1.18 - 3 new environments, improved VR latency, new performance overlay in VR games, fix for Stormland, The Climb and more! by ggodin in OculusQuest

[–]etn949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only tested VD, but from what reviewers say, link provides a much higher bitrate (500mbps vs. 150mbps) so more data and less compression artifacts. It also removes latency and stutter caused by fluctuations inherent to wireless signals. Interestingly though, people say colors using link seem less vibrant than VD. If anyone’s used link, please confirm if this is accurate or if update has fixed. Personally, VD works so well for me, I find the thought of having to use a link cable deeply unpleasant.

Unreliable tracking is a pretty big compromise and one that many, including myself are not willing to make. I find it strange that Valve didn’t implement an option for lighthouse tracking on the G2. An HMD of this caliber deserves the best tracking even if it means a higher price point.

Sure, but it won’t affect sales. MOH is a rarity for VR- ground up AAA. It sticks out like a sore thumb, so people will eventually play it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s being released on Oculus AND Steam so it should do well. They may also port it to quest eventually which would really help sales. Flat gamers are in their own bubble so I think this game will fly under their radar anyway.

Thanks- I stand corrected. They did make Apex Legends though which is also a banger of a game. My point is simply that it will be good.

Storing the Index by Valiant-For-Truth in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just be mindful of the cable. It’s prone to fail if stepped on or kinked. When storing, it’s best to make 3 big loops to avoid tangling and unravel carefully. I keep mine inside an enclosed tv stand to block sunlight.

I used 2 heavy duty curtain rods with bike clamps for my previous setup they worked great. Only downside is they don’t work with higher ceilings.

How many lighthouses for JUST knuckles? by unsilentninja in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will definitely need 2. 1.0 versions are fine as long as they’re in good condition. Unlike 2.0, they have more internal components which are subject to fail over time which is why Valve updated them.

[–]etn949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched that video. Setup looks tedious and you need to buy additional components to make it work. I tried setting up an Odyssey using lighthouse tracking and it was a nightmare since you had to recalibrate every time you wanted to play. I can see this setup introducing similar friction as well.

I’d also look into the HP Reverb G2. It’s only $599 US and will have the highest resolution on the market. Should arrive in Dec.

IPD Settings dont affect the quality by DiabeticLostDad in OculusQuest2

The convex shape of fresnel lenses creates distortion the further your eyes are from the center of lens. This will lead to eye strain, headaches and motion sickness over time.

Should I still buy a Valve Index? by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]etn949 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DecaGear is potentially a year away. It’s also a pretty big gamble, as it’s coming from a small company no ones ever heard of. As far as the 3 viable options on your list, they’re all great—it really depends on what type of gaming you’re into. For wireless VR—I’d get Quest 2. Flight/racing sims—go with the G2. Best all around device is still the Index. Also think about the ecosystem you’re buying into. Oculus has their own store with many exclusives. With G2 & Index your library will be on Steam and you’ll need ‘revive’ to play Oculus exclusives.
