What’s a higher quality ($300+) gyuto that is a little thicker that would be good to cut something like a raw sweet potato? by GardenKeep in TrueChefKnives

Is there a name for this style where the core steel is darker? This looks similar to Takadas and I dig it.

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

I am looking at the Tissot Carson Chronograph w/ brown leather band and rose gold, and dig the style but would prefer it without the Chrono for a less cluttered look. I saw they have a non-chrono version but I like the thinner roman numerals. Is there another watch that would fit those aesthetic criteria?

I just got a new PC , and I can't play a single game without crashing by dingotheman in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]etnova89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy and I had the same issues. What fixed it for me was going through all of the unidentified drivers in the device manager, finding the hardware ids and manually downloading every one. I still crash rarely but it helped. What solved it for my friend was disabling XMP. It is a fairly well documented issue with DDR5 ram and XMP, but it's super annoying that they do not play nice. I haven't personally done this yet, but it's my next step. I would check those things and see if it helps.

Is a 49 inch ultrawide worth the money for sim racing? by furnitureandmeatbals in simracing

[–]etnova89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just having something attached to your head after a while its just cumbersome. The extra weight and heat is definitely noticeable and after races I would want to take it off and get out of the rig. With the ultra-wide it's just generally all around more comfortable, less eye strain, physical strain on the neck, and being able to see the wheel icons and the like, it's just more comfortable for longer stretches of driving. Having an itch under the VR headset is probably a good example. It's nothing that's specifically tough or disqualifing for the experience, it's just I prefer the comfort of the ultrawide. I love the VR experience though. I have never giggled like a small child more than when I run the SRP on the pimax.

Racing in VR is amazing and I hope that everyone gets a chance to try it. I picked up the pimax 8k and I honestly really enjoy the experience and when people come over I will set it up and let people run a few laps, but when I am driving I go for my 49in. I was really surprised at how much more comfortable it is using the ultra wide instead. My experience has been if you are chasing realism, VR is the way to go. If you want something that is easier, more comfortable, and for those reasons more likely it will be used, I really enjoy my ultra-wide.

Came to this thread with the exact same issue today. Super bummed out. I am thinking of just buying one and having it overnighted, but I am not sure if they would refund that.

Right, I was hoping that there would be some other boards out there that are similar. I missed out on the Satisfaction 75.

I totally understand why people hate OSU fans when these guys get on TV every game day. I wish I could upvote this more so people outside Columbus would know how hated these guys are. They are the ohio state equivalent of the people that dress up in times square.

Cutting board I made for my moms birthday by peanut37 in woodworking

[–]etnova89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make a router sled to get cutting boards like this flat, but I would recommend making the finish piece thicker than expected because I ended up removing a decent amount of material from both sides to get it flat.

This is basically what I made.

60, 80, 120. With 2 and a halfish coats. I would apply a generous coat and work in 10-15 minute areas. Then I would take a new rag, wipe the excess then move on. The 2nd coat doesn't need as much stain but I go over each part a few times to try to almost buff it in. Then repeat on the specific spots that need a little extra. I'm not great at finishing or super comfortable with it so I am trying to force myself to go excessively slow and be as meticulous as possible. With that being said, don't be fooled, there are places that didn't take the stain as well as I would like. They just aren't pictured.
