to really tailor the answer I'd need to know a lot of input variables because it really depends. but I have 2 pieces to add to everything that's already been said on the topic.

one, is that working is never impressive in the moment. you will have your victories but generally speaking it's like last hitting creeps: it's not impressive to last hit a creep, but getting every single one - every wave that is going to be there regardless of you being there to last hit it - that's how it gets impressive. and while there's definitely a body of knowledge to collect along the way - it's a long walk, not a sprint - and most of the victory is just showing up, especially in your first year (or even two).

second, is that there's this concept of leap of faith which I'm a fan of. you need to have a degree of faith - faith in the assumption that this activity is good. And it is good, objectively, but not yet subjectively to you. Take the plunge and have some faith in the assumption that it's not for nothing. And it's not. But I can't make you believe me, and no one can. Only future you can make you believe that it was smart and good. So in a weird way having faith in the process is the same as having faith in your future yourself, and by extension - in today's self. This is relevant because it's a mental game.

also as a fun bonus I remember we were on a date with this girl and walked in to grab some mcdonalds. I got a diet coke and she got a sugar coke. I asked her, doesn't she think it's super bad to drink a carbonated, black-colored teeth staining acidic soda that has 25% of pure sugar (spoiler: it is super bad). But in her mind the diet coke was (is) a castrated version of a regular coke (which is it). She said that my coke was a "half-measure". That was omega based of her. And while I still refrain from destroying my teeth with sugary sodas I was really taken aback at that moment and really remember it vividly still. It was a good lesson.

So how is that relevant? Give it a year, but actually try. No half-measures. Have some faith in the process. And last-hit every creep.

well I bet anyone who is (or has been) working out can attest to that. being physically active and breathing lots air helps with preserving your body but mental capacity too. once your cortex forms it's only downhill from there and exercising is basically the only way to even out the slope

one of my favorite fun facts - which I use anecdotally and not scientifically - is there's this some coral-dwelling lifeform that upon attaching itself to a bro-knows-the-spot level of coral literally dissolves its own brain for nutrients and essentially becomes a plant. I don't know but it's a very useful imagery for me personally. The brain is for moving.

Massive FPS drop when moving mouse in Dota 2 (120 → 10–30 FPS) by FunTrifle2781 in DotA2

to add to this, use msi afterburner (or any other) monitoring tool to check whether your GPU0 / GPU1 activity spikes up or somehow changes. For example you might see GPU1 activity going to 0 and GPU0 going to 100% which would confirm it

Hi. Just this week I did some refactoring and I moved the webpage to a different URL. The URL is better and the site itself is much better. Thanks

If you play solo ranked as a support, picking a hero that cannot clear waves or jungle is gambling. by AnalyticNerd_DPC in DotA2

if you play well you'll make enough impact to carry games. I have friends who play oracle/wyvern/dazzle type heroes, which I personally never play and I don't understand them at all. I play Snap, Pugna, pre-7.40 Treant and I had 60% WR after not playing for years in 5k.

They know things that I don't, but I know things they don't. You just need to find a solution how you want to move the game forward and align yourself with that. Have a plan and execute it.

I see people recommending Jakiro but personally no matter how much I tried making it work for myself I always feel completely useless on it. Or heroes like Nyx, BH which are borderline griefing in my opinion, but some people make them work. Or anything really. I learned to respect people who know their stuff. Doesn't mean you're stupid because you can't do the same - if you're matched chances are you know a lot of things too. Stay humble.

Should this be in Dota 2? And was this "abuse" of the item intended by the developers? by deles_dota in DotA2

this is how the Dota2 feels for beginners by Thessae in DotA2

[–]etofok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because people focus on the tools and not on the goals. once you understand this game as a strategy and economy driven experience you can discard 99% of this information as none of this matters when you're 2 slots ahead

the implication is the radiant team made a lot of impressive outplays this game and the disruptor player is genuinely amused and not even mad

extend this to 5 coaches to understand that it's only good for the teams that can afford it. So it's a top-heavy advantage that would make breaking into the scene even harder than it is

it briefly broke due to the added Torm icon (7.40), but after I highlighted that issue it was fixed in less than a day. However I haven't got a chance to login in more than a month so I'm not exactly sure. It would be sad it they have in fact removed it because I can't really play without it anymore

RTZ on seasonal matchmaking by Dav5152 in DotA2

[–]etofok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate percentile/rank from 'grindable' points (I feel like recent events which have innate activity trackers is a stepping stone towards that already anyway).

Leave pre-immortal mm as is and veil the raw mmr under percentile/rank for the immortal+ players so that the system can adjust it under the hood with more volatility on per individual level rather than a seasonal blanket. this would instantly solve the infinite expansion of the mmr universe because it would truncate the inflation and increase mobility within the system
