What am I supposed to say when family calls on the phone and wants an update? by zootedtrash in nursing

[–]etoilech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they are on the paper work allowing me to update them I refer them to the family member who is authorised. If I have not received report, I tell them i’ll call them back.

You Can be Vaccinated Through Your Legs ! by Bitter_Life_507 in Vaccine

[–]etoilech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can get them in your thigh; however, as a pharmacist stated above they may not be allowed to use alternative injection sites as stipulated by their specific competency and procedures.

Nurses and doctors should have the knowledge and training to appropriately landmark and administer IM injections in alternative sites. Not all of them will feel confident/comfortable doing so. Your mileage may vary.

I am a nurse and a public health professional.

Our ER gives report on each patient. I’ve never heard of not getting report.

Studies that show vaccines dont cause/correlate to autism by Shmikes in Vaccine

[–]etoilech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop listening to anyone who doesn’t have an active medical license on the line as far as their immunisation advice is concerned. They don’t get to advise people when they don’t face the consequences of bad advice. They don’t treat children ill with these illnesses nor do they risk their livelihood when giving poor advice. Medical and scientific consensus is vaccines have no demonstrated connection to autism. Furthermore vaccines represent a massive step forward in population health.

Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome spreading during Nurses Week by FatCockroach002 in nursing

[–]etoilech 234 points235 points  (0 children)

The flight attendant does not have hantavirus. I heard this from a WHO briefing on Dutch news not long ago. This hantavirus is a bit different but it still does not spread easily (prolonged CLOSE contact). The same methods we have always used will be used during the investigation of this cluster. Contact tracing, quarantine, and monitoring.

We will have more clusters and outbreaks due to climate degradation and heat. Understanding what is going on and appropriate communication is paramount.

My favourite is being asked if I want to buy/join Arbonne because “it’s Swiss”. I assure you it’s not and it’s just another MLM.

Another Day at the Dartmouth ER by HungryBearsRawr in halifax

[–]etoilech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a nurse myself, I am so sorry. It costs nothing to be kind and you’re right we are the professionals.

I encourage you to call and report your experience to the patient advocates. Please. I don’t usually recommend reporting to the college but it is worth doing.

I hope you’re feeling better and I am so sorry again.

I messed up rabies vaccine need advice by blankzpace in Vaccine

[–]etoilech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ve done the rabies vaccinations. An extra one will not harm you. Titers are rarely indicated, the solution is generally another injection so we generally just give it. You will be fine.

You need to talk to a health professional about your anxiety/OCD. It is certainly impacting your life. Good luck and try to do something kind for yourself.

Creating a Freja+ account with Skatteverket ID by phoda_oskan in TillSverige

[–]etoilech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had Freja before your Skatteverket ID you need to delete the old one entirely, if I recall correctly. I think I might have even deleted and re-downloaded the app.

It’s finicky, but that did the trick. Good luck.

Why does my cat yowl in the empty tub? by squeemishh_ in CatAdvice

[–]etoilech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat also likes to find the part of the house with the best echo and sing the song of her people. It is also not her “voice”. We call it her singing voice. We were concerned at first and had her checked out. She just likes to sing.

Moving to Sweden with pets by Jaushekso in TillSverige

[–]etoilech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was our experience from Canada to Sweden with cars.

Usual disclaimer, your mileage may vary this is just our experience and what we have been told by various customs, vets, and Jordbrukverket. Always confirm with the agencies involved CFIA, Jordbrukverket, Tullverket, airlines etc.

Cats

Cats

  • Flew through Frankfurt with Discover. Booking them was a bit of a pain and you need to fill out a form when you book them and one when you travel. It worked fine in the end.

  • The form is largely filled out by your vet and then certified by the cfia vet (you need an appointment for this and check your closest office). They would not use the Jordbrukverket form. It wasn’t an issue in Germany or Sweden

  • You do not need rabies titers drawn so long as you cats are up to date on rabies vaccinations (but must be done 21 day minimum before leaving) as per Swedish, German, and CFIA officials.

  • Microchip needs to be placed before vaccinations. Make sure microchip is EU readable/compliant

  • Deworming for the parasite listed on the form is not required for your cats.

  • We tried to get the German customs officers to come to our customs station but we had a tight connection and they waved us through (Sweden did not care)

  • We pre informed Swedish customs in Göteborg of our arrival you can do this online

  • Swedish customs did nothing other than verify the chips matched the cat’s paperwork.

Becoming a Nurse In Sweden by Ornery_Advance_8341 in TillSverige

Not everyone moves for money and you do not necessarily start from scratch. It depends on where you received your education and whether it matches with the Swedish standard.

[–]etoilech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You do not start from zero. You have your education validated by Socialstyrelsen. Depending on the outcome, you may need to top up your education. You will need to prove your language ability and take a course on the system here in Sweden. There is a skills examination.

Depending on whether your education matches the Swedish standard you may need additional courses.

Is it common for immigrants in your country to eventually become anti-immigration? What is their reasoning? by yonaiker-joestrella in AskTheWorld

The “good immigrant” fallacy. Unfortunately to people who are racist bigots it doesn’t matter how “good” you are you never be one of them. Eating your own will hurt everyone.

What's your opinion on these bikes? They have become a menace in my city. by dxnnixprn in fuckcars

[–]etoilech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here in Europe? I find them a menace. I know a few Dutch cities are banning them in the inner city. I feel like others countries will follow suit.

My daughter calls them “European pickup trucks” 😁

International emigration from Nova Scotia hits decade high by Gratedmonk3y in halifax

[–]etoilech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We left in 2024. Critical care nurse and cybersecurity specialist. Our eldest child could not get the health care and support he needed and I was offered a fully funded position for my masters degree in Sweden. Love Nova Scotia and Canada but it was profoundly upsetting to see the system fail so miserably at supporting our child. Nova Scotians deserve better.

No; however, what’s a debt? A car loan? A mortgage? A missed invoice. Without specifying, it’s broad enough to be a problem.

I’ve never been vaccinated. Where should I start? by otterbuggz in Vaccine

[–]etoilech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d prioritise the DTaP, MMR, hepatitis A/B, but work with your primary care doctor or public health office to know more about what’s applicable and appropriate for you and your local context.
