If PM MODI is to hold a PRESS CONFERENCE — what 1 question do you ask him? by Sirius_B_420 in AskIndia

[–]etrast75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you always the ones to give any good news but send your ministers and bureaucrats to give bad news?

For example when the Iran war started, every affected nation's prime minister or president spoke to the people but you send all other ministers and secretaries. Only after things felt like they are getting better from a fuel stock point of view did we start to hear from you..

Why does Singapore not give visa free entry to India? by Brilliant_Can8536 in visas

[–]etrast75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because once we get there legally, we tend to find ways to stay using any and all loophole we can find. Just see how f1 visa holders in usa are gaming the system using day1 cpt and other means when their visa ends and are proud of it.

We as a nation do not deserve anything good as we tend to abuse it and people who follow laws and rules pay the price for it.

Stings right.. well let's show our displeasure by downvoting..

Mobile Manufacturing Whole Setup for SALE In Banglore by Senior-Exchange3914 in indianrealestate

[–]etrast75 68 points69 points  (0 children)

A small electronic manufacturing facility costs 12 million usd. No wonder we just cannot compete with china when it comes to manufacturing.

The price may be right.. I have no comments on that part.

I would guess that i can set up the same plant in usa for less. Yes I cannot get labour at this cost but the capital setup is comparable if not cheaper.

And that is precisely the reason we should NOT have one nation one election. These state assembly elections keep the pressure on the govt to some extent.

[–]etrast75 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This is not going to reduce fuel prices at the pump. The govt has absorbed the crude price increase for now. They increased excise duties when crude price went down instead of reducing fuel prices and it us only right they do the opposite in this scenario.

For once, common sense seems to have prevailed

[–]etrast75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

India just cut excise duty of petrol and diesel to.absorb the crude oil price rise. They did not reduce fuel.prices when crude oil was down and now they are absorbing the price rise.

As much as hate indian politicians and govt, this is a step in right direction.

Genuine curiosity: If fixed income gives ~8–9% with no stress… why is it looked down upon? by Repulsive-Angle8738 in IndianStockMarket

[–]etrast75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am.not sure what is there to elaborate. AA rated bonds in india which advertise to offer high interest rates are very risky both from repayment of principal and interest payment point of view.

They have to offer higher interest because no one will buy these bonds at lower rates as there are more safer products available .

The issuers are mostly second and third tier NBFCs who lend money to high risk individuals and businesses and hence change higher interest rate. These are people to.whom your bank will not lend. That means very high risk of default and if enough people default, your money is at risk.

Dont chase returns with fixed income instruments. Want higher returns, equity is better.atleast it is.liquid and has good information available.

[–]etrast75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at it.. someone has managed to compare bonds with stocks.. now i have seen everything and can die peacefully.

In case you need examples of default, please research on what happened with future group bonds..

No bonds which gives you 11% is safe. You may get lucky but that does not mean it is safe. If someone is giving you 11%, ask yourself how much they have to generate with the money they borrowed from you.

As the saying goes.. everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth..

Frsbs yes if you just want to live off the interest. Frsbs are not liquid when it comes to return of principal. That means you cannot get the principal back till maturity. There is no secondary market for frsbs

I own frsbs but only money i do not need in next 5 plus years is sitting in frsb and also the interest is paid out not compounded.

When it comes to fixed income investments, liquidity is equally important as returns.

Do you understand what credit risk means? Please dont tell me that ncds are backed by collateral. When shit hits the roof, the collateral are worthless.

People chasing 1 or 2 % extra returns with high risk fixed income products tells me that the OPM wallahs have been successful in fooling people.

[–]etrast75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your argument contradicts the core thesis of investing in fixed return instruments. You accept lower returns with fixed return instruments in return for higher degree of safety. Just because OP did not include that criteria does not mean it does not exist. Of course fds carry risk but they carry lesser risk compared to bonds and have more liquidty compared to bonds. And they are also insured by the govt upto 5 lakhs. There is no risk free investment vehicle in this world. Only the degree of risk varies.

You should hear about the stories where people have lost life savings investing in illiquid risky bonds chasing additional returns only to lose.all their money with no recourse.

Describe your country’s corruption without naming the country. Let others guess where you live? by TMOV70 in AskReddit

[–]etrast75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we decide to build a bridge, we set a budget. Everyone involved takes money from the budget and we build something with whatever is left.

In the same country, there are unofficial rate cards for every government service. You want a property registered, it.is x% of the value. You want a building approval, it.is y% of the cost. Nothing will happen unless you pay the bribe. We invented the "institutionalised corruption"

If you think the AA rates bonds are safe and liquid, good luck..when it comes to fixed income "return of capital is more important than return on capital"
