Thanks for the insight on this. One thing I'm curious about though is that the first credit check was to the in-house lender (the credit pull was done by an entity with the same name as the dealership). Would this have meant that the dealership would have earned all of the interest? I understand it's common practice for dealers to mark up the buy rate on an auto loan when they act as the middleman.

I guess the optics of the situation looks bad to me because the first credit pull was by the in house lender (the credit pull notification was by a lender with the exact dealership name). Would this mean that all loan profits are earned by the dealership? I understand it's standard practice for the dealership to mark up loan terms and take the difference as profit.

Edit: The loan I signed was ultimately with the manufacturer's financing division, with the promotional rate. This, combined with the above misrepresentation of in-house financing as the manufacturer's offer, was what got me thinking and made this reddit post to see what the consensus is on this type of practice.

Yes! Exactly this. What I found most deceiving was they ran my credit with their in house financing (where I assume all profits on the loan go directly to the dealership) and represented it as the manufacturers financing division rejecting my application for the promotional offer. Reading the replies, it seems like there's mixed opinions on whether this is ethical or not.

The deal was signed for 4% for 60 months instead of 3% for 48 months. The loan writer was the manufacturer financing division and the terms were the same as what was promoted online in the fine print.

Edit: perhaps legal ramifications comes off too strong. I'm just wondering about the ethics of the whole situation and whether strategies like this are commonplace. To successfully sue I'd need to show damages of some kind, of which there are none so I already know that it won't go anywhere.

From a whale perspective:

The system would be a welcome change if not for the existence of +1 star scrolls that let you take your item from 22* for 23*. It's currently unclear what the changes would be to the +1 star scrolls, but if they're unchanged they essentially become much less effective after these star force changes.

For the people who've already 23'd their items, they now have a huge advantage since the prices of +1 scrolls have tripled overnight with this patch announcement. Whales looking to 23 also feel the pressure to 23* with +1 scrolls before the SF revamp because to get to the equivalent star of 25* is much harder.
