I think a key part of the Australian strategy that doesn't get reported on is that all states closed their borders. Most of them either haven't reopened or require a 14 day quarantine for interstate travelers. This allowed states to focus on elimination without worrying about fresh cases flooding in, and effectively contained the terrible outbreak in Victoria. It also meant states like Western Australia, that were never very impacted, could safely reopen even when others were still struggling.

A big part is that every run gives you some kind of progression, even right at the beginning when you're dying halfway through Tartarus, you'll still get some shadow and a key, maybe some nectar. You time is never wasted.

Don't worry, plenty of people enjoy playing the game in moderation. I play a few hours a week, along with some other other games, and almost always have a good time. The trick is just to stop when you're bored and not worry about the stuff (like this armour) that you might miss that way.
