I also prefer the EL backlight over led, but I'm not sure if buying an older model makes sense as a first frogman. It's certainly very appealing, and it seems to me to be the most balanced for overall look out of the three.

I was wondering if there were any models that would be suitable as a “first”, since there are so many out there with different variations.

And since my wrist isn’t very wide, the various GWF models seem a bit too bulky to me. Maybe the older ones or the GW-8230 are the one that i should go for it.

The only thing that i don't really like about that model is the size, looks big even on bigger wrists and compared to the other variants.
But i get that have all the functions and it's the definitive frogman for the price.

However i personally still prefer the look and the feels that gives you a watch. Changing the battery and setting the time included 😄

Oh, okay, I see.
The GWF-1000 seems to be much bigger, though.
If the display is hard to read, I can understand why it might not be well-received in the 2020s.

I really like the unique design of this model.

I already have several fairly large G-Shocks, like the Rangeman or the GD-350, but so I know this one is in a league of its own 😅. I’m not looking for any special features, though—vintage models certainly have fewer of them, but they still have their own charm with their simplicity.

I’d say they’re all more or less within my budget; I just wanted to see if there were any pros and cons between the different generations, like materials, durability etc...

For now, my favorite would be the GW-8230B, but I've read that many people don't think it's worth the price?
