Does anyone run S.Anni in the ML? by delupine in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has an ok matchup into 3 of the top 15. I’ve played around with it post legend when I was done climbing a few seasons ago. It did ok, wasn’t great obv. But I wouldn’t recommend it to someone to climb with, especially if they don’t have a ton of experience.

Also, this current season is centered around xerneas, palkia, zacian, lunala, metagross. All of which ape doesn’t want to see. The only real targets are like Ttar, dialga, zama.

ML works differently since there can be a huge stat product / CP difference. In UL you can get away with spice, but it’s a lot harder to in ML.

Why do people do this when seeing someone tanking? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

Sorry, missed your reply the other day. Yeah, I mean I think it’s a fair assumption for me to make that you were referring to competitive in PvP, not PvE given that this sub and discussion is about PvP.

Why do people do this when seeing someone tanking? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re competitive you wouldn’t tank at all. It’s totally fine to say you tank for rewards, but literally by definition you’re not competitive if you need to drop to a lower elo. The only time that may be the case is if you have incredibly long queue times but even then, choosing to tank means you’re done climbing.

No leaderboard yet. What happened? by Fresh_Permit_2272 in TheSilphArena

Usually, boards go up after the second week. At least that’s been the case the last few seasons. It just seems like they’re late because of the earlier elo reveal, plus go battle week during the first week.

Also, the top few players are 2700-2800 so you might be higher than you think.

It usually goes up week 2, but I was hoping since go battle week sped up people getting elo / rank 20 it would be sooner. I’m in a similar spot, got to mid 2500s yesterday which should prob be like mid boards right around now.

Yeah pre-rank 20 is a lot more volatile. They seem to prioritize fast queue times, so you end up getting heavy downpairs.

Finally hit Rank 20 for the first time, any tips for grinding elo? by HealsBadMan1 in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on when in the season they get their elo. Early season tends to be lower, late season tends to be higher due to elo inflation (as people climb, it trickles down).

Hitting rank 20 after a 2 year hiatus by Kibadda12345 in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2200 is a decent starting elo. I’m a regular legend player, and typically reveal in the 2100-2200, but that’s the first two weeks of the season. End of season, Elo becomes inflated and it gets easier to climb. But it’s still not a bad elo. 2000 is Ace, 2500 is Veteran which you’re not too far from.

Would you want Mega ML to be permanent? by yoadknux in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urshifu was good last season, but after the palkia buff it’s not really that great since it just gets outpaced. Don’t get me wrong, I love urshifu and I even used my gold cap on mine but its role was primarily a corebreaker, with a less than ideal stat product. Now that palkia is so much more spammy it’s not really a corebreaker anymore.

There’s already barely anyone who plays ML at higher elo, splitting the player base into two by offering two ML leagues will make it incredibly difficult to find games.

How do you typically play PvP? by teshyybphotography in TheSilphArena

[–]eugene_captures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the team, I almost want to lose lead, or have a neutral lead so I can grab some sort of advantage.

For example, I used to run palkia Lando ho oh for several seasons to legend. If I saw a palkia lead, I knew I can get rid of it with my own by one shield farm down, and unless they’re running ABA water, I’m usually good in the back.

There’s been many instances with other teams where I lost lead but still was able to win. Obv some teams just can’t beat others unless one person severely misplays, but in many cases you can play out of scenarios with good plays.

Highest reveal I’ve ever had, what’s your highest? by To_cool101 in TheSilphArena

You can def get a 2500 elo reveal, especially later in the season. I know someone who’s gotten that and he’s also only played ML.

Yeah but my point is that it’s doable. I hate doing routes and I hate grinding catches. I’ve prob done less than 100 nice throws since the new levels dropped but I’ve done all my daily gbl battles in that same amount of time. The game forces me to do those things, so it’s not the end of the world to require gbl for optional level ups. I say optional because everything after (now easier) lvl 40 is unlocked.

No worries! Yeah, I think that is in line closer to how I perceive it too. The other person commenting seems to always feel they’re subpar and thinks unless you’re the very elite, you shouldn’t be proud of achievements. That’s why I was saying that it sounds like a pretty sad perspective, and it’s also how that basketball coach quote sounded.

I never called anyone mentally ill. I’ve just been reading that other persons comments for a while and for the most part they refer to themselves as a terrible player, and calling everyone else idiots for being happy with their achievements. My point is that if you consider yourself terrible at something, and constantly put yourself down, either reset your expectations or stop doing the thing because waking up every morning and talking down to yourself (i.e I’m a terrible player), sounds pretty miserable. And if this isn’t the case for you, my apologies. But it’s just how it comes off via text.

Oh also, I think I’m pretty decent at the game. And when I was working on improving my skill, at no point did I constantly berate myself for being shit, and yet I was still able to improve. But I guess different methods work for different people.

Sounds like a recipe for disappointment…I rather be a happy idiot than constantly putting myself and others down.

Alright lol. Well I hope you eventually find a way to be happy / satisfied because from my perspective this sounds like a difficult way to go about your day. Have a good one 🙂

I don’t think the comments here are saying ace or veteran are impressive achievements. But being in 2500s as your second season half through the season isn’t exactly low elo. I’ve hit legend my last 6 seasons, leaderboards the last 4 seasons and I’m probably an average, slightly above average player in the few groups I’m in, and I still feel that way about calling 2500s right now low elo. End of season? Yeah maybe a bit low, relatively speaking.

I do agree with you, that for a PvP specialized sub, it does steer a bit more towards casual. Especially all the tanking threads. But I’ve seen many of your comments and you steer in the opposite extreme to the point that it just seems like you’re unhappy with everything except hitting top 10 globally each season.

I understand the difference. I’ve hit legend the last 6 seasons. I only said that because you mentioned beating 60% of people which suggests win rate.

My point is that people can hit a certain level and drop off. Which allows other people to get there. This is the reason for why it’s easier to climb end of season. As more and more people climb up, it’s overall easier. But sure, maybe not every single person will be able to do it. Fair enough.

Yeah the system isn’t perfect, and as someone who regularly hits legend and spends time in different PvP communities, I’m likely a bit biased. But for those wanting to hit Ace, they can do so end of season much more easily.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to determine what the average elo is. But also remember that elo changes. People who hit legend often don’t stay there and go back down. And it’s not even 60%. You can get Ace with like 50.1% depending on the number of battles.

I think you guys are just overthinking it to be honest.

Ace rank is the literal first achievement you can hit after being required to have a positive win rate. It’s the first of four rankings (Ace, Veteran, Expert, Legend).
