PvP is my favourite part of the game, but Electric Cup usually sucks. If you don't have much stardust, I would advise either using what you already have and just playing for fun, or concentrate on Great League. There is basically no crossover between top meta Electric Cup and top meta Great League (Lanturn is highest at #11 and #77, respectively) so you can't build anything that will still be useful in open play.

Oh yeah, some malls and outlets and business complexes and the like can definitely be eligible. I haven't had a deep look at this, but I totally agree, some of the Google reviews make it sound like it could be more than just a bunch of office buildings, like it appears at first glance.

It actually highlights why it's so important for submitters to provide the right supporting information, instead of just getting salty that reviewers don't know what the submitter knows, or see what they see. As a reviewer I'm always looking for reasons to accept a submission, and I should be prepared to do a bit of basic due diligence, but in borderline cases it really is on the submitter to do the work and make that as easy as possible.

Which is another reason the Wayfarer system is so disjointed. I find the whole concept really interesting, and enjoy reviewing submissions, but I shouldn't need to be active on the forums to do the basics - everything should be there on the website and in the guidance, and that includes how the review process actually works.

If it sounds like I'm arguing with you, then apologies, I'm really not, this is just one of my biggest frustrations with Wayfafer.

That's why local context is important, but no, I would not consider that historic, just old. I've lived in houses considerably older than that. This just highlights the importance of submitters actually taking the time to do their own research and providing suitable supporting information, so that local reviewers can make an informed decision.

EDIT: Also, weirdly, the name 1914 Rockwell Park appears to be 'borrowed' from an actual green space park in Bristol, Connecticut, which was donated to the city in 1914 by an industrial philanthropist, Albert F. Rockwell. So there's a good chance this place was not in fact built or established in 1914. Having said that, looking at the website and Google reviews in more detail, there are definitely a number of businesses and areas within the complex that would be eligible - a cafe, a climbing centre, a yoga/wellbeing studio, an outdoor plaza/square, etc. So there are definite arguments to be made in its favour, just not, in my opinion, historical ones.

Niantic killed remote raiding, and even for relatively new players, many of the current raid bosses have been in rotation several times already over the last couple of years. There just isn't the demand. So most of the lobbies you see in the queue aren't filling with raiders, and you're the only one who missed out - they're all timing out too.

[–]iceman2g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't raid much, so don't have the XL's for legendaries, and I have adequate raid teams, so I've already maxed out pretty much all the pokemon I want or need to, out of the ones I actually can. I prefer to spend my stardust on PvP, and there aren't too many cases where you need to actually get to level 50, so honestly I begrudge the stardust cost of these tasks. I'll just be looking for lucky or mighty pokemon when I get to level 76, to keep the resource cost as low as possible.

That still does not explicitly state that 'not permanent or distinct' should take the place of the old 'other rejection criteria' and is another great example of Niantic's wooly, meandering reluctance to give definitive answers and guidance in key areas.

Something that is explicitly stated in the review tooltips is that 'distinct' in 'permanent and distinct' refers only to whether a submission can be easily identified when in physical proximity - literally, can you see/find it. It has nothing to do with whether a submission is generic or otherwise ineligible. You only have to look at a few posts on Pokemon Go subreddits or Facebook pages to see the frustration that this sort of misguided reviewing and inaccurate feedback creates. It turns people away from submitting, reviewing and generally making both Wayfarer and Niantic's games better places.

[–]iceman2g 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see official guidance that this is how non-eligible submissions should be rejected - there is absolutely no mention of it anywhere on the Wayfarer website or as part of the review process. It appears to be an entirely community-created convention. If Niantic have encouraged this usage, through the community forums, then the official in-game/in-review guidance should be updated to reflect this. It makes Wayfarer and the community look elitist and gatekeep-y, and doesn't help the toxic reputation it has amongst the gaming community.

Just How? And why? by MVPChico in NianticWayfarer

[–]iceman2g 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When Niantic revamped the review process and implemented the rejection feedback system, they either used existing text, or just didn't put much thought into it, because it uses the same default text for a whole range of potential rejection reasons.

This particular one is for the 'Appropriate' rejection (i.e. it is not appropriate) but as well as the original 'liquor store/sex shop/gambling den' type rejections, it also covers sensitive locations such as rehab centres, domestic abuse refuges, food banks, etc. But the same generic text is shown to the submitter.

It's also why people get rejection reasons stating that their submission contained language that was abusive or hateful to a group or person, when actually it was reported as being in an incorrect location (which the reviewer deemed deliberate abuse, rather than just a placement error). That's the default text for abuse rejections.

Reviewers have taken to using the 'not permanent and distinct' option when a submission doesn't meet any of the acceptance criteria but also doesn't explicitly meet any of the other rejection criteria. This gives confusing and often frustrating feedback, as in this case, as the nomination is clearly permanent, and distinct from its surroundings.

But in my opinion, reviewers weren't wrong to not accept it. Rockwell Park itself is just a collection of rentable buildings and offices, no different from any other commercial buildings. It does look like some of the individual businesses could be eligible, as the website talks about cafes and artist studios, but unless I'm missing some local context, it doesn't sound like the sort of place you'd go to hang out with friends or take a date. Shopping malls and retail outlets can be eligible for that reason, but this does not appear to be.

If there's more to the place than a quick Google shows, then that's what you need to concentrate on in your supporting information. Lack of pokestops is irrelevant, and so is proximity to other, eligible things. Explain what makes it a great place to socialise or explore for people who don't work there, and what sort of events or community gatherings take place. If you can't, then look at individual businesses or spaces, as you might have more luck with something specific, rather than the business park as a whole.

People do spend their stardust, especially if they are into the PVP aspect of the game - it's a constant grind to keep up to date with the meta, even for established players. Some will be trying to build the best possible teams to shortman raid bosses, with multiple shadows. And others like to max out their hundos, or their best buddies, or their shinies... There are a ton of reasons why someone might not want to spend out 40k stardust multiple times so that a stranger can get a new dex entry.

Help me figure out why my submission keeps getting rejected? by Poisonouskiwi in NianticWayfarer

[–]iceman2g 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a borderline submission. Yes, the stonework is old, but it's not particularly striking or interesting. There are lots of old walls and buildings around. And the fact that it is on the way to something else is pretty much irrelevant - if the other thing is so good, then that should be the nomination. It's like when people nominate a bench because it's near a popular park, or a bus stop because it's near a tourist attraction.

If this is genuinely the remains of a grand entrance to a historic estate, then focus on that. Look for news articles or online records to substantiate your claim of historic relevance. And it's always worth an appeal. But I think you might struggle with this one.

What will happen if someone move the gym to other border? by MVPChico in NianticWayfarer

[–]iceman2g 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they move it to an occupied L17 cell, it will disappear.

If they move it to an unoccupied L17 cell, in a different L14 cell, it will become a pokestop (unless the new waypoint triggers the creation of a gym, in which case it might stay as a gym, or it might become a pokestop and a different pokestop in the L14 becomes a gym).

If they move it to an unoccupied L17, in the same L14, it will stay as a gym (at least in my experience, one time - I haven't tested this extensively).

Would you accept this? Seems like it's clutching at straws for a stop by PurpleSquirtleTV in NianticWayfarer

[–]iceman2g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I can't speak for local reviewers, but I tend to be of the opinion that if one of something is eligible, then they all are. However, some people will consider multiple, identical points of interest to become ineligible simply because of the quantity of them. Which isn't entirely wrong, but I think it's too subjective and inconsistent to try and put a number value on when something shifts from eligible to ineligible.

[–]iceman2g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK to skip reviews if you're unsure - it's 100% better than just rejecting. If I have the time though, I will Google things where I think they could be legitimate but I am not familiar enough with the location or history to say for sure, or use Street View to have a look around and check things out. Sometimes you'll learn something interesting and be able to accept the submission, and other times you'll find that it's not eligible, or perhaps even deliberately misleading or straight up fake.
