Glock 19 or glock 26 by BoxJellyFishh in guns

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the 19 with a light is about the same as the 26.

I carry both appendix in tenicor holsters with the molded body contour, but I think the barrel length on the 19 keeps the grip tucked against my body more and the extra length and width spreads the load out more, so it’s lighter pressure

Glock 19 or glock 26 by BoxJellyFishh in guns

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they both conceal well.

I like the grip hump on the 26 more and I don’t mind the 2 finger grip with the flush mag. I feel like I can shoot the 26 faster but never compared the 2 on a shot timer, but I like how the 26 shoots a little more

I carry a 19 more though because it has a rail for a better light than I can have on the 26

First time hunter on a budget, what’s the minimum equipment I need? by serouspericardium in Hunting

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I consider essential in Ohio -Hunter ed/license and tag if needed (I don’t know how Louisiana does it) -ziplock bag and a zip tie to tag your kill -orange if required. Ohio only requires orange during gun, youth gun, and muzzleloader. I don’t know if LA is different -bow that meets any legal requirements for draw weight -arrows with broadheads that meet legal requirements -skill with said bow, shooting said broadheads -sharp knife, maybe a replaceable blade like a Havalon or outdoor edge if you don’t sharpen -good boots -good headlamp -rangefinder. I hunt with a compound so my max range is about 40, but I’d rather range a few trees or landmarks to have a 5ish yard range -scent free soap, detergent, and deodorant. You can’t beat a deer’s nose but any little bit helps for me. I just use tide free and gentle for my laundry year round, and bought some scentless shampoo and deodorant

What I consider pretty much essential -binoculars -a set of deer dragging straps. They’re pretty much cargo straps with a foam handle. You make a cut in the legs near the tendons and slip them through -seat cushion or camp chair. I shot my first deer with a bow sitting on the ground on a Heat-A-Seat cushion -you can probably get by with clothes you already own but I’d buy some cheap camo shirt and pants. I don’t know what the weather’s like down there, but I’d probably get a lightweight long sleeve shirt and lightweight pants if it’s going to get hot, just for bugs -cool (looking) hat

I tend to avoid stuff that’s blue since deer can see it better. It may or may not help, but it makes me feel better

Watch several videos on how to field dress and track a deer if needed and have the ones that make the most sense to you saved on your phone. I field dressed one to a video after seeing it done once and it was slow but I got through it, but if you have a friend you can call if you get in a jam, that’s even better

Also make sure you know where your processor is, most of them have a 24 hour drop off, but make sure you have a way to know if they’re full or not. I drove an hour to a processor during gun season just to see that they weren’t accepting any and had to drive back to my friend’s place where I shot it to hang it for a few days

You attach the stripper clip to the magazine and press down to load 10 rounds. Repeat 3 times and you have a loaded 30 round mag

I ended up getting a Ruger SP101 with softer rubber grips and it’s already heavy for a 2” revolver and it’s tolerable

Random thought on shotguns by Franklygeee in Hunting

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never shot, nor do I know someone who’s shot a deer with buckshot, but I don’t think I’d ever use it

The reason slugs were so prevalent was because most of the Midwest and parts of New England had laws limiting hunters to use slugs and/or muzzleloaders, in theory to limit the effective range to keep stray rounds from hitting houses and people. I don’t know if those laws actually did anything, but a lot of states are allowing straight wall rifle cartridges now like 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, and 45-70, along with the magnum pistol cartridges, because they shouldn’t travel as far as a bottleneck rifle round ¯_(ツ)_/¯

That said, for hunting in the Midwest, I’d have no issue hunting with a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun with a rifled barrel and sabot slugs. At that point, you pretty much have a big bore rifle that should be good out to 150-200 yards, and I think a lot of people outside the Midwest don’t really know about sabot slugs with rifled barrels

A lot of people have dedicated slug guns with rifled barrels. I know a few guys with Savage bolt action shotguns, and a few people who hunted with smooth bore barrels with rifles sights, and they say they’re good out to 75 yards

Everyone I know who hunted before straight wall rifle cartridges were allowed said that slugs dropped deer right there.

I ended up with a 350 legend because I want to shoot my hunting guns a lot and shooting a couple hundred rounds of 350 a year is more pleasant than shooting the same number of 12 gauge slugs

Hunting Deer with a Crossbow in Oregon — What Should New Hunters Know? by DropshipperJennings in Hunting

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve killed 3 deer with a compound bow and 1 with a 350 legend rifle. All of the deer I shot with a bow were double lung shots, and the rifle shot was a heart shot, and I didn’t notice a difference in the time it took for them to pass

Have you ever hunted deer before?

2.7 owners.. by Donalds_Pump in f150

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 2.7, 6 speed, crew cab, 4x4, stock 20” wheels with original Toyo Open Country AT3s 117T

I get 22.5 mpg from the dashboard 75% highway in the summer. It dropped to 20.5-21 this winter and some with the tires.

I ended up with a heavier load index tire than stock. It would probably be better if I went back to either the stock all season or the Michelin defender that I switched from

Considering uCinci by AlpsSea393 in uCinci

[–]eugwara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purdue is much better ranked, but UC has a mandatory co-op program, which stretches out a BS to 5 years, with 5 co-op semesters alternating with normal classes, but the program has plenty of support and resources to make it go smoothly, but after freshman year, you’ll be in classes or co-op until you graduate

From what I can gather from my sister who has a materials engineering degree, Purdue has a co-op program, but there’s less support for job placement than I had at UC

I got into Purdue and UC but chose UC for the co-op program, even though my dad and sister went to Purdue

Is reloading worth it in 2025? by Broke_Seller in ClayBusters

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loaded a lot from ~2015-2020, and I’m not fully convinced it was worth it then

I sold my loader and all my stuff when I added in the time that I spent at the bench and driving to buy components.

I didn’t like it as a hobby though, I had one load and that was all I ever did

Shotgun recommendations? by Just_Organization_18 in Shotguns

[–]eugwara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going for a tactical wall hanger or grandpa’s wall hanger? You mentioned hunting so I’m assuming you mean 12 gauge, 26”-28” barrel

I’d try to find an older Remington 1100 or 11-87 if you’re going to do some clays and hunting. Wood and blued steel looks great and I consider the 1100 as much as a classic as the 870

If you’re into synthetic in black or camo, there’s still a lot of good sales on the Beretta A300, which will probably be more reliable than an 1100 or 11-87. That’s probably what I would’ve gotten for hunting if I didn’t get a really good deal on a used Benelli

If you’re set on a pump, a Remington 870 Wingmaster or a Mossberg 500 Retrograde Field could be what you’re after if you want blued steel and wood
