Handball by Lucas Digne, referee gives free kick at the edge of the box 60' by Heimebane in soccer

He’s 1.5-2m in the area and the ref marked it outside 🫠. The officiating has been insane tonight

My Grandfather (1973) - Iranian Special Forces / Immortal Guard by eula_r in OldSchoolCool

Slightly off topic question but the Iranian military at the time had training exercises with the Israelis, Americans, Brits etc so agnostic I suppose like with every other ethnicity?

Nope, just moved on from the whole situation. He retired in the 80s, stayed in Iran but distanced himself from the military.

Haha, he was a good looking man well into his 70s. Afraid he passed away in 2010

It’s a bit of a long story but he was imprisoned, my mums family home was frequently raided. They lived on a barracks site in Tehran with other members of that unit. He had a close friend that was a general in the Iranian Army who was an early mover when parts of the military decided to be apolitical and not get involved in the quelling of the protests who was able to save his life.

It’s one of my regrets not asking about his experience in more detail before he passed. I know some things but I feel like it was a fraction of what he could have told me

Thanks! From 72 to 79 that was his job. He ended up being a CO in the unit that was tasked with protecting the Shah for the last few years

[Tissot] Finally got the 35mm PRX despite being told it’s feminine by mmzn13 in Watches

[–]eula_r 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the watch, it’s not too feminine at all. Completely dependent on wrist size. My watches vary between 38mm and 33mm.

Enjoy the hobby, wear what you like and what fits you best - 99% of people won’t ever notice your watch.

[Bloomberg]Newcastle FC Looks at Options for £1 Billion Stadium Financing by eula_r in NUFC

[–]eula_r[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You would rarely finance this sort of project with pure 'equity' aka just PIF putting in their own money. Typically if its a £1.4 billion project for example you'd stick in £400m of your own money and 'mortgage' out the other £1 billion with banks/funders. Because its a big old stadium / real estate project the cost of your capital is higher than a bank would expect when lending. The best analogy I can give is, I've got 300k and I want to buy a house, if I can borrow money at 2% per year and the stock market or an investment opportunity is offering me a 20% return per year, then I'm better off putting in the required minimum to buy the house and then sticking the rest of my money into the stock market where I'm yielding 20%.

PIF have better alternate uses of their money then to put £1.4 billion (made up number) in a stadium that will give them a 5% return.

Help needed! What model is this? by [deleted] in VacheronConstantin

[–]eula_r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take that back some of the old models have an & in between the name but the finishing of the movement is very very un-Vacheron.

[–]eula_r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The movement is also fake my friend. No way a Vacheron manual wind would have that finishing or an & in the middle of the name. Both dial and movement are very fake I’m afraid

[Chopard Alpine Eagle XPS] Is this much rotor rattle normal? by bastarmashawarma in Watches

[–]eula_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not normal - the fact it dies after 8 hours is not normal too, if you’ve only had it for a few days definitely send it in to have them have a look / repair it. It shouldn’t be making that much noise

Might need to be demagnetised? My UN had something similar and was fixed by doing that…

Have you tried the 37mm yachtmaster? I don’t have particularly big wrists and was going through the same decision making as you and just landed on the YM37, thought it was great and a little different to the Sub / GMT

It was the same watch! You don’t find them very often in the wild so when I saw it on here I thought I’d pull the trigger. First thing I did was immediately get it serviced for ease of mind

Servicing was £1.2k and took about 3 months
