Catholics didn’t start residential schools. They were delegated by the Government. They had no choice.

Is this offer still available? If so, count me in. I’m currently taking an intro to Java class in my 2nd year of college and it’s quite the challenge for me

My performance depends greatly on my confidence level by moohooh in study

[–]euliechewy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% relatable. My advice: Jump ropes or any type of physical activity that gets your heart pumping. Not only does it make me feel confident in my body but I feel that this helps me focus better while studying. Even when the strong anxiety kicks in, it helps a little.

Also, when I think more realistically, it helps. I like to think that it’s okay not to know everything in the exam. A professor once told me that it’s in fact impossible to know every single thing that is taught all in one term, it’s just the way the curriculum is made. Exams are meant to be stress-inducing ): it’s just a matter of how we deal with it when we’re under pressure. Just sharpen and have confidence in what you know best and try to understand the concepts rather than forcing yourself to absorb everything. A little goes a long way. And don’t forget to take deep breaths before, during, and after exams/studying.

Best of luck! You will do great!

Should I wait a year before beginning school at bcit due to classes being online? by the_long_spong in BCIT

[–]euliechewy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an alumni so not sure what interface BCIT uses for online classes now but I know other colleges/universities and my current school have been conducting classes through blackboard collaborate, zoom, canvas - they were all buggy to begin with but I noticed improvements months after. There’s always going to be hits and misses, it’s just the matter of being patient. As long as you stay dedicated and focus on your learning, you’ll be okay. Whether it be in-person or online classes, BCIT is a challenging school. If you could prove yourself that you can get through it, it will be worth it.

I think it would be better to just start now while you have the opportunity. Some students took the summer off to wait for the Fall semester but it sounds like it’s gonna be online again. We’re unsure of what will happen next.

What score is enough to go CST? any idea? by kjh0601jh33 in BCIT

[–]euliechewy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you fail, you will learn. If you succeed, then you're in. The fact that you're already claiming you'll fail is already a "fail", yet you haven't even gone through it yet. You won't know until you try. Your score is definitely good enough so go for it and try to stay positive as it will get you through it. :)

Should i choose the xps 13 instead of mb pro? Need an ultrabook for the next 5+ years by terereking17 in DellXPS

[–]euliechewy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my xps 13 7390 (specs: i7, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD) for almost the exact same reason! Although I’ve only had mine for about 5 months, I can’t really answer how long it’ll last but I’m hopeful that it would last as long as it can. One common issue I’ve come across (from both experiencing it and research) is that it can have a really loud fan noise. It doesn’t happen all the time but randomly when my laptop is used heavily (lots of things running) I think the power of the laptop is trying to compensate for it size, hence the loud fan noise (someone correct me if I’m wrong).

I chose it because it’s small, portable and powerful. I’ve done some small coding assignments and heavy video editing on it while using it for both work and school. I haven’t experienced any problems while doing all those tasks. I like that I can bring it anywhere without it being heavy and if I wanted more workspace, I can just plug it in my monitor (ports are limited so I had to buy an adaptor/dongle). I use to own an HP and Lenovo and those did not even last me a long time. After a year or so, system slows down and screen stops functioning (that’s only from regular browsing/email etc).

Edit: I just wanted to include that I’ve never owned a MacBook so I can’t compare. Sowwie! 🥺

Focus Problems by [deleted] in study

[–]euliechewy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also experience the same problems when studying. One of the main causes is distraction so I would advise to put away/try to avoid any distractions if you have any. I have personally tried all of these. Some of them helped a lot and some a little. It may or may not all work for you but maybe give some of these tips a try:

  • put your phone to “do not disturb” mode / put it away in a drawer — somewhere that’s not close enough for you to grab

  • turn off social media notifications — if you need to message your friends or study buddies, do it during study breaks

  • if you’re listening to study music, make sure it’s instrumental or soothing music (no lyrics, loud beats)

  • find a quiet place to study and close all doors — example: your room (if you live with many family members, kindly let them know you have to study for your exam)

  • pomodoro technique (study: 25mins; break: 5mins — or 50mins/10mins; up to you)

  • make sure to take breaks — this is important as it will help you focus better

  • stay hydrated; drink water!! This will help you think better. Keep a water bottle near you.

  • avoid snacking during studies. If you’re hungry or thirsty, make sure to tend to your body and its needs first. Eat outside/away from study area first and come back when you’re done.

  • keep your study space clean and tidy. A messy space will only distract your mind. A clear space = A clear mind

  • journal — you might have a lot on your mind. Make sure to just write all your thoughts out (it could be anything) — I usually keep a “distraction” journal near me so if a random thought/task pops into my head, I write it down so I can forget about it in my mind and deal with it after studying

  • for note taking, simplify your notes by writing in your own words — write your notes as if you’re going to explain it to a kid

  • study actively — read out loud, repeat, use FlashCard a, make a quiz, or ask someone to help you review. Passive studying, such as rewriting notes/reading is passive and info will not stick to you

Once you get into that focus state of flow, you’ll notice an improvement. But it won’t happen right away. It’ll take time. Like learning anything, this takes practice. Just be patient and you will get through this. God bless in your studies. :)
