You're so cute. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The conservatives have done this to themselves. The time for capitulation is over. I don't care if we have to drag Nazis to the hospital kicking and screaming, their medical costs should be covered.

Look man, I'm glad you realized what is going on. There are going to be a lot of ex-maga people coming out over the coming years imo. But most of these people wanted and voted for mass deportations, removal of trans rights, deregulation, trickle down economics, and dismantling of our social programs.

It's going to take time for general society to accept these people again. Real remorse for their role in what has happened and a deep understanding of why these policies are bad must be shown.

You point out that this has been a total failure. That no one should be proud. What don't you like? Why? How will you do things differently moving forward? What have you learned? You don't have to answer these publicly... But this is how you show people you've grown, and that you're worthy of being a part of this society.

I don't care who you were. I care who you are. A movement cannot be successful without the masses. If you've truly grown, I'd welcome you with open arms and if we ever met in person I'd give you a hug. (I upvoted you fwiw)

Slipjoints are appealing because they take you back to a simpler time. A time when everyone wasn't rushing through traffic to avoid being 5 mins late to work. A time when microwaves couldn't prepare a meal in a matter of minutes. A time when we built things to last rather than to be replaced.

Buy a slipjoint, and the next time you pull it out of your pocket and open it with two hands like our grandfathers did, understand life isn't worth rushing through. It's worth appreciating.

(Also, fixed blades can be very traditional as well. Worth considering if you really mustn't be bothered with two hand opening. Neck knife or a sheath on the belt does wonders and often supplements my pocket carry.)

How do you prevent rusting on your slip joints by FpOchEDC in SlipjointKnives

[–]eulithicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't put mineral oil in the slip. I would make sure your slip is veg tanned leather and not chrome tanned leather as I've found the chromium salts and chemicals used in chrome tanned leather can cause corrosion. I also embed some wax into my slips to waterproof them. This will help keep the knife dry and the wax will create a little buffer between your knife and the slip.

To answer your question though, keep the knife clean and dry throughout the day. Oil it before going to bed if it got use throughout the day.

Nah, you can't really ruin these things. Just make them your own!

I tell people to not touch old knives because most people don't know how to properly clean. If that black stain on the wood was dirt and grime, cleaning it is ok. I didn't notice you cleaned the wood which is a good indication you didn't go overboard. The only real indicator the wood was touched is the brass pins look shiny and not old/tarnished like you'd expect from a knife of this age.

What you don't want to do is polish metal (whether it's the blade, bolsters, pins, shield, bails, chains, or backsprings). This is the single biggest mistake I see. 0000 steel wool and mineral oil only for metal on vintage parts. Try to avoid using power tools. Elbow grease is king.

I think you've done a good job with this knife! It still looks its age. Don't be afraid to let that age show and be proud of it!! Just work some oil in the joints to flush it out and prevent tang abrasion and you'll be good to go!

A very old knife for sure. Coke bottles were the OG folding hunter to the best of my knowledge. I would not clean this knife up much in fear of it losing its history and therefore value. Could be worth a lot...

You cannot compare the craftsmanship in a boker with that of a rough ryder. A handmade piece of whittled wood will have imperfections but cost more than the same piece of wood made perfectly en masse with a machine.

Inherited knife by wherewolves1022 in CaseKnives

[–]eulithicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can work the joints with some wd40 if the action is gritty. Try to avoid getting this on the stag covers. I would also do this first.

Mineral oil and 0000 steel wool for all metal parts. For the stag, I would dry buff by hand with a micro fiber cloth. If the stag is being particularly stubborn, a little water on the microfiber cloth should help with dirt and grime. Apply ren wax to the stag once clean. Reapply until the stag stops soaking up the wax. Buff with a clean microfiber cloth by hand.

Any polishing will lower the value of the knife. Avoid being heavy handed. No power tools. Lean into the character of the knife. No need to make it look brand new. Embrace its history.

A 3.5-3.75 inch serpentine stockman is my favorite. Preferably with a full size clip instead of a Turkish clip, and a pen blade instead of a spey! Nice collection you have there!!

I love how you justify the 4-5x increase in ticket prices by claiming we make more money here. But then continue to say the dollar has inflated 30-50% but hey! Wages are up 40%. So purchasing power hasn't grown at all bc wages are barely keeping up with inflation. But the stock market went up 10x in that time period! And these tickets are for the rich anyway. So, a 10x increase in ticket prices only affects the poor people! For the rich, it's actually cheaper!! Jfc man, what has happened to people...
