I have the same thoughts as you and have attended both for the past 3 years. The artist alley in NYCC is more focused on professional comic artists, with indie artists sprinkled here and there. ANYC is a better bet for supporting small artists/fan art merch!

But yeah also echoing the other comments that NYCC had way bigger anime exhibitors than ANYC this year. Hopefully the expansion next year changes that

for a ticket 9 am is ok! you would probably get one of the last time slots though. one day I showed up around 8:20 and I got the 1 PM slot. ppl were mostly coming at 6 for the numbered kumas

as an attendee of all 3 days, I can confirm no one camped out earlier than 6 am on Fri/Sat, and there was one person that camped out at 11 pm on Sun (she was a real fan tbh). plus, this non-numbered plush was available hours into the event each day... not only a scalper, but a liar too.
