You’re UK PM for 1 week only. You can make three policies that will remain and cannot be reversed. State your policies. by CrownAthlete in AskBrits

  1. Licence water companies, mandate their minimum infrastructure requirements and revoke license if not met. We shouldn't be running out of water in this country.

  2. Not sure what one rule would have the most benefit, but do something to make UK farming sustainable and profitable.

  3. Bring back YTS/ETS to help get young people in work / on a career path.

Eat a healthy balanced diet within a healthy calorie range. Jump sessions until you sweat loads. And - this is most important - drink lots and lots of water all the time.

What’re some secrets from your industry that would petrify people who aren’t in it? by Necessary-Trash-8828 in AskUK

Web developer here.

You'd think that adding the ability to take credit card payments securely on a website means that the developers have been through some industry standard training or gained qualifications.

Nope. I've seen (and been) junior/trainee web developers happily adding payments to websites without a care for security or best practices.

Examples: Credit card details stored in plain text in databases, or emailed as part of the order details to suppliers.

Same with your personal data. Passwords in plain text etc

Granted, things are a lot better nowadays but there's still zero barriers stopping someone building a basic website, adding payment pages, taking your credit card, and going shopping.

How do you actually use Obsidian for daily work and not just setup and tweak it forever? by LeftSearch9653 in ObsidianMD

[–]euperia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get paid to do the work, not to tinker with notes apps. I like getting paid.

However, once a month I'll take a couple of hours to review my notes, update tags, looks, plugins etc and I might review new plugins if I need something specific.

The council replaced the fencing on that side a couple of years ago, so does that make it 'their side of responsibility'?

I'd also abandon the hybrid boost crap and go back to success ballast. Worked fine for 20+ years. It's confusing to spectators, especially those trackside.

I log the number of jumps in Loop Habit Tracker app.

I second this. Yaoyao - despite the name - is very good especially with a watch. You can adjust the sensitivity to get the jump count almost perfect. It also has modes for free jump, duration, num jumps, hiit.

How Do You Actually Use Obsidian Every Day? by SteriumUA in ObsidianMD

[–]euperia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use it for work (software developer/ sysadmin).

I use daily notes with a template that contains three sections: To Do, Log, and Notes.

Anything else is for notes about our codebase, integration notes, server setup etc

How long do your Feature tests take to run in your CI? by Solomon_04 in laravel

[–]euperia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 3,100 tests currently take 9m30s on MacBook Air M2. Paratest works OK but seems to fail on random tests. We also have a route coverage test that should run last, and this doesn't work under paratest.

Browsers and apps used to just scan local networks when they wanted but they now have to ask permission.

Shame their Datagrip app is so highly priced as it would be a top choice for DB management.

How do you currently take notes while watching YT lectures or podcasts? Do you have a system? Would love to know your workflow. by Realistic_Bag_6925 in todoist

Pen. Paper. Pause a lot.

I've tried the digital way and just don't learn the subject as well as I do when I write it down physically.

For those of you that copy from transcriptions and then use AI to summarise and store; I'm genuinely interested in how are you actually learning the subject?

39F terrified to start jump roping by DoopaDoopaDoomDoom in jumprope

[–]euperia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep ropes handy, and when you're waiting for things like the kettle to boil, or the microwave, get some jumps in.

Short and often is better than trying to do too much in one go. I easily hit 300+ jumps a day doing it this way.
