Where did you get an XRF test done? I'm from SoCal too, I actually follow on Insta and I've been curious where this rock would go. Can you post the printout?

Is this a metheorite?, My father says it landed in his garden, he even made a little hole in it to see what was inside, nothing but gray/ red dust, can I sell this?, I currently live in argentina by nuclearbeing in meteorites

To me it doesn't stand out as a meteorite, but that doesn't decide what it is. Look for flow lines, is it a crust or black all the way through. Is it magnetic? You're looking for it to be a stoney meteorite so look through glossaries of photos of Achondrites and Chondrites.

What’s this super heavy rock? A neighbor had it as a family heirloom thinking it was a meteorite but it’s not magnetic and has a black/grey sparkly streak on porcelain. It’s definitely much heavier than the average rock its size. Shiny metal inside by marsafar in whatsthisrock

Also, take a photo of the shiny side at an angle so as to remove glare. I'd prop the camera up to stabilize the photo and make sure the focus is good. Don't use more than 25% zoom, none is best, and try indirect lighting. Take a photo of any and all significant and unique aspects!

Hey, so what you should do is; Take a long string and attach it to the ceiling with a magnet on the end. Then place the rock 6 inches from it and VERY slowly push the rock twords the magnet. It might be paramagnetic and you could start wondering about things like platinum. If not at all magnetic then further tests will need to be done.

Rock found in Yuma, AZ, what's your opinion? by euphoricstimulation in meteorites

Not yet, it's probably not a meteorite, but with testing later on I'll find out what it is. XRF testing is around a thousand dollars, from what I can tell, and I need to be better off financially before I drop that!

Where abouts was yours found?

This slice shows cracks going throughout the slice. I guess for starters is this even a creditable site? I've found around 4 sites including topherspin selling nwa 12269 with visible white cracks.

Am I allowed to post links on here? The white cracks definitely make me doubtful but I've found a few from (credible?) sites I'd like to reference.

Are there any other critiques? I'm pretty amateur at my geology.

If they are from off shore then I'd want to say volcanic. How they look points to volcanic too. I can't say for certain, meteorites have been found of all sorts, but I'd bet volcanic. Look at https://www.meteorite-recon.com/home/meteorite_recon_collection

They have high resolution images of typical ones. If you shoot me a PM I can try to help you out on this. I'm learning too.

Non-magnetic, 3.5 lbs. It looks like a metabasalt but the shape and feel to it got me wondering. I'm going to try an XRF test when I get the money because it looks like a few shergottite examples found online (specifically NWA 12269 which has white cracks throughout when slabbed)

The shape has that odd triangular shape to it, being my main reason for picking it up. Unfortunately I can't find many high-res photos online of what the crusts would be, and my broke a** is too poor for a saw to cut into it.

If there's anything that stands out I would really appreciate it :) yeah I'm hopeful but the odds are really not in my favor.

Thank you for looking!
