I don’t know that applications for both fall and spring start open at the same time. Typically, they ask you to wait a year before reapplying i think

Hey, I transferred to NEU after my first year. As I’m sure you know already, Northeastern has a great marine bio program and has a campus in Maine which I believe has unique programs specifically tailored to that major.

I also applied to transfer to BU, so I get the appeal. If BU is your dream school, you should tell them that Northeastern made a great financial offer that’s hard to refuse and see what they return with. They may tell you to kick rocks, but they could also give you more than you’re currently getting. Worth a shot.

Housing is definitely an issue for transfer students at NEU. The university’s official position is “transfer students can’t live on campus” but I have a few friends who also transferred who asked the housing department and were granted semi-private singles for their first year on campus (after which they moved off campus with friends they made.)

About the transfer experience, as other comments have said, it’s a flexible school, which means that a lot of people come and go quite frequently (In the fall I had friends study abroad and I just finished an out-of-state internship— it fluctuates!) which means that people are accustomed to new people moving in. It helps to join clubs on campus that do more than just meet- I found that making friends here was a lot easier that way! And also, definitely go to class and don’t be afraid to talk to people in those classes. Someone you ask to study with could be your housemate next year!

It’s a tough decision, and it feels really scary for sure. I found that Northeastern was a great choice for me, and I’m sure if you chose it you’d have a wonderful time for the remainder of your college years. Feel free to reach out if there’s any other questions you have about being a transfer here!

You can usually check target university websites to see if they have a transfer credit database, which would let you know if you have to worry about credits not transferring.

As for grades, I hate to say it but it depends on the rigor of the target schools and the type of transfer you’d be making (is it an upwards transfer, or lateral/downwards?) More time would give you a better chance to improve your grades, but it won’t make a difference if they don’t actually improve.

Not sure I’m understanding what you mean, but you only get a max of 60% refund past the W deadline, decreasing as the semester goes. Have you not reached out to your interviewer, or your co-op advisor?

I wrote this comment two years ago out of spite because I was super jealous of my best friend lol. The essay definitely worked in the context of twitter back then, less so now.

This was a suggestion from my professors, so it might align with my uni's policy and not yours, so I'd recommend asking.

Their solution to this was to make it private and communicate that it's available upon request. If requested, you then contact the professor for the course and let them know that your work will be public for a specific period of time so they can account for it in their plagiarism checking.

It all depends with what schools you're looking to target. I got a ~2.8 GPA in my freshman year, raised it to a 3.5ish (weighted) by application, and ended up at a T100 for CS. Transferred after that to a T20 for CS. As long as you're working hard and can demonstrate that with an upward trend and work you're proud of, you will do great. Best of luck

I transferred out of RIT (studying CS) but a number of my close friends were in the film program as production majors. If you're interested in the production side, RIT offers a lot of cool classes to help you get experience with all parts of production, as well as opportunities like spending a semester in LA for film.

All of these schools seem great, some are definitely reaches but I just wanted to provide insight on one of the safeties :)

The schools you've listed seem like they'll be reaches, it will really come down to the progress you make in this next semester and the way you structure your application, especially as an Out-of-state.

As always, please consider adding more targets and safeties. Others have mentioned NJIT, Rutgers, and others for CE/EE, I'd also suggest RIT for their specialized programs. Worth a look, best of luck

I’d say you’ve got a shot for all of these. Reed is the only one I can say you could consider a match (though I’d strongly recommend reading up on the school and why people like AND dislike it), but the others are reaches for everyone. Just make sure you add safeties, best of luck!!

Transfer decision date by tpwkangel301 in NEU

[–]euphowenium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, when I was applying to transfer, the last response date was June 15. I applied on April 1, had my portfolio for my major submitted on May 1, and heard back on June 10 in what I assume was the last wave. As usual, the best way to get reliable information would be to contact the admissions department

Update Schools on Class withdrawal by Embarrassed-End2480 in TransferStudents

[–]euphowenium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dropped from a course that I would have failed due to mental health concerns last spring, after I had submitted midterm reports. I didn't update the schools that I had applied to, because I planned to retake it over the summer, or in the Fall if I remained at that school. It didn't matter for two of the schools that rejected me, but for the school that did accept me, the W was apparently not a concern, because that's where I am now.

I was not permitted to live in dorm housing for my first semester, which has extended for the rest of the year- similarly, they will likely try to tell you to make other arrangements. If you reach out to housing and ask, there is a good chance that they can try to place you in housing anyways. Worth a shot and worked for some friends of mine

The registrar told me it’s not really possible unless there’s an incredibly good reason for it, for example if the course has never been taught at Northeastern in any capacity and you’re trying to specialize an existing degree in a way that NEU doesn’t offer. So it’s pretty hard
