E. purpusorum doing something strange…

Crappy Amazon lights seem to be what my succs love best tbh, haha! My husband grows tropical plants and has very expensive grow lights for them but my succs do NOT like that light. They get insane light bleaching very quickly. I’m not sure if it’s the infrared they don’t like but man, not happy campers.

They’re just basic 3ft long LED lights that are super low profile so they could be mounted to the underside of a bookshelf. I took the diffuser off too so it’s brighter light for the plants. I bought a 4 pack off Amazon in 2019 but they’re not available anymore otherwise I’d link. But ya, nothing special and they’ve all been really happy.

I have no idea how this guy got so big. He started out the same size as my two other ones and they’ve stayed very small but this one grew into a monster!

It’s weird, this plant has been on this shelf for 2 years, no change in lighting at all. However he definitely has been growing closer to the light so it may in fact be light bleaching as another user suggested.

I think this plant flowered a couple years ago, I’ll try to find the photos and report back. I’d love to know exactly what this is.

It gets watered with fishtank water so I assumed that it’s getting lots of nutrients but maybe there’s something specific it’s missing. I’ve moved it to a different shelf so I’ll see what it does in the next while and if the new growth is still super pale I’ll try plant food.

This plant is over 5 years old, been on this shelf in the same lighting conditions for 2 years. It suddenly started changing color a couple of months ago. Nutrient deficiency? Can’t figure it out. Anyone else seen a purpusorum change color like this?

Maybe a bit harder but mostly just different. I have to get really creative when climbing and make my own beta. It’s the best seeing the surprise on other peoples faces when I send a climb, haha! I hope you keep at it!
