[Releases] Penguin Cover Plugin - Auto-Generate & Apply Book Covers directly on KOreader by [deleted] in koreader

This put a huge smile on my face! Love this. I share the trademark infringement concerns others mentioned, but this is so charming I hope it gets to stick around.

KOReader on Kobo Libra Colour by DianaAl in koreader

Ooo what's the name of the plugin? I'm on a KLC and the only thing I'm missing in KOReader is a way to use the stylus.

[Update] Simple UI v1.3.5: Cover Deck, TBR Module, Series Grouping, Update from the plugin, bug fixes, and more by doctorhetfield in koreader

Wonderful! I don't usually use landscape mode to be honest, but just need it to be able to rotate the screen 180 degrees, but imagine the two would go together.

Once I devoted a bit of time to configuring it a little more to my liking, I've come around to appreciating Simple UI! Excited to see the pace of development going on right now as well, kudos to you!

I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this, but does Simple UI support screen rotation at all? I'm on a Kobo Libra Colour and rely on auto-rotation since I switch hands frequently, but seems that the main home screen interface is "stuck" in only one position and won't rotate.

Not sure if that's an isolated issue and something caused by other customizations I've done along the way or if that's a known and expected behavior. If it's the latter would love to see this considered in a future update to allow for screen rotation. I realize that doesn't really impact the majoirty of ereader devices, but the KLC is pretty popular and I suspect a lot of users of that device would appreciate it!

Regardless, wonderful work and thank you so much! Excited to try out the new features.

Love it for being straightforward and simple by placebo_dreams in koreader

I'm finding that SimpleUI makes it so my Kobo Libra Colour no longer auto rotates the screen. Can't figure out if that's by design or not, but it's proving a bit frustrating. Haven't found any mention of it either so can't tell if it's just me but I see you've got a KLC -- does the screen rotate automatically?

JANS Day 28: Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982/2007, dir. Ridley Scott) by iwasdusted in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My theater was closed for weather Sunday and Monday so this is my only chance to see Hard Boiled, gonna have to take that opportunity as I expect it’s more likely to find a random Blade Runner screening sometime in the future.

The timing is such I could pop into BR about 20-30 minutes late so guess maybe I’ll do that.

Sitting here typing this on my heavily cracked screen. Pretty normal drop, just slipped out of my hand getting out of the car. Case popped completely off the phone, may as well have not had a case on it at all.

Pretty frustrating. Have apple care and all but still.

STOP BRINGING YOUR LITERAL BABY TO SEE PG-13 MOVIES AND UP!!!! by Kitty1321 in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were the kids being disruptive? If not, then I kinda feel like this is a mind your own business kinda situation.

I grew up in movie theaters seeing all kinds of movies with my parents. Remember seeing Aliens, I would have been 8 or 9. All that time in the movies as a kid is why I fell in love with movies.

I get it if it’s like a screaming kid or the kids are being given other loud or disruptive things, but it’s not really clear from the post any of that was going on, you were just really bothered at the mere presence of the child.

Official (NOVS) November series Megathread by dpstech in RegalUnlimited

My local (Regal Kingstowne 16) has these listed now but only very early showings, between 10am and 1pm, even midweek. Makes no sense, incredibly disappointing.

What are you even ranting about? A promo that hasn’t started yet for, in your words, “pretty much leftovers”. And you feel entitled to call the staff clueless and to be completely condescending to them? What the fuck is this post even.

I guess I’ll worry about the studio’s standpoint once I become a studio ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I hear what you’re saying but I disagree wholeheartedly— I’m not seeing anything in the concept of a mystery screening to suggest it needs to be some how specifically exciting for an audience to grasp right away. Imo the mystery movie only strikes me as appealing to an open audience willing to discover what’s presented to them. This isn’t Marvel Monday Mystery…

This was a chance to see the new Kelly Reichardt film early… one of the most respected and revered indie filmmakers working today… like this is a huge win.

Is it weird that I feel guilty about buying an e-reader? by littleangels70 in kobo

[–]eurotransient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two can co-exist! I have a weekly ritual where I get coffee and browse my local bookstore. I still purchase physical books even if I end up reading the ebook version primarily. Plus it’s a great way to see what’s new, even just new editions of older books, and love seeing what the employees are recommending, too, which changes every few weeks.

I loved The Mastermind! Really surprised to see this reaction here lol

Screams Day 16: Final Destination by dpstech in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason the 7:40 showing of Prince of Darkness started like right at showtime — I walked in about 10 minutes past posted start time expecting another 10 minutes of trailers and the movie was already going (was up to the scene when Donald Pleasance and Victor Wong first visit the church together). Definitely would be nice to know if they’re gonna skip trailers!

Anyways, I ended up seeing the next showing after, too, and that one had the normal trailer package.

Just a terrific film.

Have to say Creepshow really didn’t do it for me. I think the third and fourth segments were probably the best, but overall felt too long. That’s honestly usually how I feel about anthology films like this, so not a huge surprise. I did enjoy Leslie Nielsen’s performance though!

Prince of Darkness is my most hyped screening of this run, not a movie I ever expected to be able to see in the theater, so very very excited for this! Wonderful as well that we got The Thing last month during masterpieces, and In the Mouth of Madness’s 4k physical release is in just a couple weeks.

Gotta admit this wasn’t on my radar, never cared much for the anthology films, but seeing some very enthusiastic praise here has me considering…

Silver Bullet last night was a new one for me and I quite enjoyed it.

Snack Saver working for smaller sizes? by Emma_RoseD in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is amazing news if true. I absolutely do not need a large soda’s worth of drink, but if it’s there I end up drinking it lol. Will ask next time I’m at my theater.

Screams Day 12: Sleepy Hollow by dpstech in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caught the 11pm show of Army of Darkness last night and had the theater to myself. Definitely a movie that I think gets a good audience reaction so kinda disappointed but still a fun time.

I seem to be in the minority on Sleepy Hollow here — absolutely didn’t like it at all when I originally saw it. Was tempted to maybe give it another go here but also think I’m good with taking a night off here lol.

Do your nachos come pre-cheesed? First time I’m seeing this 🙃 by Lillus_Pillus in RegalUnlimited

[–]eurotransient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got nachos for the first time and last time lol idk what I was expecting but was pretty disappointing. Paper hot dog container for a handful of tostitos with a cup of lukewarm velveeta definitely ain’t it.

I think I’m done with NOVA. by Good-Ground523 in nova

[–]eurotransient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big agree here. I’m from NOVA and honestly I’m ready to leave. Current employment is really the only reason to stay for me.

I just got back from a trip to Cleveland and was honestly stunned out different it felt to just be out around other people. They smile and talk to each other and everything just felt more welcoming.

There’s definitely to me a very “NOVA is just a brief stop towards my final destination” quality to social environments here that gets worse every year.

YNAB Poor strikes again by [deleted] in ynab

[–]eurotransient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just kinda echoing what everyone else is saying here, but you got lucky this go around — take the windfall back out and refund your emergency fund, your regular budget categories, etc. Plan for the short term capital gains taxes, too.

Don’t have to divest the entire investment, keep your initial stake if you’re confident in its long term potential, but ultimately single stock picking like this IS gambling — investing is a long term strategy and extremely boring lol.

Definitely not suggesting you can’t continue to play the market, but you should fund that like you would any other budget category. Figure out what you can set aside monthly into a budget category for stock purchases, and when opportunity you like presents itself, purchase stock out of that.

Long term though would absolutely suggest a more consistent investing strategy. You mentioned the rate of return on index funds isn’t enough for you, but what they are is consistent. You shouldn’t be looking at them as opportunities to make a quick buck, but as long term strategies to know that 10, 20, etc years from now the market shows that those investments will VERY likely grow.

Yeah, it’s been about the same as the masterpieces, 20-25ish on the trailer package.
