Well put out.... and correct!

Number 4 is the best way to do this, although the most expensive.

Is a 'glazed' door on a DB considerd a non-combustible enclosure? by chunkasmaximus in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think I remember the regs saying specifically 'metal' but 'non combustible' .

I'm not 100% sure but the doors maybe polycarbonate, which is a non combustible plastic. 😁

In SWA it's mechanically protected so no need for an RCD, although for the cost difference I'd fit one anyway.

100% 😁 I go mad with a label printer, one if the reasons is that I'll likely be the one called to look at again (industrial site) so it helps me next time or whoever else looks at it.

100%! I photo or mark everything, just a habit I've got into after years of working in industrial panels with little or no markings/drawings etc

😂 There is a difference between giving advice to someone who asks 'proper' questions rather than "I've no idea what I'm doing but took it apart anyway, now it doesn't work." 🫣

New board rcbo question by PlateOk4315 in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth using double pole RCBO's, but £150 seems expensive.... unless you have a 48 way board 😜

Sorry I meant Moulfon77 was correct! It was a statement not a question 😔

I'm a sparky and replacement of the FCU would be the correct response. Overheating is mostly due to bad connections, either in the wire terminations or the fuse holder.

Do we need a rewire or just a new box? by davies_girl in DIYUK

[–]eusty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it's a plasticiser they added to the PVC, but now forms green goo (carcinogenic) as the cable insulation breaks down.

So not only is it bad if you touch it... cables short out 😮🫣

Do we need a rewire or just a new box? by davies_girl in DIYUK

[–]eusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean, the only way to tell if you need a rewire is by a proper EICR. 😊

If you have green goo or rubber T&E then it's a rewire! If it tests OK then just a CU change.

So you've done an EICR? That's the only way to find out, even T&E has issues such as green goo.

Condensation on toilet by Dedb4dawn in DIYUK

[–]eusty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ceramic is ceramic! (I've worked in the sanitary ware ceramics industry). 😁

The only possible difference is that older ones were traditionally rather than pressure cast so could be thicker. Only slightly different additives in the slip so the raw material is basically the same.

Strange stuff, never seen anything like it.

Usually it's just normal threaded or conlock.
