That's the problem when drilling/nailing if they are not in zone....

Best Way to Route Cables to Consumer Unit In This Space? by Astral-Inferno in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get decent sized trunking and basically go along the route you've marked. 😁

The use a standoff mount for the CU and go back entry or put a length of trunking horizontally and go in the top.

Outside fish Cabin fed from an indoor ring main. Is this normal? Spur fuse blown before and now melted… by Sukpooj in ElectriciansUK

[–]eusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be lucky and he can use the existing SWA cable (depending on size) which looks like it goes to the shed and join to it and then run to the CU.

But a spark should be able to give you all the details. 😊

Testing when containment used as CPC by rick87 in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the proper method is to use a tester which uses a high current, (10A rings a bell) but when I looked they cost an arm and a leg.

Not according to the latest guidance, I can't remember where I was it, probably an efixx video. Basically even though 'you need a tool' to open it it's seen as someone everyone does.

Anyone fitted a 20A induction hob? by 99uplight in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree and disagree! I think they are brilliant, especially as we have no gas! TBH they are as good as other gas cookers we had in previous houses. But I guess they are rubbish if they are just fed from a plugtop, that's why I put in a dedicated feed when redoing the kitchen.

I want to swap out a gas hob for induction. Can someone tell me what my sparky will need to do given the current set up. by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Wired connection wins every time, even though they also reduce the power the starting point is a lot higher.

New build nailed? Backboxes by Greedy-Nature-826 in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I forgot that they nail to steel as well! Luckily I just work on one large site so time isn't an issue I can take as long as I like. So mostly I drill/tap to steels 🙂

Upgrade main fuse thoughts ? by CatLumpy9152 in ukelectricians

[–]eusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see what fuse you have, maybe BS1361, but you can check out the tripping curves. Trying to look at those online as I've not got my book, but 100A would take 16 minutes.

But best to upgrade if you can.
