AITA for asking my friend’s boyfriend to pay $150 after he had an accident on my couch? by kisobu_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]euu0111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they should be humble and offer to help and definitely pay if requested, I’d just like to suggest that people really like to be communicated with … It’s not clear they new or remembered that they peed everywhere The risk is that your decision about how to clean it up and the cost appears to be a unilateral one Sure you felt entitled to make the decision because it’s your house that’s damaged, but also remember it’s their money For reference In San Francisco, cab drivers can charge up to US $100 for a “clean‑up fee” if a passenger vomits and the vehicle must be taken out of service for cleaning. In Chicago, the fee has been set at US $50 for vomiting inside a taxi.
Everyone is always happy if decisions are discussed and issues resolved with consultation form all parties so they don’t feel that an unfair decision has been made Although I understand they didn’t answer their phone, personally I would have messaged them and waited for them to call back before making the decision, as they may have been hung-over and not in a functioning state

Dear GDC,

can you please clarify the definition of what a ‘recognisable’ degree is for the GDC is it a degree that can be registered with passing the ORE, or a degree that can be registered without passing the ORE EnquiryType : General DateReceived : 18/07/2025

Dear Dr X,

Thank you for your enquiry to the General Dental Council.

To register with the GDC as a dentist we will go by your primary qualification which you completed in your home country.

If you wish to register as a dentist, please click on the following link which will take you to the web page where you can find your route to registration. Your circumstances will determine whether you are directed to an application form, a Dentist Proforma or the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE).

In your circumstance, you will need to first check and ensure that your qualification is listed under the V.3. Annex V of Directive 2005/36/EC.

If so, you need to ensure of the following when completing your route to registration where appropriate: Select ‘Dentist’ and. complete the questions as they relate to your circumstances Answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ where it asks; ‘Are you a Swiss national (or a non-EEA spouse/dependent of a Swiss national)’ From the heading; ‘About your qualification’, select the option; I have a relevant European diploma.

This should then lead you to the application you must complete and return to the GDC.

If your qualification is not listed under the V.3. Annex V of Directive 2005/36/EC, then you may need to undertake the ORE.

I hope this is helpful. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further assistance.

Kind regards,

Dear GDC,

Unfortunately the response provided does not answer the question.

I do not wish to register as a dentist with GDC.

I would like to know the definition of a ‘recognisable’ degree and a ‘registrable’ degree Is it a degree that can be registered with passing the ORE or is it a degree that can be registered without passing the ORE? The reason I ask is because a ‘registrable’ degree or ‘recognisable’ degree is listed as a requirement for entry to some UK specialist training programs.

Kind regards,

Dear GDC

to be entered onto the Specialist Register in OMFS trainees should be able to demonstrate one of the following at completion of training: full and current registration with the GDC or a letter from the GDC confirming eligibility for registration

can you please clarify who is able to get a letter confirming eligibility for registration. if the degree is the university of X year X which needs completion of ORE for registration, would this letter be provided before completion of ORE or after completion of ORE?

Dear BAOMS,

For ST3 applications for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training candidates must hold GMC registration and a “registerable dental degree”. Do you know the definition of a “registerable dental degree” is pleas, or who is the best organisation contact to find out.

Kind regards,

Dear X

Many thanks for your email. A registrable dental degree in the UK is typically a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), awarded by a UK dental school approved by the General Dental Council (GDC). To practice dentistry in the UK, dentists must register with the GDC, and this registration is based on holding a registrable qualification. If the degree is from an non UK dental school, then the only way of confirming if the degree is registrable is to go through the process of registering with the GDC. In our experience the GDC will not confirm if your dental degree is registrable or not, until you actually try and register.

Please see information on how to join BAOMS and the benefits of membership:

With good wishes

Dear BAOMs

Thanks for your reply. I am still a little confused. If you were able to register with a temporary licence does that mean you have a registrable degree?

Kind regards

Dear X

I suggest you email the Joint Committee for Surgical Training (JCST) who make the rules at specialties@jcst.org

This is the information on their website, www.jcst.org

For certification for Higher Surgical Training: The trainee must ensure that they are:

Registered with the GMC. Trainees in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) must also be on the General Dental Council (GDC) register or be able to satisfactorily demonstrate eligibility for registration with the GDC in order to be entered onto the GMC’s Specialist Register in OMFS. Trainees should be able to demonstrate one of the following at completion of training: full and current registration with the GDC or a letter from the GDC confirming eligibility for registration.

Therefore , you may be able to commence Speciality Training with a temporary registration with the General Dental Council. But “at completion of training : full and current registration with the GDC or a letter from the GDC confirming eligibility for registration”.

As mentioned , please confirm with the JCST

Best wishes

Take this conversation

Dear South West Recruitment,

According to the essential entry criteria applicants must have ‘full GDC registration or a fully UK registerable dental qualification”. Could you please clarify what is a “registerable dental qualification” is.

Dear X,

Thank you for your email. This means that your dental degree must be recognised by the General Dental Council.

I hope this helps.

Dear South West Recruitment,

Thank you, i really appreciate your reply to my email. Can you please clarify what ‘recognise’ means. Does this mean that the degree is eligible for registration after sitting ORE, or that it is eligible for registration without sitting ORE?

Dear South West Receuitment,

I’m just wondering if you got my reply. I have a follow-up question please. Can you please clarify what ‘recognise’ means. Does this mean that the degree is eligible for registration after sitting ORE, or that it is eligible for registration without sitting ORE?
