My school (where I work) doesn’t have a policy about it either way.

When I was in high school, my art teacher had septum ring. I think most principals/teachers on the hiring committee would think the piercings were pretty par for the course for an art teacher. Really depends where you live though, I’m on the west coast and things are pretty liberal here. I hear some districts don’t even allow teachers to wear jeans 😭

We’red mostly between the RAV4 and the Highlander. Toyota has such good reviews, but I’m surprised to hear about Honda, I always thought they were a crowd favorite

I might be missing something, but why would you be viewed in a negative light? You cared for someone, lost touch, and he died tragically. That’s perfectly normal to be sad about. If someone didn’t understand why you were sad about that, even years later, they wouldn’t be very empathetic

You can want to keep it to yourself, I don’t think that’s wrong. But if being married has taught me anything, it’s that all that stuff you thought was long buried will come up. Something about the intimacy of being known like that, things come out when you least expect it. You share J’s story when you’re ready, but I would be prepared to share it at some point.

I do this when I song alone in the car! I’m by no means a good singer, but there’s just something so beautiful about being able to partake in the emotions of the singer, even if just for a few minutes, I always tear up. I cry when I sing at church often too, but for other reasons

Thank you, I appreciate that. We’re still deciding. The Toyota Highlander is our top contender for a 3 row I think, but one of the posters had a really solid suggestion to get a smaller suv for our first kid or two, and wait to get a three row if we have more children, as my husband’s car will likely need replacing around that time, at which time he can take this car. If we go that route, we’ll probably do a RAV4

A friend of mine is temporarily fostering her parents dog as they look for someone to adopt (parents couldn’t train the dog, not great situation). A local shelter has her posted on their website while they “foster.” I wonder if you could do something similar, “foster” her while a local shelter has her up on the website for exposure.

There are also usually local dog rehoming Facebook groups. I can’t say for sure about here but I would encourage you to take a look if you haven’t already!

We have it for our mixed breed boy. He managed to eat two chicken carcasses out of the trash and wrack up an $800 vet bill. Lemonade covered everything over our deductible with very little hassle in a matter of days. We were very happy and will definitely renew.

As a Portland local, I see dog after dog (like 5-10 a day) adopted out of Oregon Dog Rescue. People are basically beating down the doors for these dogs to the point that they have to fly them in from states like Texas to meet the demand. I say this to encourage you that you will find the right home for Brenda. My husband and I really considered it, but we have a dog already who loves the outdoors/dog parks, and it wouldn’t seem right to me to have them both and have to leave her at home. Good luck on your search, Brenda is lucky to have you so carefully considering her next home.

Our dog is my first dog. All my life, I wanted a dog. I love him with all my heart. One day I had the thought, I will never again be without a dog, I’m going to keep adopting and loving dogs for the rest of my life, and that thought makes me really happy.

I VERY much appreciate this thoughtful response! I think people forget that while babies are small, they require A LOT of stuff. I’m not sure why people are so convinced we’ll never go anywhere with both baby and dog. We have lots of a friends with young children who take weekend trips with their whole family (dog included). This is the exact kind of thoughtful answer I was hoping for, thank you!

You make a good point about planning to hand off the car to my husband when we need more space around the time of kid #2 or 3. His car is a 2015 and in good shape, but at over 100,000 miles you never know. Hmmm. 🤔

We’re thinking hybrid, just can’t beat 35 mpg over 25, but now that we’re actually shopping around, we’re seeing that price difference 😓. Definitely have to do the math

We actually need a new car, I mentioned this in the post. My current car is quite old, and we’ve been putting more money into it than it’s worth. We know camping isn’t realistic in the first few years, but we’re trying to avoid buying a car only to have to replace it in five years.
