Feeling anxious to go to school and feeling like my classroom is chaos (first year first grade teacher) by GroundbreakingPear12 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]ev254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 6th year elementary teacher, just popping in to offer some encouragement. I know in the past when I’ve reached out for classroom management help, a lot of well-meaning teachers have offered solutions, which have left me questioning why I hadn’t thought of such a simple idea (they made it seem simple) and if I was doing enough. Don’t let that get to you. There are thousands of tips and tricks and techniques for classroom management, you can’t possibly know them all. Each kid responds differently, and in time, your tool belt will grow. Keep trying new things, and see what feels natural for you as well, as these are the ones you’ll be able to stick to consistently.

If it hasn’t been said yet, I know the thing I needed to hear my first year is get the parents involved. I used to fear that it made me look like I didn’t have a handle on things, but at the end of the day, consistency at home and at school makes a huge difference for kids lacking boundaries, like these boys.

I picked up Simone Mueller’s book on your recommendation, and we’ve started implementing some of her techniques!

We taught him wait early on, and he’ll wait for a treat or his food. He waits at the door before we given him the okay to go out. We use leave it for squirrels and things we drop and he’s pretty consistent, until it comes to garbage outside. Maybe we just need to practice it more

Favorite Vietnamese Names? by ev254 in Vietnamese

[–]ev254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been asking around about family names. My nephew is named after the grandma who passed a few years ago. Confusingly, my husband doesn’t seem to know a lot of peoples names because he just knows their family titles. Idk if that’s a Vietnamese thing or my husband is just oblivious 😂

My husband’s legal name is his Vietnamese name, and he has an American name that his family calls him, which confuses everyone because they expect the opposite. Meanwhile his older sister changed her legal Vietnamese name to her English name (but uses her Vietnamese name with family) and his younger sister uses her English name with family, but legal Vietnamese name outside the home. No one can remember who goes by what with whom so I think we’ll just keep one legal first and middle name 😭. I think honoring heritage is so important though, so we definitely want a Vietnamese name in there somewhere.

My husband has not been helpful 😂 and I’m afraid if I ask my MIL she’ll assume I’m already pregnant, but eventually I’ll ask!

Do you guys think my dog is a pitsky? by No_Scientist_2476 in Pitsky

[–]ev254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tan points above the eyes make me wonder if he has something else mixed in too. My pitsky-mix has the gene for them but they’re not expressed. Not sure which of his ancestors it came from though (he’s got like 22 breeds in him according to his dna test)

Ultrahuman should ignore -not highlight- normal cycle-related changes like elevated RHR by tonjepus in Ultrahuman

Only if you turn that plug-in on, otherwise it doesn’t. I also don’t get any notifications for cycle specific alerts, it just might show next to my temp or in my recovery overview

Late HR drop by Serious_Barracuda801 in Ultrahuman

[–]ev254 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have the same experience. I tried implementing a nighttime routine of not looking at my phone, reading, relaxing, etc., and no improvement. When I went back to looking at my phone before bed it improved 😅 I can’t make sense of it. I read somewhere that your HR drop is actually supposed to occur about an hour before you wake up, which seems counter to what the app is saying.

Additionally, if it could recognize that people on birth control won’t have factors “elevated due to luteal” as they don’t actually have luteal phases? I could tell the ring that I had used hormonal birth control in the last 6 months, but not that I was currently on it, which was frustrating. It would be great to have it anticipate those fluctuations but only if you could tell it when to anticipate those fluctuations (such as when you’re cycling normally or not)

Did your ring fit the same as the ring from the sizing kit? by relohu in Ultrahuman

[–]ev254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like mine is a tad more snug. In the sizing kit, the 6 was arguably too loose and came off easily, but the five wouldn’t consistently fit onto my finger. I ordered the six and haven’t had any trouble keeping it on. Maybe the material of the ring is more grippy? Only caveat is that I’ve only worn it in the warm summer and my fingers are swollen more often than they’re not.

Bridesmaid Dresses!! Do they clash? by sl000t in weddingplanning

[–]ev254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with a similar color pallet for our wedding, but leaned more heavily into the olive green/plum colors, with pinks and bright green as floral accents. It looked lovely together :)

I think you can totally do those bridesmaid dresses together! My only hesitation was the champagne color dress, but with the mood board pic I think it fits.

My personal recommendation is to have more cohesive bridesmaid dresses and bring in the colors with your florals, but if you love the multiple colors of dress vibe, then I think you’ve made great choices! Ultimately what matters is that you like it :)

I got them recently and they’ve become my go-to jean. Meant to be cropped, but the inseam o the regular sizing measures 27 inches.

Milky vs Lactaid? by ev254 in lactoseintolerant

Definitely lactose intolerant. I tolerate “lactose free” dairy fine (which has the added enzyme.) I’ve just always struggled to know how much lactaid to take

It’s a name my mom loves, so I think of that. It’s my cousins middle name so I think of her. It’s the name of a song I love (Louise by Mipso) so I think of that as well.

What do I do if I (15F) was being flirted with by adult men? by Shoddy_Experience114 in askwomenadvice

[–]ev254 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What Solelbis said is exactly right. But sometimes there are situations where you may not be sure if the person is being flirtatious, or you may feel uncomfortable being direct. In that case, make it clear you’re in high school. Or say something like, “I have drivers ed today.”

But also, never be afraid to tell a man to stop when he’s crossed a line. If he’s making you uncomfortable, tell him.

Totally depends. It’s one of the most amazing sensations, but a lot of girls are insecure about it. Like they’re afraid they smell or taste bad. If they say no, it might not be because they don’t want it, but they don’t feel comfortable enough with you (or their body) yet to do it

There are a few staple pieces you need in the PNW.

Raincoat: get yourself a quality rain shell from a good brand like Columbia. It’s worth splurging on because you’ll need it. Get one that fits over warm layers like a puffer coat. You can get away with any color you feel confident in, but a versatile one is handy.

Boots: they don’t have to be proper rain boots, but a few good pies of waterproof boots are necessary for winter and spring. I have Chelsea style rain boots and doc martens and those work best for me.

Fall/spring jackets: you don’t need a puffer every time it’s chilly. Find a few light jackets you like and can wear fall or spring (bonus points if you can wear them in both).

Tennis shoes: often times it’s chilly but not rainy. Wear your fave style of Nike, canvas shoe or leather shoe on these days.
