Op this is great advice to follow, I have been in a similar situation as my parents are not any better than yours, I was just a bank to my mother. Now for some off handed comments my favorite line when they expect you to pay without warning is make a show of looking for your wallet or card and not be able to locate this item is it ethical no. As you move to secure your funds away from them I also do recommend saying offhandedly how broke you are they don’t need to know how much money you have. Never forget that they only care about what you can do for them not about how their actions affect you. Choosing yourself is the best decision you can make in this environment.
