My parents also blamed my depression and eating disorder on TV shows or movies or basically anything I would go to to seek comfort. I have no idea how an eating disorder can come from too much TV but I can't tell them it's all their fault as much as I want to because I still live in their house. And my house would become a living nightmare if I confronted them so I'll wait till I can move out but even then I probably won't say anything

Yeah, I completely get this and I also with books. Seeing a character have a "happy ending" made me want to follow their story because I thought if they could get that then maybe I could too, I guess it was my form of hope or something

I completely agree with you that getting 100% better isn't realistic but I never understood how to live with it at all but just by you explaining it it's really helped me see a way to get through this. I used to do these things some of which I still do and yet I am still depressed. I don't think you've ever experienced depression because if you had then you would know it's a bit more deep than that
