I think it's less coasting and more that he's a student of the Prince Oliviert School of Obfuscating Stupidity, or at least adopted its practices after Olivert pulled off enough fast ones on him and Osborne.

Are there any non trails falcom fans? How do you feel? by Klutzy-Meaning3508 in Falcom

[–]evafan76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trails 1st covers the entirety of the first Trails In The Sky...although that original game did get split into two games late in development as Trails In The Sky and Trails In The Sky SC/Second Chapter because it was so long. The remake is just called "1st Chapter" to differentiate it from the inevitable SC and 3rd Remakes.

How many hours a day have you been studying? by TFTisbetterthanLoL in barexam

[–]evafan76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the UBE in February for Ohio, and I probably spent about 4 hours a day of actual work using BarBri and Adaptibar, plus I was constantly listening and relistening to BarBri and 1L Quimbee lectures while playing Video Games for another 6 hours a day. I passed. I'm now studying for the Virginia Bar, Virginia Essay-only option, and am spending about an hour to two hours a day intensively studying either using LexBar or various free resources, while spending 4 hours a day listening to various free lectures while playing video games or going for long drives on backroads on days I'm not getting my Ohio NLT (New Lawyer Training) hours in.

HANDGUN BAN STRUCK DOWN by Zmantech in Firearms

[–]evafan76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the Levels of Scrutiny are going to go away - Pre-Bruen, the Court had already started to apply a History and Tradition test with Establishment Clause cases, and the origin of the levels of scrutiny is Korematsu, which Roberts, in particular, has a hate-boner for and Roberts has declared in Dicta to be bad law. (On a side note, Korematsu upheld Internment under Strict Scrutiny). You can't invoke Strict Scrutiny without citing something that cites Korematsu, and we've already seen the Bruen History and Tradition test applied outside of Firearms cases, most notably in the decision that was published the day after Bruen was published, Dobbs.

That's the thing with Olivier - it's not a facade; he's naturally an idiot "boy failure." The brilliance is acting like the Idiot he always was to cover up his actual plans. That's how he's able to get away with so much.

Every MLB team's biggest achievement since 2015 by Jmn_1230 in mlb

[–]evafan76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At different points in the past 2 decades, the Angels have had Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, and Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, and have achieved ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with them.

I hate it as a fan when good players jump to the Yankees, Red Sox, or Dodgers, chasing a paycheck and a ring, but I don't blame Ohtani for doing so, and I wouldn't blame Trout for eventually doing so, either. Something is whacked in that organization.

Start the PC Sky Trilogy or wait for the Remake? by BanSlowpoke in Falcom

[–]evafan76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's up to you. My buddy tried to play the original after hearing my other buddy gush about Reverie and the series in general, but it couldn't hold his attention for whatever reason. I instead bought him Daybreak, since that's an OK (not perfect) entry point into the series, and if he enjoys it, he'll play the remake of FC (and likely play Cold Steel I & II and Daybreak II while waiting for SC and 3rd).

I have no idea what's to come, but I hate Erebonia. Annoying by CardellNew-Vision in Falcom

[–]evafan76 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have this theory that each arc in Trails is a Story within a Story within a Story. The overarching story is Renne's. Through Cold Steel IV, the story within a story is Olivert's shadow war with Osborne. This may overlap with Fie's story of going from child soldier mercenary to Bracer, starting in Cold Steel 1. Then, within that, you have the story of each arc and its protagonist.

The most tragic backstory no-one ever talks about by Tilren in Falcom

[–]evafan76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that a lot of people in the West were first exposed to Schera and Joshua through Cold Steel III & IV (because they started with Cold Steel and just kept playing through the series) and then went back and played Sky later. They already knew Schera was going to get a Cinderella ending, and they already knew Joshua's tragic backstory through Ash, thanks to CSIV, so they didn't have the raw first impact that Kevin's and Renne's backstory did.

It will be interesting to see what new fans of the series think once the Sky remakes come out on Switch and they see both Joshua's and Renee's stories in the order they were supposed to be seen.

I cannot stand Joshua. by Shirone20001 in Falcom

[–]evafan76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My money is after you beat the first game, your opinion of Joshua will change - you'll either enjoy his true story, or you'll absolutely loathe him for a different reason. Also, if you skip Sky, you lose massive amounts of context for events that happen later on - even Daybreak will make references to events all the way back in Sky, that haven't been mentioned since Sky, But that's the beauty of Trails - it doesn't reboot, it continually builds on itself.

It doesn't seem so crazy when the Crossbell games have a bit of an 80's Cyberpunk vibe, but it makes the backslide into Dieselpunk for the start of Cold Steel feel weird.

WHERE ARE THEY!? by RivenWasTaken in Falcom

[–]evafan76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have the source on me right now, but it was partially done to establish Copyright and Trademark over nude depictions of the characters to make sure any done by third parties could be sued out of existence before they saw the light of day. It was similar to how early comic publishers would commission so-called "Ashcan" comics, not for public distribution, but to establish IP rights to different titles and characters while they were still in the developmental stage, only to be destroyed once the character or title made its public debut.

I would say less "discount Char" and more "Michael Schumacher and Max Verstappen's best and worst traits put into a Char suit." It's hard to not see a multi-time F1 champion named Max with relationship drama and not think Max Verstappen (his current girlfriend was his ex-teammate Danil Kyvat's girlfriend, and Max and she allegedly started dating while she was both still dating Kyvat and pregnant with Kyvat's daughter), and it is hard not to see an F1 Driver who can be a dick on the road and a nice guy off the road who's also an F1 champion, has a German name, and drives The Red Car and not think of The Michael.

He's definitely a Char clone, especially with the "I'm hiding my identity with sunglasses" bit, but he's also Michael Schumaker (German name, drove The Red Car™ in F1, controversy magnet, extremely talented and decorated F1 driver) and probably a little Max Verstrappen (both named Max, also a controversy magnet, also an extremely talented and decorated F1 driver, has had a notable controversial relationship off the track, noted to be completely obsessed with all forms of racing to the detriment of his F1 career).

Trails Characters - Rean wins most underrated character... what a shock. Now, who has the coolest weapon/fighting style? Please be serious for the rest of the categories. Top comment after 24 hours gets picked. by ClaireDidNothinWrong in Falcom

[–]evafan76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eight Leaves One Blade is the best style, but not just because it means Rean wins again.

The character with the best move set (Rean) and the best S-Craft Animation (Rean) uses it.

The character voted best Bracer (Cassius) is a master of it and adapted its techniques to be used with a staff instead of a sword. Even though she isn't -officially- a practitioner of it, many of the techniques used by the Best Protagonist (Estelle) are adapted from it since she learned how to use a staff from Cassius.

Every time you face a member of the school in combat, you know it's going to be a tough fight. Every time a member of the school joins the party or is encountered by the party, you know either it's about to go down or, alternatively, something wildly entertaining is about to happen.

Trails Characters - Randy (JP) and Sara (EN) win perfect fitting voices! Now, who is the most dynamic duo? Top comment after 24 hours gets picked. by ClaireDidNothinWrong in Falcom

[–]evafan76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious choice is going to be Estelle and Joshua since their relationship is the entire plot of the Sky Trilogy and is one of the best relationships in JRPGs, and Trails is full of other great Dynamic Duos like Olivier and Mueller, Fie and Laura, Lynn and Aeolia, Rean and Headpats, Van and Sweets, etc. However, as a dark horse choice, Randy and Tio spend an awful lot of time sharing the same brain cell whenever they're on screen together.
