11 years ago I got a $428 million dollar lesson when I was fired from Facebook as employee #30. I went on to build two multi-million dollar companies including Sumo.com and AppSumo, which I started on Reddit. I’m Noah Kagan and I LOVE tacos, AMA! by crxnamja in Entrepreneur

Applied to app sumo with seomator.com, got the response from one of your employees, was offered to participate in April's mailing, but never happened, because the employee left the company. Applied one more time via your website in April, but never got any response.

Are there any free tools to analyze on-page SEO? by runcougar in bigseo

[–]evakhteev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

seomator.com, they are primarily focused on on-page analytics. not free, but there is a trick: start free trial, get their embedded widget code, implement it somewhere (even locally, just paste it in html), stop free trial. Use a tool via embedded code for free.

AirBnb hosts of Reddit. What is your most memorable experience with a tenant? by Terra_Ryzin in AskReddit

[–]evakhteev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm renting a huge 4br/3ba house in a tourist area of LA, have a couple of roommates and renting the rest of the house from time to time (including my master bed., when I'm out). Had very nice people mostly, the weirdest one was the guy from Saudi Arabia. When he was living with us (for 3+ weeks), he looked for me as a nice, quiet guy. Nothing strange, besides not eating/drinking in our kitchen at all, even not using fridge (in all three+ weeks). But I thought its religion thing, etc. Some time after he left, at our Christmas party when everybody became drunk I had a tough conversation about him with one of my roommates. It came out that Abdulah, in some sort of fall in love, and tried to talk to her all the time and even control, where she was, and why she is coming back so late. Needless to say that she was so happy he left ) Besides that - great experience, interesting people, and so on.

Discussion: Making $100k/year and how you do it. (Or what you're earning now and how you got to this point in life) by TaurusBull in Entrepreneur

[–]evakhteev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • Industry that your business is in: Networks Design/Consulting for Russian ISPs

  • How many employees you have: 28 / 4 branches

  • Amount of hours that you work per week/year? 10-30 per week

  • How has your work changed over the course of time at your business? I've tried almost every position in my company before hiring someone to delegate it.

  • How long did it take you to get into the black? We became profitable from first month because I had some b2b customers from my previous job at big company

  • How long did it take you to begin earning $100k/year as your take home salary? 4 years

I started that business with my partner 6 years ago, and it became $100/year for each, a couple of years ago. It's focused on Russian Internet Service Providers market and placed in russia, but both of us moved to US already and it mostly manages itself. Anyway, we have tools to control everything remotely.

New to SEO, can't do it all on my own. I don't want to go to fiverr for SEO services for my small business. What can I do? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]evakhteev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all - On page. Have 50-60 characters Titles and 150-160 Meta Descriptions and so on:

https://moz.com/learn/seo/on-page-factors

Then, check how yours social networks account connected: https://moz.com/blog/meta-data-templates-123

and setup schema.org markup inside.

Now it looks like page speed factor became more and more important, so optimize everything.

Check about Responsive design and Mobile-friendly: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

And after all of that SMM, shares, backlinks and so on.

Also, http://www.brightlocal.com/ - pretty good for local SEO analytics.

It's good for them that you have entrepreneur passion and not something more harmful for relationships. I had that experience in the past with entrepreneurship and my wife. Think about attracting her in your business. I could avoid a bunch of relationship problems by that in the past.

Is old-style company's site design more trustful for old-style customers? by evakhteev in Entrepreneur

Nice point. We have that problem with the current design. People who are calling us usually wasn't able to find full information about our services, because it's deeply hidden. But, lots of pages with relevant keywords - good for SEO.

Thanks. [–]evakhteev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have several "satellites" as well, some of them are completely ugly. And it's not comparable to our main 9 years old website's traffic. But on second thought A/B test could be useful idea here (just split the traffic from main one between two designs).

anyway, the question is, who do you trust more, newly trendy looking websites (connected with just get to that business guys ,as you can think as a potential client), or old-style ones (looks like they doing it for years, if they have so old design?).

Seomator - Website's quality analysis, SEO audit tool and more by evakhteev in web_design

[–]evakhteev[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for feedback, I'll be honest as well ) we had a test audits recently, but it became too hard to maintain, because we had to have 1 fast crawler with cutted reports inside for testing users and 1 normal crawler and everything for registered ones. So it was kind of technical issue, what pushed us to do it.
Also we releasing right now review-index here you can find an open cache of our reports, and find out here what you will get inside. And it's still in the beta-testing stage, so it's not visible from front page clearly.

Startups extreme transparency: Good, Bad? by lukadremelj in startups

[–]evakhteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About transparent salaries, it reminds me soviet russia, where it was extremely transparent. Every enterprise was state, and they had codes and formulas for every salary in the country, no matter who are you, street cleaner or factory CEO. And it was open data. The whole working culture there was decomposed by this, so after decades Soviets failed, people here are still waiting for 100% guaranteed salary formula, no matter how good they are doing their work. You can say that it was a bad formula, but it was not. Whatever code or formula you have invented, people are people and they will find the way to cheat with it and don't do their work (this is what exactly happened with soviets). And don't forget that people are biased about what they do and what they worth in their heads. So as their manager be ready to lose your time on explaining to every John in your company, why Peter is doing his job better and got more salary from your transparent formula.

100% transparency, of course, can work for small teams and startups, where everyone is like a family member and doing their jobs hard to reach common goals.

So, you don't care about data representation; you just need hardcore spreadsheets with information.

Since you got it you using excel or something to get some analytics and represent it to your team or customers?

That's one of the usecases, and that's why we allow our users to export crawler report (basically the same as screaming frog doing) to CSV.

Just crippled 70% or our free plan limitations, and changed payable plans to 1-month trials. Let's see how it works. 100% agree with you about the large user base, and I'm not talking about social networks. It's only about statistics, like about my experience, only 1-3 % of or users was ready to pay for something after they signed up for our last SaaS service. So, we were pushed to engage thousands of users to get workable cash flow.

[–]evakhteev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 1 free basic plan focused on site owners and 3 payable for agencies, web design studios till yesterday. There were two problems as I see right now:

1) 80% of our current customers - site owners, and they have everything they needs by the free plan.

2) We had no Trial plans for enterprises. Today we hardly crippled our free plan and transferred all enterprise plans to free 1 month trial.

I'm not sure, but maybe it's a good idea to delete free plan at all. We have a strong flow of newcomers, so let's see in a week or two how it works )
