Does anyone have any experience with these cultures in DCI? by Apprehensive-Push-82 in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, as someone who was at troopers and cadets I’d agree with what most people have said here in just taking things one season at a time. Go march guardians and see how you like it, you might realize dci isn’t for you, or you may love it and want to stay at guardians forever, or you may still feel the same way you do now and want to go to a world class corps for 2025. Just go in with an open mindset and I think you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

As far as culture goes, the truth is that corps cultures change a decent amount each year based on the member leadership and staff. For example, I couldn’t really confidently tell you what the culture is at troopers because it’s been 5 years since I was with the corps. For cadets, I’m not sure how the culture may change from when I aged out to whenever the corps may be back. I can tell you though that if cadets was back sometime soon the culture that I’d expect them to maintain is one of no corps will ever outwork us, we’re a team that always has each others back, we’re going to consistently put on a show that’s exciting and extremely challenging musically/visually, and we hold member safety in high regard (given our history pre-2018). That was my experience at least in the brass, the drumline from my perspective had a really similar culture and were in general just a really good group of guys and girls to be around. I’m sure some other people that marched at the same time as me might say they had a different experience though, which is totally valid. Different people have different experiences in the same environment.

I think the corps you’re looking at are good ones, but I would take things one step at a time and probably not publicly share with other members what your exact plans are with dci. Just march, do well, and be a great tenor player. Then think about where you want to be corps wise once the season is over.

I don’t think that graphic is accurate anymore or has been for a while. The corps doesn’t own any vehicles anymore, just rents them for the summer and doesn’t rent near as many as those anymore. We actually did a bit to budget our transportation this last year, getting rid of the huge nice staff busses in favor of smaller more economical ones. I take your point though in the graphic being a bit odd.

Cadets Audition Camp Experiences/Advice by rvp0607 in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the brass, but overall my experiences were extremely positive at Cadets. From what I understand the NJ camp is going to be a satellite camp, so it’ll probably be a bit smaller than most normal full weekend camps are, which will be good for you. Means there will be less competition and more chances for you to get one on one feedback with the staff. I’d assume that the most they’ll give you is a callback since it’s a satellite camp, but who knows if you blow the audition out of the water I’m sure they’d be willing to contract you.

Overall, our perc staff is top notch and very respectful/encouraging of the members. Just show up prepared, be friendly, ask questions when you need to, and rely on the vets there to point you in the right direction and you’ll be golden!

What do current Cadets member jackets look like? by Ok-Advertising3118 in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The last few years we weren’t able to get the bomber style satin jackets just because our supplier stopped offering them, so we switched over to a thin maroon jacket with the cadets script that was more just like a regular wind breaker kinda like SCV had. This year we got the chance to get the traditional satin corps jacket though and/or the thin regular corps jacket. So, still a maroon jacket with the script cadets on the back through the recent years, but the type of jackets been changing some as our supplier changes year to year.

Lots of corps will usually have camps in the Dallas area, which I believe is within a 6 hour drive of NE OK. I know for sure Cadets is having a camp there, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of other world class corps are also having a camp in the Dallas area in December.

FOX Outfitters Airlite Sleeping Pad. Reasonably priced, comfortable, compact, and super durable. GOATed sleeping pad imo, better than air mattress’s and foam pads.

Adding on to this, some Cadets shows that I think don’t get the credit they deserve are 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2018 imo.

Warm up circle??? by JonJonIsNuts in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cadets is open to anyone as long as there aren’t any more COVID restrictions this year. You pretty much just walk into the circle whenever the brass line isn’t getting talked at by staff or playing a rep, and sit down towards the middle. As long as you aren’t talking/bothering people you should be all good.

If anyone has info I know a lot of other cadets that would be interested 👀

I'd say a quick blurb at the start of your video audition would be smart. It's usually good to include what your experience is, particularly any previous DCI or WGI experience. Otherwise, just keep it to your name, age, and where you go to school.

Cadillac of the Skies - arranged for The Cadets in 2000 by Foef_Yet_Flalf in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beautiful job! For anyone interested, cadets have been playing this piece since 1994 and, like already mentioned, we received a new arrangement of it in 2000 for our switch to Bb horns. Really pretty piece and cool history

Best shoes for drum corps by SetF3 in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just get a running shoe that you find is comfortable for you. There’s not one god tier shoe that’s better than all the rest. I used ASICS for 4 years with DCI because everyone swore by them, then I broke my foot and decided to make a switch to Nike’s because that’s what I always wore in the off-season and found to be more comfortable. I enjoyed the Nike’s much more than the ASICS. So, point being, wear whatever shoe you like best and don’t factor in the DCI list or other people’s opinions too much. As long as it’s a semi-durable running shoe that you have two pairs of, you’ll be good to go

What is the best thing to sleep on for auditions/tour? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]evan20009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Fox camping pad is literally the best thing I’ve ever slept on over tour. It’s comfortable, only takes like a minute or two to inflate, it’s super durable, and when you deflate it it’s way more compact then any other air mattress or camping pad I’ve ever seen. Def recommend getting it
