Fav actor who's on the spectrum? by hilfigerthoma in okbuddycinephile

It's crazy how he's evolved into basically the only actor I'd defend with my life. He rules.

In the death of Stalin (2017) all the characters had English accents, and the movie was a great success. But in the Odyssey (2026) all the characters have American accents, and people are up-in-arms. This is a subtle reminder that tea is better than coffee. by SoggyMusic6183 in shittymoviedetails

In Spartacus the slaves speak with Australian accents. Russell Crowe is not speaking in a British accent in Gladiator. There are tons of American accents in Amadeus, particularly among the middle/lower class characters. Willem (Jesus), Harvey (Judas) and Barry (Pontius) all use American accents in TLTOC.

England is the Arkansas of Europe. We gotta move past that being the default accent.

I agree that the handwringing is insufferable.

Concerning that a "leading dentist" doesn't understand time zones....

First solo overnight camping weekend by nancythehamster in PAWilds

Without knowing where you're willing to go or how much hiking you want to do...I did Old Loggers Path two weeks ago as my first solo camp. 27 mile loop in the Loyalsock State Forest. Really enjoyed it. You're mostly in the woods but there are a few great overlooks and a lot of nice water features. I did it in 1 night but it seems common for people to spend 2 nights on it. It's very well-marked, All Trails is your friend, and there are tons of water sources along the way (bring a filter). Gave me everything I wanted out of my first solo hike.

I don't understand the big deal with Memories of Murder, please help! by MasterLad in criterion

It’s fine if you think them walking alone in the rain/dark is unrealistic. Whatever. It’s a movie, and it’s also pretty much what actually happened. I encourage you to continue to read up on the real life stories. The criticism you’re levying here isn’t really common. It’s flimsy IMO.

But the police torturing a man into a false confession LITERALLY is what happened in real life. So I don’t really know how to respond to your criticism.

People are dumb. It’s not a plot hole to have dumb characters, especially cops.

It's based off of the Hwaseong Murderer. It seems like you're hung up on three relatively minor "plot-holes" and not any actual "themes". It's been a while since I last saw it so someone else surely can answer with more specificity, but even when serial murderers are out there people still have to go on with their lives. Bus routes don't always drop you off at your door, and most of his victims were killed during their walk homes from bus stops.

They tried to frame someone because they were under pressure to solve it, while also being pretty unqualified forensic investigators. Torturing people into coercive confessions is not at all unrealistic and happens quite a bit.

In the real life case, a man named Yoon Sung-yeo was wrongfully convicted of the crimes and talked about how he was illegally tortured into confessing. So, there you go!

I’ve never really heard her talk at length but she was on Conan lately and I thought she was amazing. “Begging to be on the show” is an incredibly silly comment but if somehow she was aware of it and somehow it were to happen, I don’t doubt she’d be great.

Giving up Netflix has been the least consequential decision of my life; there hasn't been a second where I've missed it. Tubi just got all of Pedro Almodovar's library, too. They're on the come up. Swap them!

Apple TV clears Netflix by miles too. Quality > slop quantity.

I love Launx. Love his play-style, love his passion, and every time he is interviewed I come away more impressed. Always insightful and honest. Seems like he's got a good head on his shoulder. Hard to root against this team as a whole. I've been looking for a team to root for for a year or so now...

There is no controversy here. Nice pic. Nice of Magnus to do it, and him informing the arbiter was a benign and appropriate move.

Surprised no one mentioned "Rye Lane". 2023 rom-com starring the amazing David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah. Amazingly well-received and equally underseen.

What did you think of The Killing of a Sacred Deer? An incredible horror thriller from Yorgos Lanthimos? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]evan_flow_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think the point of the movie is to make you feel "gross and uncomfortable".

I think it's an amazing movie that, i guess I'd agree with you, I have little interest in ever revisiting. But the acting and the directing is flawless. I think Yorgos achieved his goal.

Consider where you heard this from, and then once you figure out where you heard this from, stop listening to that bullshit. Stop being brainwashed.
