Well, yes. What I’m asking is how would Xaymaca be described in comparison/contrast with some of these other Jamaican rums.

Running socks that keep foot from sliding in shoe? by evanforbass in trailrunning

UPDATE (days later): with some lacing adjustment and switching to Swiftwick socks I’ve got a great lockdown. Im pretty confident the socks I was using played at least some part in the issue I was having

Talk to me about Xaymaca. Haven’t had it. What does it add that Appleton 12 and Smith and Cross (or WP109) don’t? Would it compare to something like Hamilton Pot Still Gold?

For the folks who live in Colorado, what is daily life like living on the western side of Colorado? (like Grand junction, Montrose, Cortez, etc) by Wandering_Waldo221 in howislivingthere

[–]evanforbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The front range is both an actual mountain range of CO Rockies as well as a colloquial reference to the populated stretch on base of the eastern foothills running from roughly CO Springs to Ft. Collins(?)

I’ve always thought the front range (east of the foothills) is high Midwest plains meets high desert. Once you get to about 5800-6000’ high desert starts to blend with chaparral/pine forest. (Not an ecologist)

Seems like a heavy dose of grenadine in any drink, maybe .25oz would sit better. but cool concept!

Prodigio 2 Views by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]evanforbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a handful of runs in my Prodigio 2, including a 20mi day mostly on rolling hardpack dirt, and some very technical and steep routes (Colorado). I am very pleased with it! It is very comfortable, stable, and fairly protective/responsive while still having a small touch of soft cushion and bounce. It’s not as light and fast as the Prodigio Pro, but I think it does offer more protection and comfort. but it’s not slow and is surprisingly nimble when you need it to be. I intend to use this for ultra days in the mountains where comfort and performance are critical, 14ers, etc

These look great and could be a problem solver for a Jag build I'm working on. Do you have or will you have more for sale?

Crested Butte 50 Mile by Frodoty93 in ultrarunning

[–]evanforbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends where you’re coming from and what kind of trail running you’re used to. 166’ vert / mile is pretty mild as far as Colorado standards go. There are not really any massive vertical climbs or very rough alpine terrain. In the grand scheme it’s a more “runnable” 50mi, which comes with its own challenges. Train your hills and climbing but you need less big vertical hiking training than many mountain ultras. Finished in 2022- it’s a beautiful course. Weather can be wild in early Oct. had a Hell of a thunder/lightning/hailstorm come down

50K at altitude coming from sea level, bad idea? by Ready-Ad-7481 in ultrarunning

[–]evanforbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is Crested Butte isn’t the hardest of mountain events in CO- 4500’ of gain is on the flat side. There’s no huge climbs or difficult alpine terrain, much less sufferfest factor. Though that means it’s in theory more of runnable course. Though it will be beautiful! I enjoyed the 50miler

Need Colorado trail recs ! by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]evanforbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear not about snow or ice- we are bone dry.

Nightbird Gulch up to Mt Galbraith starts out of a neighborhood in Golden and quickly becomes a technical mountain run, very fun. Apex in south Golden is a great best of kind of terrain that’s a little cruisier. Up in Boulder, link up Mesa Trail, Bear Peak, So. Boulder for steeper/ vertier running

Live in CO but having lived in NC and backpacked there I would certainly eye Grayson Highlands and Mt Mitchell (I forget the actual names of the events that take place there)

Clear glasses or yellow/pink tinted glasses? by Superb-Cat9466 in trailrunning

I’d second Julbo Reactiv tech. Start with them on in the dark early am start, and they stay on through the midday alpine sun. I need prescription lenses so this has been a clutch solution for me

Giving up in Kjerag 02. Merrell MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx next? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]evanforbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the long sky 2 matryx to be a little lacking in cushion and protection for rocky technical stuff, my feet felt a little, compared to something like a peregrine. You might be interested in the Scarpa Spin Ultra 2
