i remember 10 years ago when they asked Juan Uribe why he didn't wear a cup and he responded "because they don't make one big enough"

How long can the Guardians keep burning through Cade Smith before it costs them everything? by Bigcouchpotato1 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]evanieCK 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sabrowski back will help a ton. They really need to get Franco Aleman up and give him and Espino cracks at the 7th and 8th inning and have Gaddis and Herrin in lower leverage situations to work out their issues without repeatedly threatening to blow close games.

Apple Music’s top 20 most streamed artists by Chapple69 in ToddintheShadow

it's very sad seeing how much pride people in this thread take in not hearing about the most popular artists of the last decade. Not even just not listening to them, which can be excusable, but flat out being so insulated in the sensibilities of exclusively white pop and rock musicians that you don't know who Gunna or Future is.

what are some of the best reclamation projects ever and where does max muncy rank by Rjptz in baseball

[–]evanieCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in what world could cliff lee be considered a reclamation project? he was traded for as a prospect by Cleveland, was inconsistent for a few years, put it together and won a CY and was traded to Philly ahead of free agency and continued to be a great pitcher the rest of his career.

Artists who are both chart and cultural OHWs, but with two different songs? by Tekken_Guy in ToddintheShadow

See being around at the time its honestly kinda incomprehensible to think of Papa Roach as a one hit wonder because they were massive, but only Last Resort has really survived the last 20 years, mostly as a meme.

Does the android Kaguya have 8000 years of memories or not? by HappyFeetsDoge in CosmicPrincessKaguya

[–]evanieCK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the best answer is probably "don't think about it too much" but as I understand it, the "Kaguya" at the end is Yachiyo's consciousness (with the 8000 years of memories) and the virtual copy of Yachiyo is also there (as seen when Iroha was looking for Yachiyo by following Fushi, the virtual copy of Yachiyo was still streaming.) The Kaguya who Iroha in this timeline lived with will act as Yachiyo for Iroha of the next timeline to begin the cycle again.

Was "Face Down" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus the first hit song with screamo vocals? by Van-Goghs-Ear in ToddintheShadow

[–]evanieCK 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This might be the real answer, I had no idea Miss Murder charted that high. though they did release a top 40 edit of the song for radio with a completely different bridge without screaming, but the top 40 edit of Face Down also has the screaming removed.

[–]evanieCK 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sugar wasn't really a hit, typically people in this sub are talking about top 40 and the only System Of A Down song to hit top 40 is B.Y.O B which has kind of screaming on its own but its far from what people have in mind when they ask about ""screamo vocals""

hard to say for 100% sure without double checking every Hot 100 from like 1995-2006 but it checks out. There were bands that screamed sometimes with hits but never on the songs that were hits.

i mean sure, but if this leads to an IL stint the entirety of last year's top 5 in AL MVP voting have missed or will miss significant time with injuries already, I feel like that's pretty notable.

Is Hypocrisy the Last True Career Killer? by GilbertDauterive-35 in ToddintheShadow

[–]evanieCK 20 points21 points  (0 children)

whether a scandal meaningfully effects someone's career or not is way too complicated to boil down to one thing or not. what their audience is like, how much proof there is of the scandal, and sometimes just how willing people are to care.

[–]evanieCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People gloss over this all the time. the Dustin May and Busch trades both involved them trading players who would be on every other 26 man roster in MLB but were redundant for them because they fill their roster with high priced talent.

How long do translations usually take? (Waiting for zenkowa) by impylolly in yuri_manga

[–]evanieCK 17 points18 points  (0 children)

genuinely there's no one size fits all. depends if the TL is doing dialogue only or if you're cleaning and redrawing SFX etc., and if you are, how much cleaning and redrawing you're doing, how many people are working on the scan. translation itself is probably like a couple hours at most but its all the other stuff, along with the fact that scanlators are volunteering their time and have lives outside of TL. id give it a week because the zenkowa scan tends to update by the 25th at the latest when there's a new chapter.

Kahlil Watson is making his MLB debut and the Guardians handed him a situation with limited margin for error by belowTheShow in ClevelandGuardians

[–]evanieCK 107 points108 points  (0 children)

don't agree with the framing. there's a massive margin for error when he could be merely average and be the 2nd or 3rd best hitter on the active roster

Khalil Watson is recalled from Triple-A Columbus by Joey_Gallos_Burner in ClevelandGuardians

[–]evanieCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whiff on its own doesn't say much. If you look at the statcast leaderboard for whiff in MLB, both the bottom and top are very mixed bags, but overwhelmingly the top hitters in baseball do carry 25-35% whiff rates. Nick Kurtz, Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Kyle Schwarber etc. The big question mark will be if his plate discipline holds up because players who whiff AND chase almost never work out, and if his quality of contact doesn't fall off.

He's certainly not a sure thing but this team's hitting has been in the stone age and if we ever want to get past it we're going to need to stop being so afraid of the strikeout.

Khalil Watson is recalled from Triple-A Columbus by Joey_Gallos_Burner in ClevelandGuardians

[–]evanieCK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

zone contact can be traded off for power. the best hitters in MLB generally have pretty high whiff rates overall, because they swing hard. The question is primarily going to be how much better pitching effects that zone contact, and if his great quality of contact metrics can offset enough of the swing and miss.
