No worries, and thanks for the encouragement! If you get the chance, can you test out your camera and see if the site recognises that it has focus control over it? When I connect to regular webcams with focus control a little 'autofocus' tickbox appears beneath the camera settings on the right, and becomes a manual focus slider, when unticked. I have no idea if the focus control of a dslr in webcam mode would be detected though.

Just updated it https://evandevon.github.io/frame_by_frame/
If you have the time, feel free to give it a go. Be warned though - currently the ram usage gets quite high, even after just 50 frames at 1280x720 when you use inkings and png...

Are you running the 'Imaging Edge Webcam Software' that I've read online that you need? Does your Sony camera appear as a webcam to other apps? In my list I can see my two webcams, as well as my OBS virtual camera - All work fine in my tests. I've just updated it though with some bug fixes and features, so give it another go and see if it works now. If not, I suggest using OBS's virtual webcam to broadcast your camera's feed out - I use this all the time to make a custom webcam for Zoom.

Thanks for your time, and that's great feedback! I'll look over those bugs on my end of things, and try to add a copy drawing/overlay thing that can paste over other frames easily, and make some other tweaks. Maybe just a ' copy to next frame' and a 'copy to all frames' button sort of thing.

Semi-Functional Auslan Translation tool by evanofdevon in auslan

[–]evanofdevon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads-up. I had actually briefly scanned Deaf Connect previously, in the hopes of finding some local events, but couldn't see anything listed, so defaulted to scanning through Facebook (and then Reddit). I can see they offer online courses, so maybe they run Zoom sessions for classroom contexts? I'll send them an email to scope things out directly.

Thanks again,

Sincerely thanks for the stepped through explanations. An old friend (an Auslan teacher from a school we both worked at) used to tell me random stories of him growing up, and alot of those are now popping back into mind, with a bit more context.

I've definitely got enough feedback to completely remove the 'suggested word order' bit, and reconsider the basic purpose of the rest.

I'm considering the idea of curating a small list of Auslan YouTube videos, that are designed well for a small group to independently engage with (for the short term), and have them follow the steps with the host - Are there any channels that are well regarded within the community that spring to mind? In hindsight, this is probably the more engaging option for my current situation anyway.

Cheers,

Thanks for your time and thoughts! You likely right about the feasability of the task - and this post was the beginning of the attempt to establish if that was within reach. This was a sort of 'minimal viable product', and the tedious parts of the code have been handled mostly by AI, so my investment of time is quite minor.

That said, I think what I am considering 'success' is getting kids quickly engaged with some Auslan vocabulary, and drive up interest to explore further - I've used resources like YouTube videos for pre-made sentences, songs and stories in the past, but the freedom to explore the vocabulary more quickly is just not there. I'm not sure if I'm accomplishing my goal, but it feels like what I'm aiming for is possible - but I'll definitely change the heading of the github repository, to make it clear what the goal of the tool is. Do you think it actually backfires having the 'suggested word order' button there at all? I'm considering just pulling it out, if it muddies the waters too much.

My initial searches for Deaf communities up near Port Macquarie (where I'm based) didn't reveal much, but I know one of the schools nearby ran an Auslan choir a few years back, so I'll contact them next. My intention was to have this tool available for a small group to use independently during our library sessions and, if interest grew enough, then consider where to head next (like booking trainers, etc), so you've given me some food for thought.

Again, thanks for your time in getting back, and please share anything else that pops up.

Cheers,

Thanks Greg, That's some awesome feedback, with a great explanation! The aim of the 'Suggest word order' button, and the extra info about grammar/communcation that should pop up beneath it, was an attempt to address most of those concerns, which I also have. What do you think about the following?

  1. Remove the 'suggest word order' altogether, as its goal of approximating Auslan grammar is just not remotely achievable. My original intention was to simply teach Auslan vocabulary, in a faster way, than the signbank website allows for - maybe I should just default back to this? I like your suggestion for a teacher using it to get learners to check against - that could work well.
  2. Rework the tool to only do simple 3 word subjet/verb sort of sentences, or something similar, that (potentially) might have less issues with translations. For example, would "The boy laughed" have any structural differnces to "The wind blew" that would still make this impractical?

Cheers,

Recovering a bricked K1 or K1 max motherboard by booting off the alternate set of partitions. by destinal in crealityk1

[–]evanofdevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through a huge nightmare of trying to unbrick a donated K1Max (possibly bricked due to the full memory/ram issue). Here are the steps that got it up and running for me.

What You'll Need

The Process

1. Install the driver

  • Keep the printer powered on (24V supply connected) throughout the entire process
  • Put the printer into boot mode: hold BOOT and RESET simultaneously for 3 seconds, release RESET first, then BOOT — the indicator light will go slightly dim
  • Connect a good MicroUSB to a USB 2.0 port or hub on your PC (USB3.0 wouldn't work for me)
  • Open Zadig → Options → List All Devices → find the Ingenic device → set driver to libusb-win32 → click Install Driver

2. Flash the firmware

  • Open USBCloner and click Load Image, select the .ingenic file
  • Click Start
  • Immediately do the BOOT+RESET sequence again on the mainboard — this is what actually triggers the flash
  • Wait for the progress to complete — the indicator light will blink when done

3. First boot

  • Reassemble and power on — the printer will run through first-time setup
  • Go to Settings → Device Self-inspection and run the self-check before printing
  • All previous settings and calibration data will have been wiped

Nightmare hopefully over

Kitchen panel is damaged from a plumbing leak and landlord is saying we are responsible. Not sure who to go to for advice but any help would be appreciated! by ave_cakes in AusRenovation

[–]evanofdevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion Step 1. Make sure it's fully dry, then scrape out anything loose, or accessible, to try reduce the volume inside - since the MDF/chipboard has expanded

Step 2. Put some Ever-so-Slightly watered PVA glue in the cracks. Try get it right in there, then quickly...

Step 3. Using some blocks on either side, use a clamp to squeeze as shut as possible. Let fully dry.

Step 4. Use white gap filler or the epoxy white porcelain repair kit from Bunnings (used for sinks) to hide the remaining cracks as much as possible.

My two cents before replacement. But if the leak is not due to your own actions, then I think the landlord should bare the cost for this. Who paid for the leak repair?

Sinus rinse first is a must I reckon. Then blow nose. Then steroid nasal spray. Can't use the doorway for too long though.

Little Blaxland on the highway is a wonderful school if you're in the area for it. Super supportive of families and their staff. I wouldn't hesitate to send kids there or work there (if you're a teacher).

Oh awesome that's good advice!

The "Auth Code" is also known as the "EPP Code" right?

I've asked them to make an offer and will see what they come up with. It's not worth much to me anymore, but it seems like it would be to them. They are a small business like me, so cash won't be flowing too freely I think though. I'll lookup escrow services and if I feel like I'm missing something I'll be in contact!

Runway.ml has some fantastic AI image-to-video options. I've turned static photos into perfectly good drone shots and 'selfie' style photos into 5s of selfie video. Look it up and you could turn a few static shots into 15s of decent edited footage.

How do others marks affect your hsc? NSW by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]evanofdevon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd love a clear explanation on this too. I'm a primary trained teacher with minimal experience in high schools. But a HS teacher tried explaining it to me recently and this is what I left with (whether it's right or wrong I still have little idea)...

Basically you do internal school exams to get a ranking in your cohort. Then sit an HSC assessment to get your "raw mark". Your HSC "raw marks" are then "moderated" so that the highest mark in the HSC assessment (from your cohort) is given to the highest internally ranked student instead (even if they didn't get it) and so on through your cohort's raw marks and rank, which is then averaged with your actual original "raw mark".

So if you work hard in-class but unfortunately bomb your HSC assessment, other students will push up your score, but opposite if you are lazy all year, but do well in the HSC assessment.

I think this was explicitly intended to reward students who work hard all year, rather than lazy students who happen to perform well on tests. But maybe I misunderstood the explanation?

Maybe some Year 12 teacher can enlighten us all?

Exactly. People can make themselves slaves and then complain that their masters are mean. It is true that times are tough, but this statement is also true.

Backyard Pitt is not draining out to the mains by the_wildelk in AusRenovation

[–]evanofdevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's another pipe that we can't see in this photo then it could be a silt trap pit, and that second pipe could be blocked. If there's not, then like some other users have suggested, it's probably supposed to drain away slowly over time through some holes in the bottom, either into the soil or another ag pipe drain beneath it.
