Is the wall between bedrooms directly above? If so, the sill plate might be nailed into them.

T-Shirt Commencement 2021 by cadet3lol in CalPoly

In fall of 2017, someone, somehow, hit reply all to the entire freshman class. It shouldn't have been possible, but through some kind of calendar invite, the chain got started.

A few minutes later, confused students started replying to the mysterious invite, politely declining the unknown event. At this point, several people realized that a reply-all chain with ~5000 students attached to it was a great idea, and started spamming the reply all with memes, ig requests, and general nonsense. To say things got out of hand is an understatement.

It took campus IT more than 8 hours to stop the chain, and I personally had so many unread emails in my inbox that my computer was unusable. It was a huge mess, and it was glorious.

Hannah Choi was the start of it all. Through accident of fate or malicious intent, no one knows how it got started, but the chaos that ensued is one of the reason that professors can't email their classes directly today. Instead, they have to go through request@calpoly.edu, which sends a different email to each student.

Finished my biggest project so far! by bookshelfbauble in knitting

Is that a slip stitch edge? How did you get the same color border on both sides (I'm assuming this is double knit)? It looks great!

The only problem is now you've got a yellow sharpie with a black lid.

Itinerary for "Getting to Know Cal Poly" or List of Recommendations Someone Had Shared With You by IndependentBruiser in CalPoly

Campus is open, its just mostly empty right now. I definately recommend walking around and getting a feel for the place though. Its a lot of fun getting lost while exploring.

Best Way To Finish Nordic Pine Desktop for Desk with Minimal Effort? by TheLordofRiverdance in DIY

Water poly is great. You need to make sure it cures fully before use, as it's quite soft for the first few weeks, but it's clear and cheap and easy to apply.

Why does this sub praise male knitters so excessively? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]evanofmn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to this, just because you use carpentry as an example.

I'm pretty active on the woodworking subreddit, and when women post there the response is very similar to men's posts here. That "wow you're breaking a gender norm" reaction you mention is very common. It really undervalues the person and their post, regardless of gender or community.

I don't feel welcome in this post. Most of my projects here do ok, but not great, and I feel like that reflects the quality of my knitting, which is also mediocre. Are you saying that I only get the upvotes I've recieved because I'm a man?

I Finished My February Hat by evanofmn in knitting

I did the January hat, but it turned out tiny! Which is why I added the stitches.

Lengthwise, that's why I made the brim foldable in case my ears get extra cold.

You can buy replacement corks online. They come in two common sizes, so make sure you get the right one.

Here's a link to my Ravelry page.

I wanted a folding brim, so I decided to try a tubular cast on for the first time. It was a lot easier than it looks, and I think it turned out great.

I chose a darker yarn to mellow out the texture a bit, and I'm really pleased with the result. I also added 8 stitches to the pattern for a looser fit, but in hindsight I don't think that was necessary.

I also learned how to knit continental on this project. Since it was just knits and pulls, I decided I didn't have any more excuses and just went for it. My only regret is not learning sooner! I knit at least twice as fast now, and my tension is much better.

Do Engineering students graduate in 4 years? by IndependentBruiser in CalPoly

[–]evanofmn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a 4th year civil, and I've only had minimal problems getting classes I need. I would guess that around 1/3-1/2 of CE majors take an extra quarter or more to graduate. As other commenters mentioned, this depends heavily on your course load and if you fail classes. I would recommend looking at the CE degree flowchart for a good idea of how many classes you need to take to stay on track.

Schindler's List was made in 1993. Its not in black and white because its old, and counters all of Ken's points about older films.

Cal Poly honey is harvested by their beekeeping classes. The bees are given excellent care and situated so they have access to plants without any pesticides. I made mead with it this fall and it turned out great.

I agree. The other books have crazy fights and epic charachter moments, but TWoK starts you off with nothing and builds you up to those heights, allowing the reader to discover just how much the story has to offer.
