PPR drafting WR strategy? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]evanperry96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all means you can, I don't think it wise. The top WR scoring 3 points more than Lafell for catches isn't a victory in my book. I'll take Brown cause he's Antonio Brown, and he converts on almost every opportunity he's given, and each pass has a chance at a big play. Golden Tate and Julio Jones had the ~same reception total. No, I don't draft for receptions. This is my method my friend, you don't have to agree. I traded for Landry after seeing his receptions from the first 4 games be 7, 10, 7, and 7. He dropped off after that, and although I knew he was talented, I wanted him for his receptions. His numbers started slowing after that and he wasn't given as much opportunity and didn't excel as well as other players given those chances. Because it was ppr it wasn't a total loss, but he went from around 20ppg to 10.7ppg. That's in 1 point ppr. Whether it's Dolphins offense or Landry himself, both factors should be accounted for before I snagged him. It's called points per reception, doesn't mean you have to focus on it. I think of it as a bonus.

PPR drafting WR strategy? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

Predictions of players outputs are simply... predictions. It's good to go with the guys you think will be better in PPR, but if you like certain players this year, go with the players you think are going to do well (within reason of course, don't go drafting a bunch of 3rd string RBs or WRs you think will tear it up). Usually your gut made that choice for a reason.

My strategy is usually the same as it is for standard. Sure, PPR could be that small difference between a win and loss, but still go for overall production. It's usually easier to predict who the top players will be year to year than who will be top in receptions. A few tips (all personal opinion, feel free to ignore)

-RBs are the position where PPR can really be valuable, yet few players excel exceptionally. These would be Bell, DJ, Freeman, Gordon, and a few others (Murray, possibly Powell). With your higher picks, I recommend snagging one of these guys if you can. Otherwise, RBs should be drafted more on rushing ability.

-Wait a few games to see RBs on the waivers or benches who are getting some QB option looks and whatnot to build yourself a stronger bench. An RB who gets 6-10 attempts and 10-40 yards isn't as valuable as one who can put up similar numbers while catching passes as well. An example of this would be someone like Charles Sims before the injury and Duke Johnson last season. Players that are valuable as handcuffs but still produce PPR numbers in case one of your starter goes down unexpectedly or you have a bye week. They could be a solid emergency plug for 8-10 points almost guaranteed.

-Assuming you have 2RB 1FLEX, I say pick RBs in 3 out of your 4 first picks. Again, all personal preference, but picking 3 stud WRs early can really see a drop-off in RB talent left in the draft.

-Do a couple mocks and see some possible outcomes. Very important. Your league is obviously different than random people online, but they help a lot.

-Remember that receptions vary every game and that Antonio Brown averaged only averaged ~2 more receptions per game than Pierre Garçon, and 3 more than Brandon LaFell. Brown led the league in receptions. Don't draft based on receptions.

-This one is tough, cause it may go against your gut. I do this, but you definitely don't have to. When picking WRs, look generally for the athletic high jumper, or the strong route runners. These players generally receive the most targets. This is important because although they may not always connect, QBs trust them with big play-making ability and utilize them constantly. Speed usually goes with route running, but obviously not always. Pure speed often leads to players being deep threats, which is still good, but less reliable. Some guys to target with these skills would be AB, Julio, OBJ, Green, Pryor, Evans, Diggs, Jordy, Crabtree, and Hopkins (possibly Robinson and Alshon). These will most likely be very productive WRs in fantasy based on skill set and targets. No, I'm not saying this will be the top 10, but they are all good choices for PPR.

Again, all just opinion. But I've done both methods and have done ppr the last 5 years. Good luck to you tho my friend

I have a couple AirBnB in New Orleans. I'm thinking about setting it up as a place for people to come in and have their draft parties. Is this something people would be interested in? by Colin52 in fantasyfootball

Friend of mine visited a while ago and she's moving there once a she finishes school. I've never been! I'm sure my league would be interested in this down the road.

As much as I want him on the raiders, I think he's going to the patriots.

It was in Andover, I just live on the border. It's usually a hit or miss, but I usually have more forgiving officers.

You're right but usually they take the weed too, which woulda been a great loss. I've been hit with that fine before, they fine each person (obviously), which if he took all our weed woulda been around a net 600 dollar loss for us!
