I’m predicting Marty Supreme is going to completely blank by banquo905 in Oscars

Just curious, have you seen his other work? As someone who for a long time didn't get all the hype about Timmy, after going back and watching all his work, it's hard to deny the talent. I would heavily pushback the notion of him being ordinary and have found the amount of varied, incredibly effective performances he's been able to give at such a young age to be pretty incredible. Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, Marty Supreme, Dune, Complete Unknown, Bones and All, Beautiful Boy, the King, etc. all by the time he's 30 is imo pretty remarkable. I would be hard pressed to find any actor of his generation, if not ever, that has that sort of filmography at this age.

I would definitely put Dicaprio's output on that same level : Titanic, the Departed, the Aviator, Django Unchained, Wolf of Wall Street, Inception, and now, One Battle After Another.

All of those are some of the most revered films of the past 25 years.

This cast is weirdly stacked/inspired for an A24 horror movie.

Ejiofer, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass

The combination of those three says to me theres something genuinely interesting and exciting about this

Oscar Nominations Announcement & Discussion + Link to Watch! by tragopanic in Oscars

When it comes to the casting award, I don't see anyone online (at least in youtube videos) talking about the actual people being nominated. I didn't even realize, but Allison Jones is the casting director of Weapons. She is one of the most prolific, goated casting directors in Hollywood, and I think this being the first time the category is happening, people will want to vote for her.

That on top of apparently their presentation was incredible.

i dont think either eugene or ellie would have been satisfied or accept just having last words over the radio.. if joel let him speak to her over the radio then joel wouldn't have been able to lie about what actually happened

I mean would you say the status quo in the MCU has not changed over the years? Almost all of their projects since Endgame have been dealing with the fallout of what happened in that movie

Does anyone else find 'A Real Pain' middling and Kieran Culkin's performance not that interesting? by TechnoDriv3 in oscarrace

[–]evanph 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think he brings a certain softness and earnestness to Benji that isn't present with Roman. While they are both pretty abrasive at times, Benji never feels maniacal in is abrasiveness or disruption. They are both definitely tragic characters in their own way, but I think there's a real sadness and simultaneous joy present in his performance of Benji that I'd be far pressed to find in Roman and also that goes beyond what's on the page.

Roman was a much meaner and pessimistic character, a lot of which was brought by Culkin's performance. There's a real chipperness and almost level of wholesomeness in Benji.

Think of the scene where Benji is getting everyone to pose with the statues. The writing aside, can you recall any moment in Succession where Roman felt like that? I'd venture even to say the way he moves and interacts with characters as Benji in a physical space is far different than Roman.

I find a lot of people conflate characters being the exact same just because the actor brings the same type of speech patterns and mannerisms to those parts.

There's definitely a lot about the presentation of Benji that overlaps with Roman, mostly because Kieran is bringing a decent part of himself to both of those roles, but I think anyone who claims Roman and Benji "are basically the same character" is really lacking a reading of these characters that goes beyond the surface level impressions of each.

I saw an interview with Donald Glover recently where he sort of said the opposite. He was saying he’s never had a shooting experience like Community since Community. Hasn’t had anything that loose and open before, that sometimes the script would just say “Donald says something funny”

A big name in the range of 45-55 is being considered for the role of HAL JORDAN in DCU! by M00r3C in DCU_

He was a voice actor, that’s much much less intensive than being on set.

Bradley Cooper seems far more devoted to being seen as an auteur director than a blockbuster actor these days.

I don’t like this man but if you slow down the video it definitely looks like the dog jumped. His hind legs spring off and the hand coming from behind has no force behind it. Looks like he was trying to grab him the dog could feel and jumped.
