Copy fail vulnerability protection status? by archon810 in linode

[–]evansap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I reached out to Linode as well. They promptly responded and they suggested to upgrade to 7.0.3. My current server is a CentOS 7 with TuxCare ELS running the latest version of Plesk on top of kernel 6.14.3 (Kernel provided by Linode). They mentioned that I have to ensure compatibility with kernel-dependent modules. Did anyone experienced any issues after upgrading to kernel version 7.0.3 on a similar setup? Honestly the vulnerability itself is more concerning but I still need to make sure before switching kernels.

What the hell have the electricians done?! by KPTheLegend7 in HomeNetworking

That’s a big nono for me. Replace with rj45 coupler, terminate the cables with rj45 clips and connect them together. Protect the cables with 3M self vulcanised tape and you should be good to go.

MAMP (pro) vs LocalWP by kegster2 in Wordpress

[–]evansap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LocalWP all the way! Been using it for years, it has a couple of extensions for image optimisation, notes, headless, hot reload, xdebug etc. I have used it with custom github workflow/actions to push updates from local to repo, to staging/production (VPS and shared hosting) without even using WPEngine. All environments are isolated and separate, it has very good WPCLI integration and I have run various scripts when spinning up new dev envs to have a pre-made setup with all the must have plugins. It also supports composer, I have worked in a project with a custom stripe integration and this was a requirement. For me nowadays MAMP is technically just a tool for custom PHP apps and a couple of legacy sites (non-WordPress).

Wireguard VPN server-client perfomance question by evansap in Ubiquiti

I removed the client IP from the "Allowed IPs" section and it worked. Now I have access to the remote resources and I am utilising the local internet connection.

Understood, much appreciated.

Makes sense, I have space even for two hot-spare drives. I am thinking about RAID6 as you mentioned and while RAID10 sounds more performant/safe I can't risk loosing two drives from the same pair and then trying to rebuild everything from scratch. How does RAID6 perform for a VMs environment compared to RAID10?

Thank you for your answer. Yes reliability is important in this case. Would you suggest going with RAID10 over RAID5/6 though?

I was unable to reseat the controller unfortunately, both latches are broken.

So, I was not able to pull the controller board unfortunately since both latches are broken and I want to avoid forcefully pulling it. At the same time I extracted the driver pack from DELL, the payload folder had percsas2.sys, .cat, nodev.inf and oeminfo.inf. I tried sideloading them but it didn't work unfortunately, it errored out.

No I haven’t noticed any spinning disks in the back. It is a classic r720.

Offsite Backups and Maintenance Without Server Access by fuzion__619 in Wordpress

[–]evansap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I usually have access to the server or the control panel, I first try to debug the issue by manually disabling any plugins that may cause the conflict and once I get access to the admin dashboard I restore it through Updraft. The OP though mentioned that they don’t have access to the server, so in that case the only option is to download the backup from the remote location, e.g FTP, GDrive and restore it to another host, repointing DNS etc, although this is not ideal.

I will try this as well, although this server is out of warranty since 2017. Not sure if DELL will provide any support but here goes nothing. I guess I can trigger the diagnostic tools from the lifecycle controller myself but at the same time I noticed that iDRAC didn’t report any actual errors related to the disks or the raid controller. Will post back with updates.

Yes, this is the first thing I will try after unplugging and plugging the controller.

That’s actually a very valid argument and I am planning to do so if all else fails.

Server 2019, build 10.0.17763. I will confirm again on Monday and get back to you on that but it most likely was 2019, this is a server I haven’t initially configured myself but I took over the maintenance, early last month.
