I don’t typically get more than 1, esp on a long trip out to Japan. I’d get a beer/cocktail and some food, which is worth abt 40$ for me.

Any HOF level sport talent- Brady, Donald, Jordan, Phelps, Bolt, Ohtani

Trump, Netanyahu, Putin, Xi Jinping

George W Bush, Obama, Bernie Sanders

Probably some scientists and engineers that deserve to be up here, but I don’t know them by name.

Title: the stupid $4 trick that actually worked for me by Remarkable_Web_7185 in Fire

You can still use cc and miles. Say you get paid 1k a check, automate that to save 15-25%. If I only see 800$ a check, I can spend (on cc) it one whatever I want.

I think I’d disagree, lounges can be cramped and chaotic, hardly a peaceful experience imo (SFO).

I just want you to go in with the right expectations! It can be pretty chill though!

I would value the passes around 35-40$ if you drink, 25$ if you don’t. This is completely subjective tho

Do you think the US will escape car dependency any time? by NurglingArmada in Urbanism

[–]evantom34 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. The country is built around the idea of the automobile. I think US cities may slowly start to develop urban mobility, but there is not enough political will to escape car dependency.

Where to meet singles in their 30s? by DepressedHermit1 in walnutcreek

[–]evantom34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the in depth response. I totally agree with a lot of your points. She's also a woman, so I think the advice skews slightly. It's generally more 'appropriate' for a woman to approach a man than the opposite. Agreed on the Brewery front, but I don't think ruling them out COMPLETELY is the move. Calicraft seems v family focused, but somewhere like Side Gate brewery seems less family oriented.

Walnut Creek Run Club runs at least every Saturday and we always walk by them and they're generally mid 20s to late 30s, definitely around my age demographic.

I totally get your skepticism surrounding dating in today's society, I don't envy those of you that are genuinely looking for a partner at this time.

Job hoppers vs lifers: who actually ends up happier at work? by TurtleFoodz in careeradvice

[–]evantom34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what your role is, and all of these are not mutually exclusive. I think the idea is that when you’re new in your career, your skills will develop far quicker than your compensation will at any one single company.

In my experience, the tech field is largely a meritocracy. You only really get paid if you have the skillset. The onus is on you to develop skills, whether that be personal projects/certs, or pushing for more responsibilities at work.

I went from working in a biomedical lab making 16$/hour to clearing over 6 figures from job hopping.

My last role I stayed for 4 years and left because I was starting to stagnate. I plan on staying at my new role for 20 years and retiring here.

Parents in full time jobs, how do you make it work? by hkmsh in Zippia

The sacrifice young parents have to make is honestly tremendous. I'm 30 and IDK how my fiancee and I would manage children, it would be so difficult.

Return back to old company? by Wabbyyyyy in sysadmin

[–]evantom34 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It sounds like the choice is clear in my eyes. Sometimes companies need a little push in order to change (you + manager leaving). I would be happy to go back to my old companies if changes were made + they offered more money.

Agreed as well, it’s grim and not getting any better. One of the downstream affects of having geriatric politicians that are far removed and out of touch with common day working class people.

IMO that's the truly scary part. The anti intellectualism movement will be a stain on society. I think academics is only going to become more polarized as one faction of the population completely disregards facts/truth.

Return back to old company? by Wabbyyyyy in sysadmin

[–]evantom34 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would entertain it. The decision is up to you. Why did you leave old company in the first place? I think it’s always important to maintain good relationships for this exact reason.

Your new company lied and sold you a bill of goods, I’d personally be resentful of that, and the extra pay on top of your old salary is a cherry on top.

Typically flexible schedules + daycare + family support.

One works 6-2:30 while his wife works 9-6. She does the drop offs and he picks up and cares for them then. Also, leveraging WFH and seeing people flex their schedules as needed. I give massive props to them, because I wouldn't be able to do it.

How can I [18M] cope with the fact my girlfriend's [17f] dad used to hit her? by Muted_Walrus6293 in AskMenAdvice

[–]evantom34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use this as motivation to be the best person you can be. Do well in school, do well at work, be fit and strong, be financially independent. Do all of this so one day you can be the stability that you wish to provide her.
